@@sambingham1196He’ll get a shot on a practice squad unless he doesn’t want one. The program he’s doing allows the players who go through it to be kept on a PS without counting towards the usual limit. The minimum salary for a full season without being elevated to the main roster is $216k
I’d place more money on him still being back in Rugby Union for the 2027 World Cup in a Welsh shirt than being drafted into an NFL team.

@@fraser281Because he’s in the international pathway program he can be kept on the practice squad without counting towards the limit. He’ll get up to 3 years to learn football on a practice squad if he wants while being paid well.
@@aidansmith266 In a ay he's playing an absolute blinder. Get paid decent money for 3 years and live abroad, then come back to Rugby for the next world cup. Fair play to him!
He has nothing to lose. 22 years old and if he doesn’t make it at least he tried and he will still have a great rugby career ahead of him.
I hope he realises his dream of playing in the NFL. Even though he only really had a few years of senior rugby he more than showed he was a fantastic rugby player

Gutted to lose him but how can anyone knock a young kid from chasing his dreams? I wish him all the best but I hope eventually that he will return and il be there thankfully accepting him. People need to show him respect
I think he could fulfill a role similar to Deebo Samuel in the NFL. They can find ways to get him the ball in space either in the backfield or out wide. Get him moving in motion before the snap. He will have quite the learning curve having every phase be more exact and drawn out. I'm sure he can do it. I also wonder if he could double as a kicker or punter for a team. And if he will bring offloading to the NFL! Best of luck LRZ
This is the best case scenario for him. Finding an offensive playcaller who can make the most of his speed and skill in space. While he might be able to kick or punt, and I would guess someone will find a way to let him kick or punt on a trick play, he will likely not be better than a specialist kicker or punter and teams are very worried about losing either of those positions to injury during games, which means he will almost certainly not be asked to do that and play a down-to-down position.

Good luck to him but the NFL is a very different discipline - much greater intensity in short bursts as opposed to the constant work on positioning, defence and so on required of a top rugby winger.
He always looks far more relaxed than the others busting a gut to keep up with him, so I imagine he has gears to shift up to we have barely seen on a rugby field. All the same, it won't be easy. I hope this isn't the last we see of him.

People have to appreciate that NFL athletes are on a different physical level to Rugby players (in short bursts).
I wouldn't necessarily say athleticism. More about game experience, playing a sport they've known since they were a kid- at a high level. Also, wouldn't necessarily say they favour skill in a lot of positions, moreso a particular physical attribute.

Wasted potential to be in contention for wales greatest if not the worlds greatest back in rugby, the wru and the six nations won’t quite be the same without him. I hope this is worth all that sacrifice for him.

Like to remind everyone that the only reason LRZ wasn't 15m ahead of the defenders at 11:25 was that he just ran 100m with his shoelaces undone!
I completely understand why he's doing this - a chance he can't. miss. He is a real talent, and a shame he's going to the NFL. I doubt he'll be a wide receiver - the NFL guys will be low 10s or 10 flat 100m sprinters and he's not that quick. I don't believe the alleged 10.4 hand timing in that documentary recently (I'd like to be wrong, though!), and he's too big and not quick enough on his feet to be one of the guys (running backs?) who takes short passes from the QB. All those guys are Jason Robinson type runners these days. He might be better as a kick receiver where he can run the ball back, but he'll need to learn how to work with the blockers which, unless you've played for years, needs (I'm told) an awful lot of practice. I wish him well but wouldn't be surprised if he's back in a couple of years. Oh well.
the 10.4 was definitely horseshit (a commercial set up to make him look good while promoting a product), he's a 10.8/9 sprinter at best, but there's no way that NFL wide receivers are running anywhere near close to 10 seconds.
Tyreek Hill - who is widely acknowledged as THE fastest player in the NFL ran a FAT 6.70 for 60 metres indoors just this year. That equates to a 10.4 100 metres - 10.3 at an absolute push.
That is seriously impressive for a field sportsman. Wide receiver average would be high tens. I'd agree that either way LRZ ain't making it to the NFL....
The reason I said that is that the US has plenty of college athletes who can run 10.1/2 or lower and who get seduced to go to the NFL rather than track, albeit it is the 40 yard time which is more important. Going back a lot of years, the great Bob Hayes went to the NFL and was so quick they had to invent zonal marking (he won 100m gold in 1964). Jim Hines also went to the NFL having won gold in 1968, so the NFL will be awash with guys who are quicker.than LRZ (I'd go for 10.7 for him). In recent years Erryon Knighton nearly went to the NFL but in the professional track era he can earn enough money to live well without risking his knees being dislocated by a tackler using his body as a missile. Either way, although I wish him luck he has a really tough hill to climb.@@itsinthetreesitscoming7431
@@itsinthetreesitscoming7431There are a bunch of nfl players who run track in addition to playing football in college, and the fastest of them generally run in the low 10.4s in competition. There are some exceptions, Tyreek Hill ran a 9.98 at one point, but there are maybe a dozen players in the nfl faster than 10.4
There’s a chance he does well in the right situation, as there are some really creative offensive playcallers who will find a way to use a (relative to most wide receivers) big, very fast player who is good in space.

At NO point did he ever run 9.98 and he is the fastest active player, so there definitely are not a dozen players who run 10.4 or better.

I hope you realise how dumb your comment is. 1. Mailata came from rugby LEAGUE. Its a different sport 2. mailata and lrz are going to be going for COMPLETELY different positions. Speed isnt even that essential for JM's position. 3. Jarryd Hayne would EAT LRZ and he didnt even make a career in the nfl after his attempt (he was impressive in trials though) so yeah LRZ aint gonna dominate anything except the bench

Sorry, pace merchant who can chip and chase every now and then. I heard good things about this guy and then checked out these highlights and was pretty disappointed. no tackle busts, non-existent fend, no-big ankle breaking step. hes quick as hell ill give him that but a lot more skillful players than him have gone to nfl and not made it. he aint doin shit. also dont call rugby "ball" its embarrassing
