I LOVE the analysis of how you came to your current schedule. Task switching is EXHAUSTIVE. As a mom and having to tackle the correspondence between my kids school for some of their special needs, it leaves me drained and unable to focus on the needs of my small business. They're both important but and getting it to the point where the latter is truly thriving has been a challenge. I do remember that Cal Newport said his podcast to another mom that struggled with returning to work that for working mom's slow productivity would be more useful that just the habits if Deep Work because of how women's minds change to accommodate the needs of children. Not that I'm implying or suggesting you have or will have kids. Just acknowledging that when you have two things of importance in your life (you need to work to support yourself [/& family] WHILE supporting the needs of a new endeavor [/children]), requires a different framework. The adjustment of how we perceive, allocate, audit, adjust for and use time, being the key. For something that can feel complex and overwhelming, you did a beautiful job describing and explaining an actionable lesson in the book. Thank you. And I wish you much success in the future. ^-^
Hi Jahayra! Thank you so much for such a thoughtful and lovely comment, I really appreciate it! 🥰 Thank you so much for sharing about your life experience as well! I can't imagine how difficult it must be to care for your children AND run a small business. I really respect you. I hope that things will work out and hopefully you will feel a little less exhausted as things are more settled as time goes by. Let me know how it goes! 🥰
This video was super helpful! I haven’t create 3 lectures for public speaking on totally different subjects but knowing I should just focus on one at a time will really help! Thanks for your hard work on this channel
Thank you so much Angie! 🥰 I'm really glad you liked it and YESSS focusing on just one at a time is such a game changer. Simple but underrated. I do that all the time now HAHA. I hope your 3 lectures go well!
Thank you so much for the feedback! I'm really happy you liked this 🥰 I'll do my best to show more practical/math/economical aspects in future videos like these!
Slow Productivity has been one of my favourite books this year! Thank you for this video :) I've been thinking a lot about how Slow Productivity applies to my YT channel as well.
Thank you so much for the kind words! 🥰 Do you mind sharing which principles of Slow Productivity you applied to your channel? I'd love to learn more too!
@@LizLovesReadingSelfHelp Hey Liz! Yea, 1. Doing fewer things - RUclips is one of the most rewarding things I do, so I'm saying no to more other shiny objects and opportunities 2. Limiting projects - I may generate ideas and scripts but only work on one video project at a time 3. Working at a natural pace - I remind myself of this a lot combined with the 5 and 10-year plan horizons to not beat myself up if I can't get a video out every week.
@@FindYourFlow Thanks so much for the tips RJ! 🥰 Tip 2 is super useful, and I love what you said about 3! Sometimes RUclips can be so demoralizing HAHA so it helps to have a longer time frame.
@@LizLovesReadingSelfHelp You're welcome Liz, anytime! 😊 I find that once you keep going with RUclips for a while it becomes so much a part of who you are and what you want to share with the world that you'll do it regardless of the ups and downs. This is when the slow productivity of it really sinks in! The demoralization of quick wins on short time horizons won't matter so much.
Hi Michael thanks so much for letting me know! 🥰 I'm a big Cal Newport fan too! Which is your favorite book? One day I'll do a compilation of all his books. Probably in the next few months! 🥰
Thank you so much for the comment and sub, it really means a lot to me! 🥰I met my editor on Linkedin, and I pay about $200 per video, because the editor I hired is also a motion designer. I hope this helps and feel free to ask me more questions if you need to!
Hi thank you so much! 🥰 I hired from Linkedin, though it took me a long time to find someone who was good (almost 12 months). Have you tried Upwork and VidChops? Those are the most recommended!
Awesome video. Would love to know how you found such an awesome editor. I would also love to make videos but the time investment is the biggest problem. Editing takes forever and I just can’t manage it atm
Thank you so much Grace! I'm really glad you liked the video 🥰 I found my editor on Linkedin! But honestly it takes a really long time to sieve through the applicants, and finding a REALLY good one is like 1 in 300 (at least that was what happened for me). I also wasted a year of time before finding a good one. Honestly I'd just go for Vidchops. Same price range, but with a lot less hassle. It was recommended to me by a few of my RUclips friends. I hope this helps!
This is a great application! I’ve been trying to get more slow productivity in my life with a full time job, family, and small business. Each time I take PTO from work for deep focus, my kid is home sick from school 🤦♀️ Do you mind sharing where you found your editor?
Hey Brittany thank you so much for the kind words and the input! 🥰 Oh man I hope that your future PTOs will be a little less eventful :( And of course! I found my editor via Linkedin. But just FYI - most editors there suck, and it took me ONE WHOLE YEAR to find someone who was actually good. They also typically only edit talking head types the best, I'm editing my own videos on my other channel cos I haven't found anyone who knew all the technical stuff of a niche 🤦 You may have a better time with Vidchops, which also came highly recommended to me :)
Hi Sarah, I'm self-employed so it was easy for me to just work less. Back when I was working an office job, I did this exact same thing too. My manager was willing to let me work 3 days a week for a 40% pay cut (pro-rated). Hope this helps!
