My wife said the same. She was like, what is he saying? What is a Say-leen? Isn’t it pronounced Suh-leen? I just started laughing. It’s like the guys that say sir is that a Rooosh to my stage 3? Lol
Sorry for pronouncing it SAY-LEEN instead of SUH-LEEN fam. For some reason, i’ve just NEVER been corrected on the terminology before and truly have never really talked about Saleens or anything like that believe it or not so this video was definitely a first. Live and learn.

That orange is beautiful, I straight up never knew they came in those colors
I saw one of those orange saleens at a Ford dealership back in early 2000's and fell in love with the paint. It's still a standout life experience, despite me always having been a Chevy guy. I heard it was a $17000 paint option = insane, but so worth it!

Everyone I know keeps their saleen completely factory stock and honestly I think that’s amazing.

I'll always remember drooling over the extreme rainbow vert and coupe as a kid riding bikes and skating through our neighborhood. Dude always had the coolest cars! So sick to see how wild his collection has gotten over the years 🤙🤙

Most beautiful Saleens I have ever seen! BTW, the car that is your favorite is painted BERYLLIUM ORANGE. Saleen will not sell that paint! Congrats to John on a terrific collection.
$11,000 paint option from the factory!The finish on that paint makes it worth every penny! I used to work for BASF Paints and we used to paint cars 2,3, sometimes 4 times to get the finish perfect! Had a 96 Mystic Cobra(last of the 5.0s (but new body style), only cause I liked the darker🌈. BASF is the very best in auto paint
A neighbor of mine has got the dark mystic chrome 94-98 model
95 was the last year for the 5.0 in the Cobra. I had a 96 Cobra with a 4.6.

By far the s351 has my heart. Out of all of them, it sounds absolutely amazing. The factory cam chop and blower whine takes the cake🤌
Imagine if the 1st gen lightings would've had a vortex supercharger with there 351
There a guy that’s lives near me that owns Preston Ford and has one of the largest mustang collection I have ever seen. Two large garages filled top to bottom with all different years and models.
He owns almost all the hertz mustangs, some very rare mustangs.
I love the Saleen Enthusiasts Family and thank Steve for making these awesome machines. I have been around since 03 in the Saleen world and couldn't explain how awesome the people are in the community. FYI Steve Saleen also loves seeing rough around the edges, driven and raced Saleens. He always said his cars were built to be driven. There are surprisingly some big Saleen collections considering the limited production of these vehicles. Typically your really rare, ultra limited or special models are sold behind the scenes which only a few people are even aware of, so it's pretty crazy to think of it that way.
My choice out of his collection in video would be SA then the S351.
Loved the video even though some stuff was mispronounced lol. Hopefully you can get into some other collections for interviews like this. Try to get ahold of Mark LaMaskin or Greg Wackett for a tour or to get some possible connections. Both are great guys with a ton of knowledge in mustang world especially Saleens
The supercharged s351 and the new edge Saleen extreme with the forged 2v, twin screw blower and t56 6 speed are the baddest sn saleens ever made performance wise. Those would do well even in modern times as far as stock performance and potential modified performance. Nobody ever really modified s351s because they're so rare but they could have made some big time power even big power in today's era (700+ to the tires just cranking the boost up and opening up the exhaust little more) and this was in the 90s. Talk about being ahead of your time. The new edge extreme was pricey but with a stock twin screw and fully forged 2v you can make good power with stock parts just minor mods. I'd like to see more of them actually driven as intended and modified. Too many people pamper these cars and won't drive them it kills me. You can't take it with you and they aren't gonna be worth THAT much unless you have a 1 off or something.
That's one awesome collection. Nice seeing a 351 push rod engine in the 99. All are very nice.

My younger brother was the guy that ordered all the parts for the Saleen mustang in the Detroit plant. He started out as a parts clerk at a Chevrolet dealership in Chester VA. He got married and moved to Detroit. I was so jealous of him. Getting to take a gt mustang and making it a Saleen! Unfortunately Saleen closed the Detroit plant. So now he works for Volkswagen/ Volvo.
as someone who has followed these cars since they were new 20 years ago, it's so refreshing to see your excitement learning about the features and models of the specialty Saleens that were produced. We get a bit jaded just assuming everyone knows this stuff. BTW I'm glad you have since learned how to pronounce Suh-leen haha

My wife thinks I’m nuts with my New Edge convertible, S197 coupe, and 97 Camaro SS, but thats only half this collection. Running out of space can definitely limit you.
I just bought a 2000 Saleen s281sc, it's black has the saleen option Hood and the Saleen option chrome wheels,57k miles . I was really surprised how smooth this car drove on the interstate. A steal at 20,500

Wow, I'd love to pick this guys brain on what to look for when shopping for one of these. There are a ton of rebuilt ones, clones, and other variations of these, but I learned a lot from this video and really appreciate the detail that both of you put into this!!!

Some badass cars, but that 99 351 was probably my favorite. Sounds like it should and it's a pushrod. Wish he had a few more hardtops but hey he's got more than I ever will props to him for keeping them alive

Great coverage of a fantastic collection. He mentioned the Cobra Saleen and there was one for sale in the Massachusetts area from Paul Walkers collection I believe. I liked the white one with black hood.

Very cool collection! This video took me back. Once upon a time, I had a '96 S281 Saleen Coupe... #26. It was such a fun car to own and drive. I wonder about its whereabouts often. This collection is out of this world though. Maybe he'll get an SR one day? That and the Cobra are the ultimate additions to any car collection. Congrats!

I remember playing around on the Saleen website in 2002. I was a senior in college. I remember that rainbow paint and how much that option cost. The pictures on the website did not look good to me. That video makes it sooooo much better. I can't imagine what it must look like in person. They also had the SR on there for configuration back then, when it seemed like they were going to sell a street version. Did they end up selling only the one road-going prototype?

I am a chevy guy and camaro/firebird, but man i love these 4th gen mustangs, sn95s and the new edges. these are beautiful cars and i would love to get my hands on them one day, these remind me of the rare special edition gmmg camaro and trans ams that ive heard of and seen in person! but man those colors are beautiful!!
What a great guy and incredible set of cars... there was a white/white Saleen in Georgia back in the day 2007ish) that was pushing over a 1000hp.. mph built it and did a sick burnout in 5th with it haha

Those rainbows man....but good Lord that 351 got down. I remember reading about all of these models in the old 5.0 magazines back in the day. Thank you for one step closer into these beautiful horses and thanks for preserving these cars also. These cars are really goals for me, it gives me hope that maybe just one day....

Those Saleen Rainbows are beautiful. I’ve seen dozens of Mystic Chrome Cobras (our 03-04 Cobra group has two of them in it), but never a Saleen rainbow. Hell, one of our members is a Saleen collector and he doesn’t even have one yet because he can’t find one for sale.

Beautiful man 💯 I have a 2001 SVT Cobra convertible 🔥🔥🔥🔥 I had it 7yrs and l love it fam it a eye catcher came with black interior and has a roll bar and convertible cover as well and it’s a 5speed manual with a IRS package too Im the second owner, 7yrs ago I bought it with 80,000 miles on it stock . Now I’ve be putting a tone of upgrades on him now 😁 and he’s very aggressive 💪 💪💪, love your videos man 😎 keep the Mucle Cars roll ✌️

When I was a kid my dad bought a 00 s-281 brand new. Every since then I’ve always wanted one! And when I found out the saleen cobra a long time ago I always adore those ones
The best Saleen collection I’ve seen. I know of a berilium Saleen Cobra convertible. It’s in Ca. It’s not for sale. It was the last one they did because Saleen did not want to make them anymore. I thought the one in this vid was it but realized it wasn’t. Nice collection!

They made 28 03-04 S281 Cobras including 2 Canadian models. 99 S351s being the last year for the S351 was rated the highest horsepower I’ve heard anywhere from 495-510hp (remember this was in 99 and that was more then a Viper put down).
A buddy of mine had an 04 Cobra Saleen in black here in Michigan. His was built to the nuts though. Even put a solid rear axle in it. Sold it to a guy in Tennessee.

Bro thank you , I am from south Australia 🇦🇺 I am a huge Saleen fan , absolutely gorgeous this Saleen collection, I totally understand this collector, it’s rare and unique someone must preserve them , I’ve Broncos and 79 Ranger XLT they always tell me , it’s a pickup truck it’s made for driving, yes it’s made for driving years ago, now I kept mine and they don’t make them anymore, some people beat cars till death but something so rare so unique must be preserved indeed so future generations can see how it was like , those Saleen are gorgeous
