I TRIED making Midwinter minis medium - Guys magic potion
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 24 апр 2021
- Greetings miniature painting fans! In this video I attempt to create some Midwinter minis medium, or "Guys magic potion" (a paint thinning medium) using the tutorial in his video.
I recommend watching the original tutorial first before watching my attempt!
Tutorial here: • Midwinter Medium: chea...
Guys channel here: @MidwinterMinis
Midwinter Minis is probably the biggest (and one of the best!) Mini tubing channels out there at the moment so I strongly suggest you go check them out (who am I kidding, if you know me, you know Midwinter minis right?!)
I used the same ingredients as midwinter minis in his tutorial and was pleasantly surprised with the results. It really is EASY, I recommend you go try it!
You can use this stuff just like lahmian medium by the looks of things so you can save lots of money making your own.

I tried to make midwinter minis medium. you can see that midwinter minis medium uses galleria medium. Also galleria medium is not the same as midwinter minis medium However midwinter minis does use galleria medium in the midwinter minis medium. the medium is used for paint thinning, paint glazing and paint washes.
The mayonnaise is required to maintain finger energy and lubrication while painting
The lack of mayo will explain my lack of fingering energy lately! On a side note, I think you may be the most famous person to ever comment on one of my videos so I shall cherish the moment forever! 💕
If you have them or can get them, INK is a superb addition. And if you have Cyan, Yellow, Magenta (plus a white and a black) you can make literally any shade of INK. There's a tutorial on YT "168 colours" that'll show you the mix ratios
I shall look it up. have you made your own?
@@SnakeWorksStudio literally in process.
I made his recipe but with the Liquitex matte medium and flow improver. Worked great on some terrain projects to extend my paints.
@wonderboy2402 that’s what I was planning to do as well; glad to hear it works for you.
im thinking some flow improver might make it even better. good idea!
50/50 Matt Medium and Flow Improver is pretty good for contrast medium too
how did you do the dust effects in your shelves? I want a tutorial for that! ;)
Haha it takes years of patience!
Made some myself! It works a treat! BUT... I personally feel all that is needed is a SINGLE drop, or less of washing up liquid if any. In my batch while it does aid with the flow A. It makes the stuff smell of fairy liquid (this is a pro if you like that sort of thing) and B. No matter how long I leave it to sit or shake it always seems to create and dish out (pun intended) air bubbles though this MIGHT have something to do with me using a dropper bottle. This isn't s massive issue just be aware it can be a bit of a pain to get some out onto a pallete super consistently without a tiny bit of faffing.
TLDR, Less fairy liquid is more!
yeah for sure, you only need a tiny tiny amount I think.
If you happen to have actual commercial flow-aid, use that instead, no smell or bubbles but does the same job
@@jherazob keyword being IF there, definitely would be a wise investment if you wanted to make a while batch but for a one-off on the cheap or if you really don't want to fork out more than you need to it works fine
@@PossiblyAHeretic If you ever get an airbrush it's a good idea
I have completely replaced PVA glue with this when it comes to basing. I have actually not been using it consistently as a thinning medium. But I should start! Gonna try that starting today.
It works great for basing!
Been using this recipe for years based on a video by @LesterBursleyMiniatures from 11 (!!) years ago. Go check it out.
Oh man that takes me back!
Great video, my man! It seems like Guy had a great potion!
~ Wolfbrother Methos
thanks buddy! yeah its was a great potion!
Steel airsoft BBs work great to replace the ceramic balls, cheaper than army painter's and since they're steel, you can put 2 balls in there 😉
Good idea! Not seen steel bbs before
I'm gonna make some of this on payday. I have some lahmian formula and I use it really sparingly, but when I have the midwinter stuff I can use it in everything. yay.
yeah its good stuff! I find its best as a glazing medium than a thinning medium myself.
@@SnakeWorksStudio to make glazes with?
Wow it works awesome video have a wonderful day my friend 👍👍❤❤
Thank you! You too!
I found it funny the one item you did have is the only item I had to special order.
are you in the UK?
@@SnakeWorksStudio No, I'm in the U.S.
I might change my surname to Medium and then name my next kid Matt.
Boy or girl, it's doesn't matter, it's 2021.
Varnish is also an option! Matt Varnish
Made me chuckle this vid. One container of F%^/ it. 🤣
haha i've no idea what it really meant. it was an old old pot! also, Andrew Smith, Aka Darkseer??
We've got lumps of it round the back.
lumps of what???? 😬
@@SnakeWorksStudio ah, now that would be telling wouldn't it!🤣
Keep up the great work Marcel... and do some dusting!
My guy... cleaning is your friend
!
I know! but the studio has so many things in so many nooks and crannies! they get left for years :D
Instructions unclear when should I add the Mayonaisse?
NEVER
haha not sure!
Please show the results you got with this mix on miniatures. Thanks.
hopefully I can have some results soon!
I want to try this, but it seems that Galeria matte medium is out of stock all over the US. I cannot find a bottle of it for sale anywhere.
people say liquitex works well?
@@SnakeWorksStudio I mixed up some with Liquitex yesterday. I have not tried it yet though.
Any artist's matte medium will do
@@jherazob Guy definitely mentioned that he believes some is too thick for his magic juice.
I want to mix up a second bottle with flow improver instead of water and see if it makes a difference.
@@bopaintsminis Looks like it's science time!
Interesting
have you tried it?
@@SnakeWorksStudio
I have the materials but no pipet nor funnel. After work I plan on getting some to try it out.
@@SnakeWorksStudio
I have now tried it on a couple paints. It works well enough for glazing. It can also be used to thin metallics which is important since I want to start TMM. Over all it is a good recipe.
can you count my man
You noticed that huh?
F--- the potion, tell me about that Genestealer Patriarch and Magus!!! And, do some bloody dusting!
you will see more of those guys later!
@@SnakeWorksStudio I have several fan sculpt Patriarchs.
My moms maiden name is medium........
nice!
or just get Water+ from Instar
oh the instar paint guys? ive not tried their stuff. any good?
@@SnakeWorksStudio yes, I use it pretty much exclusively for thinning anything now, in fact I've pretty much moved to Instar for all non-metallic paints, there's only 15 or so colors in the range so it's a mixing system akin to Kimera, but much easier to get hold of, they have an extensive mixing chart and are staring on color matching GW colors currently
😳 ok ok....
ok?
