I love Skechers Go Walk shoes. I walked all over Tuscany in these shoes even in wet weather, and on slanted marble steps in the leaning tower of Pisa and never slipped. They dry reasonably quickly if they get wet, and you can wear them with or without socks. They are light and pack well.

Laurie - can you (or if you already have) present a video for exactly how the airport process should go? From arrival to the airport through getting on the plane, what should happen in order. I know you’ve discussed TSA check in process.
But those of us who rarely fly (and will be solo) this would alleviate some stress…
Thank you for considering my request:)

Keen also makes wonderful waterproof hiking shoes. I find the keens fit my foot better than Merrell. It kept my feet dry in down pours in Alaska. I completely agree with the water proof over pants.

I'm a dog walker and for the past three years, I would walk through at least one pair of Tivas each summer and then buy a new pair. I have had better luck with Kuru Tread sandals. They have great arch support, are very comfortable and have lasted well. I will buy more as more colors come out, but I haven't worn out either of the two pair that I bought this year.

Teva tirra are my favorite go to sandal! They were recommended by a shoe specialist for my feet specifically when we were going on a cruise and would be doing lots of walking on cobblestones. My feet did not hurt at all in the evening. I have been wearing them ever since. Algeria shoes and sandals are very supportive and they have the rocking kind where it decreases fatigue with walking. The one problem is the flat bottom does not accommodate well for walking on uneven surfaces. They are a great shoe if you’re going to be in the city and do a lot of walking on sidewalks. Laurie, your recommendations are so important. One year we went on a cruise and I brought soft comfortable shoes with. My feet killed by the end of the day, and I actually had to put my feet on ice. Firm and supportive is so important!

Laurie, your videos are always SO helpful! My favorite brand for travel is Merrell. Their sandals (and a pair of Cariuma tennis shoes) got me through our Mediterranean cruise last summer, including LOTS of walking! I plan to get a pair of waterproof hiking shoes for Iceland next summer, and they will likely be Merrell as well.

Last year I went on a Christmas Market Rhine River cruise. We had lots of walking with the tour guide in each city or town and I wore Dansko waterproof shoes (not boots). There was plenty of snow and rain and cobblestones. I was very comfortable and with good wool socks I was warm as well. I wear them at home for my daily walks in the winter. We don’t have snow here but it’s wet often.

I loved Tevas and Keens back when I could wear them, though the Keen midhikers that I had didn't have enough ankle support for me (I need my hiking boots to go up all the way past my ankles, and those ones didn't) - there were 2 summer trips (2 1/2 weeks each) where I brought only my black Tevas (no other shoes at all) and they were enough for everything from hosing down the driveway to singing at a funeral. For the last 13 months, though, I haven't been able to wear anything with any drop from heel to toe for very long except in deep snow where the heel will sink in enough to counteract that slope (on other surfaces it throws me forward and kills my back because I'm constantly fighting against falling forward), so now Xeros are my go-to - sandals, sneakers, dress shoes (the dress shoes with compression socks, my feet were still perfectly fine at the end of my friends' wedding reception, even though I'd been wearing them literally all day, on my feet for most of the day and a fair bit of dancing at the reception - all the other bridesmaids, their feet were killing them in their fancy shoes by the end of the wedding itself), hiking boots - and I pair them with the 6mm thick NorthSoles: the hiking boots with NorthSoles got me through an entire week of camp walking around everywhere and my feet never hurt. If Altra had a truly waterproof zero-drop pair, I'd go for those as work boots because the sole is significantly thicker, stiffer, and more cushioned than the Xeros (the thin flexible sole of the Xeros isn't a problem when walking around, but it is a bit when riding due to the pressure points from the stirrups), but the NorthSoles help significantly.

Merrell Jungle Macs! Very versatile shoe and super comfortable! I wear them most of the winter in Michigan and they keep my feet dry. I have some Merrell low heel clogs that I wore to Australia. I even wore them to hike up the remains of an extinct volcano. I never really needed another shoe. OOFOS has a slide sandal that I also used in Australia. It was so comfortable and I used it as my shower slippers, house shoe, sandals etc. Because I had the black slides, I could also dress them up and bonus: they weigh virtually nothing and take up very little space in a carry-on!

I bought the Ecco booties in black for my upcoming Alaska cruise (first vacation in 5+ years) based on your review and have been wearing them in the house for about a month - they are awesome. I also have water resistant hiking boots for off ship excursions. I raved so much about the shoes my husband ordered a pair to use for work - the men shoes look nice against dress paints as well as casual but give him the support he needs - he stands and walks a lot. We are attempting to travel with 2 under seat backpacks, 1 22 in carry on and then checking 1 bag. I hope to split our stuff up so in the event that the checked bag is delayed or does not make it we have most of what we need. Wish us luck!

I recently returned from Scotland, loved it. I took a pair of Vessi pair of waterproof booties and a pair of Zero shoes that I waterproofed with Merrel waterproof and anti staining spray. Feet stayed dry in both pairs of shoes. Tread on both was really good. I would not recommend Zero shoes to pack on a trip if you are not used to barefoot shoes. I love barefoot shoes and have worn them over the past 5 years, but they take time to get used to. The Zero shoes I wore for several days in a row, which is unusual for me. The other pair of shoes I packed were flat dress shoes by All Birds, also very comfortable and light to pack. For most of my trip we were to dress for dinner, so I needed a dress shoe.

Laurie, I really like your content. I want recommend the Taos Z Soul shoe. I have several problems with my feet and I recently traveled for 2 weeks in Europe. I wore the Taos about 2/3 of the time and my ECCO Soft 7 the rest of the time. They are perfect for going through security because you don't have to untie the laces. There is a side zipper!! Also I could walk in them for hours and never got a blister or sore spot. The ECCO are also very comfortable but I got a blister from my sweaty socks rubbling against the leather insole.
The Taos are canvas so not waterproof, just water repellant.

I’m so envious of people who can wear sneakers all day! (LoL. I take my sneaks off as soon as I finish teaching my fitness classes or finish my run)
My feet have a wide toe/ball area, with a high instep AND high arches (although I don’t need much arch support because my feet are super flexy through each stride). Add to that, I need a VERY flexible sole otherwise my heels constantly slide up and down the back of the shoe. I can’t tie my shoes too tightly otherwise my toes get numb from the pressure on the top of my foot (due to dancer’s breaks). I sure miss old school high top Reeboks which were based on dancers’ feet.
The search for the perfect “walking on European streets” continues!!!
I’m always open to suggestions! My podiatrist and sports med Drs get a kick out me bringing shoes in for us to evaluate. 🤣😂🤣

My Sister in law is a Keen dealer. they are the shoes my wife will wear now that she's out of the boot for her foot surgery. Keen has short and tall shoe styles, and sandals. my sandals are over a decade old, as are my black Red Wing work shoes. (the dog we used to have destroyed the Bass shoes she bought for me and I had a very hard time scolding her for getting rid of those horrible shoes - then I rushed out and bought the red wings before she could buy me more cheap shoes) my usual travel shoes are the red wings and my black sandals. Keens are also fully submersible, and the shoes keep water out as long as you don't overtop them. (I wear the sandals if it is going to be wet and not too cold, because then I can just towel off my feet and put on dry socks and shoes)

I love Merrell's Moabs, but Ive had the waterproof versions before and they are NOT worth it unless you're in snow a lot. If you need an actual waterproof boot, the Moab is NOT it. My Merrell Moab waterproof boots got about a pound heavier after every hike in the woods in the PNW where I live, you can't walk through a creek without them holding all the water. You have to dry them upside down in a boot dryer after they get soaked like that.
Either get a rubber boot, a full leather boot, or a jungle combat boot if you're actually mucking around in the yuck.
I do still enjoy the Moabs, and stick with the non-waterproof ones. They still have a water resistant upper and a great vibram sole.
