Thanks again. In your Feb 26 2023 video you went to 2nd at T6 and 1st for the corkscrew. This video you stayed 3rd at T6 and 2nd at the corkscrew. You find this now faster?

The baseline setup got adjusted since the previous video released, that's why both laps aren't fully comparable.
However, the old solution of using the 2nd gear in T6 is still viable, it's also roughly tenth quicker if you force the downshift early and use the engine brake to decelerate.
1st for the corkscrew is also still viable in the braking zone, but I stayed in 2nd because I wanted to make use of the downhill slope. If you're in 1st while driving into it your engine will hold you back and you will lose some momentum compared to staying in 2nd gear. The ideal solution would be to shift into 1st while braking but quickly shift up before you engage the throttle again, although I haven't tested it and don't know how viable it is.
We also already had a bigger chat on Discord about it.
Overall I think the gears used at those spots are about one and a half tenths slower (each), but they are safer which makes it easier to be more consistent.
I'll probably revisit this track for next season and give it another go. I found it really difficult to find a good balance between hitting a clean line and pushing the car to the very limit.

I just tried iracing and this track for the first time 3 days ago. On my first day I must have done 20 laps or more and could not break 139.5 not matter what I did. I am brand new to racing so I know I have a lot to learn. Last night I couldn't break 141! LOL it seems the more I try the slower I get. I think I'm hitting the corners ok and it must be my shifting that is slowing me down. My buddy said using paddle shifters with this car could also be the issue, but I don't understand that. Slowly figuring this stuff out. Thank you for the video.

      Welcome to iRacing!
It's hard to give specific feedback when I can't see your lap. We've a channel on the community Discord where you can post a replay/recording to receive feedback and tips. It sounds like you're overdriving the car, but again, it's hard to tell from words alone.
It doesn't matter which shifters you have. The car has paddle shifters and a sequential gearbox in iRacing like in real life. You're completely fine, I'm using paddle shifters myself.
This is one of the hardest tracks you start on, and many drivers know it and/or the car for several years. Even after thousands of laps you can still find a few tenths around here, so don't be too hard on yourself! =)

great track and a great lap guide! I already started with practice yesterday, but I already know this track from several other racing games and also from motogp 15 years ago. a legendary track!

I love Laguna - Have raced it a ton throughout Forza and other games over the years so I am really looking forward to finally doing it in iRacing. Thanks for the guide!
