Of you suffer from plantar fasciitis, don’t wear ballet flats or super flat shoes. (I actually got PF from wearing (cushioned) ballet flats walking around campus (work).) I need a thick sole and/or a slightly elevated heel, or it comes right back.
Dansko Mary Janes, most comfortable, cushiony shoes in years for me. They have a one inch wedge heel, very supportive. No break in period! Leather, good quality, $140 price, and I didn't buy them on sale.
I’ve had chronic plantar fasciitis for 23 years & could never wear flats since I was young. Try the foam Birkenstock slide knockoffs or the real thing. They are the most supportive shoes I’ve ever worn. My doctor told me the best shoe for me would be something akin to a roller skate 🛼 (Granny boot) without the wheels. I was always better off in a heel. The Birkenstock knock-off is the only shoe, flat or otherwise I can wear without an orthotic.
I wore Ferragamo shoes for more than 50 years and I believe my heel problem is due to their poor insoles and lack of arch support . Most designer shoes have the same problem.
I don’t care for ballet flats. Never have. My back actually feels better with a heel! Also, it’s not uncommon at all for our feet to get a bit wider and/or a bit longer!
I bought some of these vivaia shoes and I think they are ridiculously over priced. I didn't find them to be very comfortable and they were really low around the heel so I walked out of them. Just some additional information about them.
I agree that Vivaias are overrated and do not live to their hype. I do not feel any arch support, and they are still on the narrow side. I had to change into leather shoes within 30 minutes of an event. The ballet flats are so low that I felt like Cinderella at midnight when I wore them. I swear three-inch heels from Inez or Ally NYC are more comfortable than Vivaia flats or low heels.
I’m interested to hear this. I was suspicious because they’re so overhyped by social media influencers. If they were really good they wouldn’t need this saturated advertising; not to mention the synthetic material frightens me as someone with sensitive skin. They’re also rather ugly and cheap looking IMHO.
I love Mary janes. I feel like I can spring in them if I need to. I like kitten heel fine, but mules and sling backs aren't for me. I run around too much.
I think most podiatrists would caution against ballet flats. They usually have no support and will cause long lasting issues for many women 😢, especially if you can fold them in half
Put some orthotics in them. I don't have them now, but I can't wait to get them. Back before I retired I had the most wonderful orthotics that changed my life, because my feet are flat as pancakes, and long and skinny and I can't find shoes to fit. Orthotics make shoes fit me, hallelujah.

He is absolutely right 👍 My doctor told me the same thing about ballerina shoes and all flat shoes. The worst one is those "Tong" a they are terrible for callus, etc. Maybe they are good at the beach but that's all.
@@Christina-ov4lt the support for spine and bones is called muscles. Yes, they make some spots on the sole hard and thicker, but that's just your feet getting used to the pressure. People back in time (like 500 years ago) walked hundreds of miles a week in wood shoes or flat sandals or flat leather shoes. We're not meant to walk in soft or super ergonomic shoes.
I'm learning over the past few days about the need for working with releasing the fascia in the body -- starting with the feet. The feet are our foundation, and whatever's going on in the feet has a ripple effect all the way up the body. If you're pinching your toes due to uncomfortable shoes, what does that do to the rest of the body? Going barefoot seems like the best idea, for most of the time -- otherwise wear "barefoot" sneakers. What's more elegant: plastic things on the feet that make us pinched and physically ill, or comfortable shoes that let our toes have some space between so that we can relax, breathe and flow inside our bodies?
I went to a doctor once who specialized in sports medicine. He actually got mad at me for wearing ballet flats. He said it was stupid to wear those shoes... no support at all. (I thought high heels were the stupid shoes to be wearing. Hmm...) BTW, they were Clarks with a little bit of support built into the insole. I do think he was right. I'm 61 now. I have to wear wide toed trainers for life, with a good arch and a slight heel. My feet hurt every day, at least a little bit.
I hope you find shoes that help you even more . I'm sure , like many other health issues , that some foot issues may be hereditary . My husband's family was very poor so as children , they only had cheap , poor fitting shoes ; as a result , they all have various foot ( and back ) issues . Also , a friend who wore high heels daily for work also had extremely serious foot problems by retirement age . Heredity coupled w/ bad habits ... 🥰
yes I believe he was right too. I had a knee surgery and have to wear flat comfy shoes; sneakers and loafers with like 1 inch heels are the ones I go for. Ballet flats have too thin soles and no support for the arch, which I find hurt my knees.
… 90+ percent of our foot problems are caused by our shoes. Going bare feet is the best thing for you. You do not need shoes to support your feet. The feet should support themselves. Personally, I think we weaken the two arches of our feet by wearing shoes that support them.
Honestly when I started wearing Birkenstocks in summer my feet went up half a size. I don’t believe it’s a bad thing at all as it seems to me that the less restrictive the shoe, the better. I also wear other shoe styles but I mainly go for flat shoes and I don’t feel I need any extra support as long as I do the strength training necessary to get enough back support. Your hair looks amazing by the way!
I respect you, Frédérique, but sorry! Vivaias don’t work on my feet. I have a pair of ballet flats and a pair on block heels. I don’t feel arch support in either. Even with my orthotics, they are still uncomfortable. I wear them only if I go to church, an event, or dinner on a rainy day.
It’s not only you, Frédérique. I know that being home all the time for the better part of two years (thank, pandemic) and not wearing shoes made my already wide feet wider. Where I used to be about a C width, I’m now probably closer to a D width. When I was a kid and would go shopping with my mom (in the 70s), we’d really have to hunt for shoes because having women’s shoes come in widths was a real rarity. When she was browsing and a salesperson would ask her if she wanted to try a pair she was admiring, she’d often say, “Bring me the box. It’ll probably fit better.” The youngsters usually didn’t get it, but the experienced shoe fitters would chuckle and agree with her that stylish shoes really only fit with “model” feet.
I absolutely ADORE Vivaia shoes! I have four pairs, and when I look to buy shoes, that is go-to store. They’re stylish, easy to care for, and comfortable. I like that they’re eco-friendly and, for the vegans, cruelty free. I’m impressed that they’re breathable. I usually don’t like wearing shoes made of man-made materials because they don’t breathe, and the side effect of that is stinky feet. I don’t have that problem with their shoes. You’re not “feeling” things, Frédérique. As we get older, our feet get bigger. I used to be able to wear a size 39 shoe comfortably, and now they’re too small (even though I’m slimmer than I was 2 years ago), and I have to wear a size 40 shoe.

I have a very high arch and instep and I found out that is why I cannot walk in ballet flats or the open back loafer type of shoe. I understand it’s hilarious to watch me try to walk, from my side it’s exhausting to try to walk.
My feet have a habit of sliding forward in heels, squishing my toes. Worn all day and my toes really hurt! Tried the inserts supposedly designed to prevent this- feet still slide. So I stick with flats. I put in inserts with arches and I am grateful at the end of the day!

Why are the shoes recommended all crossed out on the front page? I watched thinking these shoes were not recommended but they were. I don’t understand. Also flat shoes are not particularly comfortable for me. I don’t think they do short women any favours. I need an extra inch or two to look better in my clothes and elongate my legs.

I am sorry… I tried to like the Vivias shoes . They are impossible… no , they do not stretch at all. Very painful on my bunion. Not only that , they chafe on the heel and gave me blisters. One of the worst purchases I ever made.
This video is just a glorified commercial. Elsewhere, she advises pointy shoes for petite women. Sure, pointy shoes. So that you can be short and also now have bunions. Excellent advice.
Sorry to disappoint you but all flat shoes are terrible for feet. My doctor told me also that, walking in the house with nothing on your foot (bare foot) is a very bad habit. All the expert on this matter will tell you. Ladies should wear heel of 3 inches max. Sometimes, they can wear heel higher than that just for few hours. I suffered of bunions and my foot specialist (surgeon) told me the same thing. Now, I haven't no bunions anymore and take serious care of my foot all the time. Hope my explanation is well done because I am a French lady.
Ha ha! Your doctor is selling you a bridge! That is absolutely absurd! Human bodies are designed to balance correctly and with graceful strength on bare feet!

Ballet flats being (ironically) the main example. What would you suggest?

I live in Birkenstocks, all year round. I have long, skinny, flat feet, with Ehler's Danlos. Ballet flats? not for me. I look horrible in them, even though I studied ballet for years. I need orthotics, which help my skinny feet fit into normal shoes. You know, when I was very, very young, they made narrow shoes. But they stopped. I don't know why, but it's been horrible for those of us with super narrow heels and long skinny feet. They are longer and skinnier because they are flat, and spread out longer when you step down. My feet would be a 7 1/2 or 8 if they weren't flat, but since they are flat, they are a 9 narrow. Try finding a narrow of ANY shoe anymore. They don't exist.
You didn't mention how are their sizes running? Small, big, true to the size? I wear 9,5 in sandals, and 10 in sneakers. What do I buy in ballet flats?

@@patti1044 Agree. It's like they are so cute and the look is everything! But the lack of support means I can't walk in them without pain. The search continues for a pointy toe flat, cute and comfy dressy shoe!
I do still want some red mary janes though I have a bright red and a marroon colour pair with a heel and three straps on my wishlist maybe after xmas ❤
Got the worst PF from wearing Adidas sneakers! I do best in heals that arent too high
I agree with other comments that flats don't suit everyone, i need some hight not hugh but some otherwise i just look stocky..also the mary Jane shoes be they flat ot higher to me look bad, they are little girls shoes..
Frederique love your video. Great looking shoes. My favorites are ballet flats and loafers, but sneakers are the most comfortable.
Totally agree!
Pointed shoes are modern day foot binding
Depends on the design; some can be comfortable
@@S0ngsyngr some foot binding can be comfortable...
😂😂😂😂
The older I’ve gotten, the bigger I think my feet are getting.🤣
Hello, your glasses are amazing. Do you mind sharing where you got them? They are literal perfection. Thank you. Love your videos.
I was thinking they’re Burberry, b/c they looked exactly like my new pair…
Thank you Frederique for your lovely ideas❤❤❤
As you live in Bali now. Go to Mata Hari . There is a shop that sells these shoes for a fraction of the price.. extremely long wearing and comfortable.
Frédérique: Check your sound you are over modulating.
Appreciate you for making this video! Can you make a video when you have time about elegant boots and ankle boots? Love and light 🤍✨️🌺
Great ideas
Bonjour, Frederique. I absolutely loved this episode. All those shoes you recommended were lovely.
Ballet flats are uncomfortable and so unflattering, unless you are a very tall ,slim person.
I am a fan of ballet flats, Butterflies are my favourite 🥰
Please, check your volume levels. I can’t listen to this. I would like to though
I totally love your videos but the audio is not good.
Why is it classy to wear shoes that aren't foot shaped? Like seriously whats wrong with us?
I have broad feet & bunions 😅 what a combination... thank for this really practical video
I can’t bring myself to wear ballet shoes…
All flat shoes should have arch support, otherwise they’re not good for the feet
Some medium to low heels are also convenient for events and more formal dressing.
Mmmuuuuwaaaa!!!😘❤❤❤
I love, love, LOVE YOU!!! Seeing that you've posted something new always makes me🎉😍
Can you do videos for women who are busty?
I love the look of flats but, doctor’s order, I shouldn’t wear shoes that are less than 3 cm high.
Love your videos. So helpful!
I'm so glad!
Can you do a video on hairstyles? You have a super trendy bob. Looks fantastic on you! ❤
I am short so flats don't flatter me. I want a platform shoes that adds height but I want the comfortable ones.
especially for winter
Ballet flats have NO support for your feet.
Ballet flats are hard on back to low in heel Ferragamo vara are my go to .
I am sorry… I tried to like the Vivias shoes . They are impossible… no , they do not stretch at all. Very painful on my bunion. Not only that , they chafe on the heel and gave me blisters. One of the worst purchases I ever made.
I agree. Vivaia shoes were terrible for my feet. They gave me blisters. Much prefer Rothy’s.
If you’d bought the correct size you wouldn’t have problems. Buy the size you actually are, not the size you want to be. Same with clothes.
This video is just a glorified commercial. Elsewhere, she advises pointy shoes for petite women. Sure, pointy shoes. So that you can be short and also now have bunions. Excellent advice.
@@jakevendrotti1496 The other videos on petite dressing say pointed toes also
Sorry to disappoint you but all flat shoes are terrible for feet.
Think your doctors advice is suspect.🧐
Ha ha! Your doctor is selling you a bridge! That is absolutely absurd! Human bodies are designed to balance correctly and with graceful strength on bare feet!
@@redredlulu1 Oh no, he is a great specialist for the feet. 🙂
@@itsgettingold No, he is not "selling me a bridge". Sorry to disappoint you. He is a very competent MD. Stop believing all the things your hear and especially myth concerning feet. Life is more comfortable this way 🌞
@@ClaraSunshineI have bunions and had to get surgery on my left one. My doctor told me flat shoes were ok ONLY if I also wear an insert that was made for my foot with them. He also said to not walk barefoot. To always have my arch supported. Listen to your doctor as long as it’s working for you. All feet are unique and have different issues so there is no one solution to cover everyone.
Whenever I wear ballet flats, I feel like my feat are too tall, where the shoe folds up, it hurts the top of my foot. I like them, maybe I need a different brand that I don't know about? I'm in America...I don't know if we have Vivaia.
Pumps are the elegant shoes to wear
If you wear ballet flats, wear arch supports. And that's advice from my podiatrist.
I have to have both my knees replaced and haven’t worn high heels in over twenty yrs 😢
Also deal with massive neuropathy :/
Oh the days of having heathy knees & feet
Some brands of ballet flats have arch support but I forget the name.
Ballet flats are terrible for my feet. Penny loafers. Ankle boots with kitten stiletto heels or Cuban heels, sneakers, and 'flip-flops' . Then for the few times out dancing the high heeled pumps.
Frederique i am so happy to see you in my feed today ❤❤❤
You're the best!

I have a few pairs of Vivaia shoes, they’re so lovely ❤
J’aime ton accent français. C’est très élégant.
Im in need of some comfortable shoes any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Ouiiii j'adore aussi les Vivaia 😃😍👍👍
so i took the right size but my slip shoes keep slipping away and getting launch ;/ anything that fix slip shoes from escaping ?
I own three pairs of Vivaia. I only wish they had brick-and-mortar stores.
I’m 65 and just bought my first pair of Vivaia shoes. Game changer. Stylish and comfortable.
Ballet flats are bad for the feet , ask a podiatrist they will tell you , they have no support for the foot at all
I absolutely hate flats and sneakers on me. And I’m 73.
My Viviana’s hurt my heels 😢
You should try Vionic shoes, so much better. They put art support in their ballet flats and they use real material not plastic bottles ,they use good leather. I’m not going to pay $100 for plastic shoes.
My feet feel great in my Nike Airmax shoes when I’m traveling or need to walk a LOT. I have a pair of Adidas from a few years ago and they’re not as comfortable! Maybe the newer ones would feel better….
Hi Frederique, I have a problem with my feet that I haven’t heard spoken about before. I used to do ballet when I was younger, up until my teenage years and as such I have a high instep which means that most flats I have tried have been painful and I have had to throw them away. Ballet flats being (ironically) the main example. What would you suggest?
maybe see a specialist for your feet :)
Mephisto, Gaitline,.....
High arches but one bad ankle no more wearing heels. I'm so sad
Hmmm a shoe ypu can fold in half in England with our cobbles i dont think they would be a good idea you would feel ever pebble every lump bump if the sole is that thin i would imagine i just bought a real leather pair of ballet flats from zara in black friday sale bargain i paid £27.99 they have one mary jane style strap with a buckle and the real ballet shoe style almond but squared off toe stunning and even at full price £49.99 its worth it m&s do really beautiful dupes of the channel ballet flat in black i think they have the two toned version too real leather £39.99 good quality doesn't have to be expensive ❤
Vinyl shoes smell after a while!
You didn't mention how are their sizes running? Small, big, true to the size?
I wear 9,5 in sandals, and 10 in sneakers. What do I buy in ballet flats?
A bit small I recommend to take a size over
Just measure your feet properly.
Hi heels for winter?It's crazy.
Big no on ballet flats, look, feel
I have all of the shoes recommended 😀
Chere Frédérique, merci beaucoup🥰💃🏻🥿👠👡👢 There is a beautiful dog in this video😍🤩🥰. Who is it?😉🐶 Kindest regards from Germany💃🏻🌞🎑
My neighbour’s dog 😊

Well I always thought ballet flats did not support your feet !
