Top end speed is less relevant in American football than it is in other sports. Point-to-point speed in brief bursts - 2-6 seconds - is far more important. His 40 yard dash time is good, not superlative. In other metrics, designed to evaluate explosiveness, his numbers are indeed weak. He's got a great frame for a wide receiver - probably needs to pack on weight if he's going to play much at running back.
With that said, I still think he is in a good position to make the Chiefs' final roster. His route running looks quite crisp. He is exceptionally shifty in the open field. And he will be coached by a creative guy who will devise dozens of ways to use the core talents of an elite rugby player.
