Sauron as Annatar. that reveal. the look. the delusion. the fact that poor Celebrimbor will one day ....... siiigh. like, knowing where it all sets up and seeing this process come to life is BEAUTIFUL. i love it.
In case it isn't clear - Khazad-dûm is Moria, where the dwarves digged too greedily and too deep (or will dig, hence the balrog last season). And yes the shiny stuff is what the Gates of Moria are made of, one of the "sand-patterns" in the intro is an outline of the gates. Gondor doesn't exist yet, since it will be founded by Isildur. On the other hand the Grey Havens, where the only elf who has to shave lives, is the same place where Frodo boards the ship at the end of RotK.
I think it has to be Saruman. It would be the best for this story, to watch Saruman be the pure noble good hero he was for Millenia, before Sauron terrified him into turning away from the will of the Valar.
I am a simple gal I am 100% watching Rings of Power only to watch Halbrand/Annatar/Sauron be a messy, messy b*tch, manipulating left and right, and so far he does not disappoint. The flair. The drama. The pizzazz!
Gondor hasn't been made yet, Adam. Wait until... Season 4. My guess is Season 4. They go to Erebor in The Hobbit, "The Lonely Mountain." Erebor begins as a colony of the dwarves of Khazad-dum. We primarily know Khazad-dum by the name it's given later by the elves, after Certain Things Come to Pass: "Moria." You're correct, Adam! Ithildin - which Celebrimbor just created here - is, in fact, what the Doors of Durin, into Khazad-dum/Moria, will be made from. Celebrimbor is the grandson of Feanor, the greatest of elven-crafstmen to ever live. Feanor created three jewels, called The Silmarils, which contained the light of the Two Trees of Valinor - pure and untainted - before Morgoth destroyed the trees, and then stole the jewels. Swearing vengeance, Feanor led the elves from Valinor to Middle-Earth in pursuit of Morgoth, and began centuries of war and destruction that killed thousands beyond count, and broke the very fabric of the world itself before Morgoth was finally defeated, and the Silmarils were all lost to the living. All of his very long life, Celebrimbor has felt a powerful need to live up to the legacy of his grandfather as a creative: a desire to create something as powerful and as important as the Silmarils, whose beauty moved Morgoth to destruction and theft, sent the elves to war, and caused the ruin of a third of the world. Sauron knew Feanor - and looked upon the Silmarils with his own eyes. He knows the exact buttons to push and levers to pull to manipulate Celebrimbor: and to tell him that he, Celebrimbor, out of all of the elves in Middle-Earth, is being trusted by the Valar to save the world with his creations... That's the perfect way to make sure Celebrimbor's going to be his best friend.
Sometimes people overthink themselves into missing really simple things…a volcano larger than Vesuvius just erupted and decimated the entire Southlands. That is surely going to cause tremors and earthquakes across the map. And that’s exactly what the map showed us 😊.
Gondor 'sort of' exists. Osgiliath and Minas Tirith are yet to be founded but Pelargir and a handful of other port cities already exist and are already controlled by 'The Faithful'. They haven't unified yet and they aren't called Gondor yet but the building blocks are kind of already in place for Elendil to lead the faithful away from Numenor.

17:30 This is probably my biggest issue with the show. It doesn't do a great job of feeling like a lot of time has passed between episodes or scenes. I get what they were trying to go for, but it didn't land. Everything right after it though: Superb.
Actually we do have dialogue from the season finale, indicating that the time from which they start building to the when they plan to be able to create is three weeks time. We also know that they fail at least twice in their attempts with the attempts causing damage that has to be repaired. to start anew. They could have failed more than twice, but the dialogue after the failure we see, is " This time it should worked". Meaning multiple attempts. They then switch it up. It is here that when Galadriel is presented into about Hilbrand's claim being false. So at the bare minimum they have been working together for 3 weeks. Again bare minimum. So they show in this situation actual gives us dialogue indicating they have worked together for weeks if not months at the very least. Now there are other examples were they absolutely don't do this. This situation is just one that they actually do.
People got to nitpick when they hear bad things about a show based on other people's opinions so they go along to get along with them even when they feel differently about it

Given that you are not book readers and are going by Jackson's movies (and also reading in some D&D stuff?), it is difficult to know if you'd really appreciate some detailed explanations. Amazon bought the TV/streaming rights to the LOTR books including the appendices. So the show could use "Gandalf" if they wanted, but for some reason the show runners want to keep the Istari nameless for now.
