This is 1975 Glam Rock days (hence the clothing, nailpolish) but definitely NOT what other videos were at the time...it was groundbtreaking. At a cost of $5000 made to take their place on a Brit TV pivotal show, it changed how music would be marketed forever (MTV). All these years later, still influencing artists and bands. Lots to discover with this band.
Queen is a British rock group that was formed in 1970 consisting of: Freddie Mercury - Lead vocalist and piano Roger Taylor - Drummer and vocalist John Deacon - Bass guitar Brian May - Lead guitar and vocals Queen was one of the most influential musical groups of the 20th century. Not only were all of the 4 members of Queen skilled and talented musicians, but they were also all composers and had top ten hit singles. Bohemian Rhapsody (BoRap) was composed by Freddie Mercury. Yes, there were wings on Freddie's jumpsuit. After all, his last name is Mercury - as in messenger of the ancient gods. This video (which, BTW is considered the first music video and was the catalyst for the creation of MTV) was recorded in 1975 while Queen was still in their Glam Rock phase. Queen was a group that grew and changed to reflect changing the tastes of the public. Queen produced 15 studio albums and had numerous hit singles that were gold and platinum. You said you know of "We Are The Champions". Well, you probably also have heard, "We Will Rock You" and "Another One Bites The Dust". Queen is one of the groups where they are even better LIVE than in the studio. Take one of my favorite songs is "Somebody To Love". The studio version is wonderful but the Live version, performed in 1981 in Montreal, will blow you out of the water. Queen was talented enough that they could perform Rock, Hard Rock, Soft Rock, Thrash Rock, Progressive Rock, Rockabilly, Glam Rock, Ballads, Soul, R&B, Disco, Folk, Opera, Funk, etc. Here's a list of Queen songs you should start with: 1 . Don't Stop Me Now - ruclips.net/video/HgzGwKwLmgM/видео.html 2. The Show Must Go On - ruclips.net/video/t99KH0TR-J4/видео.html (FYI this was recorded in 1991 just months before Freddie Mercury passed from AIDS-related pneumonia.) 3. Somebody to Love (studio version) - ruclips.net/video/kijpcUv-b8M/видео.html 6. Somebody to Love (Live version) - ruclips.net/video/aA2IRoPFIn0/видео.html 7. Under Pressure - (With David Bowie) ruclips.net/video/YoDh_gHDvkk/видео.html (Yes, Vanilla Ice stole the bass riff & used it in his song Ice Ice Baby) 8. Yup, best band ever. No voice correction and they played. Period. Nothing fixing any nod the sound, even in the studio. If you hear claps they are clapping. Best ever
You couldn't be more right. This song is from a time when singers could actually *sing.* There was no auto tune to make someone seem like they have way more talent than they actually do. Freddie Mercury was not only one of the greatest singers of all time, he was one of the greatest showmen ever. He was so incredibly charismatic and the way he interacted with a crowd is unlike anything I have never seen to this day. It's like he put them in a trance. The rest of the members of Queen were also extremely talented musicians. They were not one of those bands where you could just get another guitarist or drummer. Every single one of them made significant contributions to the band's overall success. Great reaction, sir!
Wow, I love your appreciation for this! Opera, rock, the voices, the talent! I am old enough to have seen them in concert at least a dozen times and they were amazing every time. Some day you should see their Live Aid performance, it is the best rock and roll performance ever. It is about 22 minutes or so but well worth it! Thank you !
Love your reaction. I was 15 years old in UK when I heard this played for the very first time on the radio. Was taking a shower but stopped and just stood and listened to this with my jaw on the floor. Nothing really like it before (or since). Astonishing.
As a young person who has been a Queen fan for much of their life it is always hysterical to see people's reaction to listening to the transition for the first time.
Nice reaction! Queen does Bohemian Rhapsody the best because it is their song, it was written by lead singer Freddie Mercury. He is most often chosen as the best vocalist of all time, he could really sing any genre of music authentically. Queen are the 4th best selling artist of all time. Bohemian Rhapsody is a rock opera and falls under the genre of Progressive Rock. For something similar from Queen check out Innuendo - Queen.
I love Queen. Their catalog is worth driving into. Freddie Mercury ,lead singer had a degree in Graphic Arts he designed the logo for Queen. Was usually in charge of their theme outfits. Lead guitarist, Brian May has a doctorate in astrophysics, has worked with NASA and been dean of a University. He and his Dad made the guitar he plays. John Deacon has degree in electrical engineering. He created the Deaky amp for Brian May. Drummer Roger Taylor has a degree in biology and studied dentistry. All 4 members of Queen have written at least 3 top ten hits. Not only are they in the Rock n Roll hall of Fame but each one of them has been inducted into the songwriters hall of Fame. I was only 6 when this song came out.
Thank you for doing Queen, legendary band, pioneers in their music which span many genres, hope you are going to jump down Queen rabbit hole, subbed for more Queen
Queen was the first group to create a music video, from that day forward other British bands started making videos too, and American bands soon followed.
"Can you imagine being here?" I don't have to imagine because I was there, at least at one of Queen's concerts back on September 24th, 1980. It was truly amazing.
I remember vividly when this was first released in 1975, it was ground breaking, we had never seen or heard anything like it. Four very talented musicians led by the incomparable Freddie Mercury, probably the best frontman of any band ever.
I'm an old guy (68). A number of years ago bemoaming the shallowness of the current music scene I thought music was dead. Streaming really opened up things for discovery, particularly from other countries and those with small budgets. I discovered one thing that music and creativity is alive and well. It will never die. We had a great time with Queen and Freddie. Queen is timeless.
Freddy Mercury vocals, piano Brian May astrophysicist on guitar, Roger Taylor on drums and John Deacon on bass. They have a movie about them called Bohemian Rhapsody.
OMG QUEEEN 💕 Freddy Mercury is a legennnd. He was such a different individual. I grew up listening to Queen, along with Journey, Alice Cooper, and Ozzy Osborne. I absolutely loved this 😍
There is no other like Freddie Mercury (RIP). Talent and voice and ability to write music like no one else. You must see 1985 Live Aid concert where Queen stole the show. It’s a MUST!!

the operatic section is beautiful. all their voices blend so perfectly. i love the combination of rogers high notes, freddie’s middle, and brian’s low so much. they’re all so talented
WHAT A GREAT REACTION, THANK YOU for reacting to Queen & Freddie Mercury! THIS IS CREDITED WITH BEING THE FIRST-EVER MUSIC VIDEO. FYI: The a capella section at the beginning - even though it shows all 4 band members lip syncing - is actually ALL just Freddie Mercury; he recorded himself singing 5 different harmonies, then overlaid them together. (Freddie did that a lot in their studio recordings; one of the things he's known is creating complex harmonies.) It would be GREAT if you could react to a LIVE version of this song now, just to see the difference between Queen in-studio and Queen live. (This MV - even tho it looks like they're in a live performance - is actually the studio recording w a "performance" they did for the making of the video.) THE BEST LIVE VERSION on-video is probably at MONTREAL IN 1981. P.S. Freddie Mercury DID actually record an entire album of OPERA in 1987, with Spanish operatic soprano Montserrat Caballe. This was the FIRST time that singers/musicians from two different genres crossed-over to make an album together. Queen & Freddie did many MANY "firsts"... The first "thrash metal" song - "Stone Cold Crazy"; this MV - the first music video; they did the first stadium concerts and were the first western band to play behind the Iron Curtain; Michael Jackson got the idea for his one metallic glove & military look from Freddie (Fred & MJ were friends and recorded THREE songs together); when you see "Somebody To Love" live, you'll see Fred doing the first rapping. Freddie Mercury had a four-octave vocal range and has been voted Best Vocalist/Best Front Man in rock music; the lead guitarist Brian May has been voted Best Guitarist in rock music... each of the four band members is individually inducted into the Hall of Fame for writing Number 1 songs... they've done every genre of music you can think of. I really REALLY hope you'll react to MORE QUEEN & FREDDIE!
Here’s all you need to know about Queen: Four members, Freddie Mercury is the lead singer playing on the piano, Brian May is the lead guitar player, John Deacon is also a guitar player, and Roger Taylor is on drums. All very talented on their own but amazing as a group. They are widely and rightfully praised as the best rock band in history and Freddie Mercury is hailed as one of the best pure singers and performers of music history. Queen was great in studio but ten times better in live performances. You should check out these live performances and react: “Somebody To Love” from Montreal in 1981, “Love of My Life” from Wembley Stadium in 1986, and definitely what is the best event and live performance of all time, Queen’s 1985 Live Aid concert. You’ll be blown away by how awesome they are in the latter especially with Freddie Mercury having voice issues and being advised not to perform. He kills it anyway. Great reactions!
Freddie Mercury is an insane rock vocalist. But even if you strip that away, he's one of the best singers you'll ever hear. GOAT, no question. Additionally, every member of Queen could probably have led a successful band on their own. Put them all together and you get something really special.
Each of the band members were accomplished vocalists in their own right and were capable of being a lead singer. So when they add their voices to Freddie's awesome vocals it's amazing.
To create the wall of sound in the operatic chorus, they spent about 10 hrs. recording 180 overdubs on a reel-to-reel tape recorder. - 1975 technology. Freddie was working on 3 different songs & had the idea to combine them into 1 piece. A rhapsody is a musical work that is episodic but integrated featuring highly contrasting moods Freddie's has intro, ballad, opera, rock & reflective coda. He created something people still love & are fascinated by 48 yrs.later.
Many people say Queen is the GOAT. I'm one of those older people who listen to Queen on the radio, before MTV. I still listen today with 43 of my favorite Queen songs on my Playlist.
This is widely considered to be the first promo video made. This is a band that were always way ahead of their time. A rabbit hole without compare is the Queen back catalogue
My first time watching you react and you NAILED it! You picked a great song and I was impressed with your observations! You called it all from the bling, outfits, stage presence, buckets of talent and tempo/style changes! You did good, REAL GOOD! If you’re up for a challenge, find the live version of Frank Zappa - Inca Roads (A Token Of His Extreme) and definitely strap on your seat belt, it’s another wild ride!
They also play "Another one bites the dust" at sports games. And Queen was the very 1st band to create a music video. So if not for Queen there may not have been an MTV
I remember seeing this video - THIS video - in the mid-70s when it was released. This was many years before MTV and the advent of music video as an industry. This was rarely done, and when you consider the production values, very few would argue against this as one of the most important moments in rock history.
I'm old enough to remember when this came out. I was in the Navy. This was the first music video that wasn't just recorded concert clips. You spoke of opera. The Who and Elton John actually made a "Rock-Opera Movie" named Tommy. Awesome music, strange story.
their music is iconic.even if you never heard of them....you've heard their music: -we will rock you -we are the champions -under preassure -crazy little thing called love -somebody to love -another one bites the dust -who wants to live forever
Queen are Freddie Mercury (Piano and lead Vocals); Brian May (lead guitar and vocals); Roger Taylor (drums & vocals) and John Deacon (bass and some vocals). The group produced 15 albums. This is off of their 4th album: A Night At the Opera. This was recorded Analog - digital did not exist yet. Freddie was 29, Brian was 28, Roger was 26 and John was 24 the year this was recorded. This band is ICONIC and if you listen to more you will never regret it. I agree you should hear the Live 1981 version of Somebody To Love. And another good one is "White Queen" live, 1975 - at the Hammersmith Odeon.
Nice reaction 👏👏 I think the “eye wings” may have originated a bit before Freddie in 1975 :) …. Look at the Egyptians ! However, it was of its time. If you are going n the Queen discovery journey will willingly join you. First and foremost , Queen are as good live as studio …. Incredible musicians and one of worlds most amazing frontmen ever. Recommend “somebody to love” live in Montreal 1981 and then “who wants to live forever” live at Wembley 1986. Of course Queens iconic 20 minute set at the 1985 charity event “Live Aid” Just a few suggestions 👑❤️👑
Watch the Queen set (20 minutes) at the Live Aid concert in July 1985. Absolute master class in both performance and audience control. Widely regarded as the best set of the whole concert which was in put on to raise money to ease starvation in Ethiopia.
I spent my 24th B-Day at the Queen concert in Montreal Quebec after traveling cross-country over 5000 miles from Alberta to Montreal return. One of the best concerts of my life, to be sure. Sadly, then Freddie passed on my birthday exactly 10 years later in 1991.
Queen is what happens when a designer, an astrophysicist, a dentist and an electrical engineer decide to play music together.

I have three sons, I was listening to Oasis, their good, I now have loads of Oasis cd because my boys thought if the old man likes them ugh my gain love and peace
I was at Live Aid, and I used to teach at Freddie’s old polytechnic (now West Thames College) there’s a special name plaque commemorating him in the foyer 🥰
QUEEN WORKS
the show was top of the pops and queen could not make it because of their touring schedule
Queen were never Ever glam rock
The British music show you didn't seem to know was Top of the Pops
Queen is a British rock group that was formed in 1970 consisting of:
Freddie Mercury - Lead vocalist and piano
Roger Taylor - Drummer and vocalist
John Deacon - Bass guitar
Brian May - Lead guitar and vocals
Queen was one of the most influential musical groups of the 20th century.
Here's a list of Queen songs you should start with:
1 . Don't Stop Me Now - ruclips.net/video/HgzGwKwLmgM/видео.html
2. The Show Must Go On - ruclips.net/video/t99KH0TR-J4/видео.html (FYI this was recorded in 1991 just months before Freddie Mercury passed from AIDS-related pneumonia.)
3. Another One Bites the Dust - ruclips.net/video/rY0WxgSXdEE/видео.html
4. We are the Champions - ruclips.net/video/FP808MiJUcM/видео.html
5. Somebody to Love (studio version) - ruclips.net/video/kijpcUv-b8M/видео.html
6. Somebody to Love (Live version) - ruclips.net/video/aA2IRoPFIn0/видео.html
7. Under Pressure - (With David Bowie) ruclips.net/video/YoDh_gHDvkk/видео.html (Yes, Vanilla Ice stole the bass riff & used it in his song Ice Ice Baby)
8. White Queen - ruclips.net/video/f8usNj4x9NA/видео.html
9. Liar - ruclips.net/video/AdWtxjfmKC4/видео.html
10. Killer Queen - ruclips.net/video/2ZBtPf7FOoM/видео.html
Welcome to the world of Queen.
If you search RUclips you will find an entire crowd at an outdoor concert in an interval singing along to Bohemian Rhapsody. It's amazing. Please look
Thank you !
Queen at Live Aid. Best bit of music EVER.
Love your reaction. I was 15 years old in UK when I heard this played for the very first time on the radio. Was taking a shower but stopped and just stood and listened to this with my jaw on the floor. Nothing really like it before (or since). Astonishing.
Well if you were looking for a talented band, you’ve definitely found one of the GOAT!
I love watching peoples faces when the opera starts. Complete surprise and happiness
Im a Queenie im 79 years old
As a young person who has been a Queen fan for much of their life it is always hysterical to see people's reaction to listening to the transition for the first time.
"Bohemian Rhapsody is a rock opera" - FALSE
This is a Queen song. Anything else you've heard is a cover. Respect.
Thank you for doing Queen, legendary band, pioneers in their music which span many genres, hope you are going to jump down Queen rabbit hole, subbed for more Queen
Queen was the first group to create a music video, from that day forward other British bands started making videos too, and American bands soon followed.
Ur facial expressions said it all ❤️🤘
"Can you imagine being here?" I don't have to imagine because I was there, at least at one of Queen's concerts back on September 24th, 1980.
Freddie has one of the most iconic voices in music.
Freddy Mercury vocals, piano Brian May astrophysicist on guitar, Roger Taylor on drums and John Deacon on bass. They have a movie about them called Bohemian Rhapsody.
1975, I was in high school when Bohemian Rhapsody came out. Next 1981 Live Montreal “Somebody To Love”.
Yes, I'm old. And I do enjoy seeing someone young reacting to the stuff I listened to in high school.
OMG QUEEEN 💕 Freddy Mercury is a legennnd. He was such a different individual. I grew up listening to Queen, along with Journey, Alice Cooper, and Ozzy Osborne. I absolutely loved this 😍
Thanks for watching Megan!
@@YoSunnyP of course! I never expected you to do Queen. This made my day
There is no other like Freddie Mercury (RIP). Talent and voice and ability to write music like no one else. You must see 1985 Live Aid concert where Queen stole the show. It’s a MUST!!
Don;t Stop Me Now Queen I'm 72 don't wait to long.
Hahahahaha!! Right?
Seriously, the picture was awhile ago 😬
There are masterpieces and then there's Bohemian Rhapsody
Queen songs to react to:
Somebody to love, live Montreal 981
Save me, live Montreal 1981
Another one bites the dust , live Wembley 1986.
Under pressure , live Wembley 1986.
Now im here, live Wembley 1986
Queens live aid performance 1985
Just a few....
I love your incites and comments on this. It is so great that folks from a different era can still enjoy Queen. They were truly inspired.
the operatic section is beautiful. all their voices blend so perfectly. i love the combination of rogers high notes, freddie’s middle, and brian’s low so much. they’re all so talented
Greatest band ever
WHAT A GREAT REACTION, THANK YOU for reacting to Queen & Freddie Mercury!
THIS IS CREDITED WITH BEING THE FIRST-EVER MUSIC VIDEO.
FYI: The a capella section at the beginning - even though it shows all 4 band members lip syncing - is actually ALL just Freddie Mercury; he recorded himself singing 5 different harmonies, then overlaid them together. (Freddie did that a lot in their studio recordings; one of the things he's known is creating complex harmonies.)
It would be GREAT if you could react to a LIVE version of this song now, just to see the difference between Queen in-studio and Queen live. (This MV - even tho it looks like they're in a live performance - is actually the studio recording w a "performance" they did for the making of the video.)
THE BEST LIVE VERSION on-video is probably at MONTREAL IN 1981.
The next logical Queen song to review is, Somebody to Love, live in Montreal. You will be amazed at the 200 song catalogue that Queen has.
Bo Rap is Freddies their first no 1. 1975 for 9 wks
Artist now adays can't never duplicate this. Try as they might
You need to hear the live version of Queen performing "Somebody to Love" from Montreal in 1981.
Ten years later they played at the LIVE AID concert and in 20 minutes on stage, they blew the world out of the park!
Freddie Mercury, piano & lead singer, Brian May, guitar & vocals, Roger Taylor, drums & vocals, John Deacon (deaky) bass & vocals = QUEEN
Welcome to Freddie Mercury...one of the greatest of all time. 🙏 RIP
Surprise , Queen is the best Band of the world . Thanks for this little moment of Queen . Greetings from germany
From memory, I think this was one of the first music videos. Prior to this it was just singers filmed with a microphone and the band behind them.
Young man. Queen is the best Rock Band that ever lived.
😎👍
I love watching people watch/hear this video/song for the first time. GREAT reaction.
If you want fun, watch the full length version from the Live Aid concert at Wembley Stadium
You must listen to March of the Black Queen! Absolutley stunning!!
Each of the band members were accomplished vocalists in their own right and were capable of being a lead singer. So when they add their voices to Freddie's awesome vocals it's amazing.
I was lucky enough to see Queen three times in Philly back in the 70's. Some of the best shows I ever saw.
Loved your reaction my friend!
Im old so pls keep reacting to Queen. lol
Haha thanks man I appreciate you!!
Freddie king of rock 🤘 please do live aid 85 queen reaction
I was almost 20 when this song was released I had a helluva lotta fun watching this reaction!
These reactions are what keeps rock alive!
Yes more Queen ,! Liked your reaction thx
This song is from the album literally called "a night at the opera"
They also play "Another one bites the dust" at sports games. And Queen was the very 1st band to create a music video. So if not for Queen there may not have been an MTV
My 12 and 4 yr old know every word to this song!!! It’s a classic and we will never have another vocalist like mr Mercury
I remember seeing this video - THIS video - in the mid-70s when it was released. This was many years before MTV and the advent of music video as an industry. This was rarely done, and when you consider the production values, very few would argue against this as one of the most important moments in rock history.
it's a sight to watch your eyes during Freddie's vocal passages or instrumental ones
I'm old enough to remember when this came out. I was in the Navy. This was the first music video that wasn't just recorded concert clips. You spoke of opera. The Who and Elton John actually made a "Rock-Opera Movie" named Tommy. Awesome music, strange story.
My first concert ever! LEGENDS! So many iconic HITS!
Great reaction! MORE QUEEN! 👑🎸😃
their music is iconic.even if you never heard of them....you've heard their music:
-we will rock you
-we are the champions
-under preassure
-crazy little thing called love
-somebody to love
-another one bites the dust
-who wants to live forever
Another one bites the dust every one knows is theirs too! All their songs are Great!!
The best song ever
Agreed, White Queen is jaw dropping!
Jn answer to his question, "Can you imagine really being here?" Just watch the crowd of 72,000 clapping along to Radio GaGa live at Wembley.
Nice reaction 👏👏
I think the “eye wings” may have originated a bit before Freddie in 1975 :) ….
Of course Queens iconic 20 minute set at the 1985 charity event “Live Aid”
Just a few suggestions 👑❤️👑
I was using subtle "eye wings" while I was in high school in 1952.
