Sweating heavily from the afternoon heat on Thursday, May 9, 61-year-old Sandra Shepherd, sitting in her makeshift dwelling in Rosemary Lane in central Kingston, gets teary eyed as she reflects on the situation that led to her current homelessness.
Almost a year ago, Shepherd and her relatives were awakened from their sleep by the frantic shouts of a neighbour who was alerting them to a fire spreading to their home.
The fire, which she later learned was from an alleged arson attack on her neighbour’s house, eventually spread and engulfed her nine-bedroom house, leaving 18 people homeless, including seven children.
Fortunately, no lives were lost, but her family’s life was thrown into disarray.

My house was burnt down in 2019, I lost everything, I went to Ed Bartlett office in st james for help and secretary told me that she cannot give me help because I wasn't the owner of the land. I posted on Facebook, wasn't seeking help but a school friend reached out to me, now I'm a house owner built by a group of white Christians. The lot was given to me by a friend for free, I got it severe and started payment.

I really hope she gets the help she needs from this exposure. No one should have to live like this and to see her so determined and hopeful after enduring these conditions for so long says a lot about the strength of her spirit ❤

Take the title and transfer the ownership, why take the land title and dont do nothing after a year and to this day.
THAT IS A BIG RED FLAG and suspicious criminal activities to fraud this lady and family.
None of the children are sound minded to look into this and who are and is the MP and community representative.
Lady they will come put you out and say you owe land taxes and you can't present a title.
But then you hire a man to build up and give money and the man hire is a no show.

I can relate i lost everything i owned to fire in 2021 i got a house from food for the poor but im still struggling to regain what ive lost its depressing . What hurts the most is that this country dont have any real help for fire victims. Ive lost so much . I am still depressed this country fails its citizens. They need to put social workers in place so that they can contact victims like this sister weekly in crisis, and make sure that the children are in good health, and that the condition that they are living in is suitable for them. This is totally wrong and not acceptable of any government, not to look out for its people, and have houses built and waiting for victims of fire and domestic violence, and any other disasters, due to weather or earthquake . Absolutely disgusting .

Food for the poor can build something fast on her land or the PM Social Housing Program HOPE. This needs urgent attention. One year is too long. Food for the Poor always need sponsors also.

May the almighty send her help out of His sanctuary. My mother, and siblings of 7 were burnt out few years ago. Until this day they didn't get help because my mom didn't have any land for herself. I have to take in 7 family member on top of my 4 children in a very small 3 room. 4+7=11 it wasn't easy for us but God help us to manage.
