This is an antique Mark Mfg. pipe vise from the 1930's. I bought this vise at a yard sale for $5, it needed rust removal, cleaning and some repairs. At Greenridge Metal Works we repair and restore vintage tools as well as custom builds and one off machining. This project required degreasing, cleaning and some new parts to be machined. Now this vise is ready for use again!
Great restoration!! and very funny grinder failure ..... I laughed so hard.
I agree with all the previous comments. Nice job. Also, I saw a blue vice in the background too. 👍👍👍👍👍👍🇦🇺
Thanks! The blue one is a newer vise. It's the one I use most.
Thats awesome! Only thing is most of us plain joe's don't have a machine shop to make new parts like that.. Do another video with the existing parts restored.
In loving momery of the bench grinder had me, class for including it. Can you restore it? Also, nice pipe vice.
You do see a lot of these pipe vices for sale on eBay & possibly other websites, I don't have one myself it's not something that interests me as such, But i do have a collection of Engineer's vices & Woodworking vices made by Record Made In England & Marples England & Keen England etc, I don't restore my vices i just take most of them apart & clean them up a bit & grease & oil them.
That was an amazing refurbishing project there. Bravo sir, Bravo...
Thanks.
I think I saw a young man doing the disassembly at the beginning, your son? I also noticed a blue version of this vise installed on the workbench. Beautiful work restoring this tool to better-than-new.
Good eye. Yes he's my son. Thanks a lot!
Nice tear down and clean up. Beautiful restoration. I have one just like that but it was by Rock Island Mfg. Co.
Thanks!
Excellent job. It now can be used again for years to come.
Thanks.
Nice! That was fun to watch! :)
I tossed my granddads old Ridge model in the dishwasher. That stripped it good.
Good idea! Thanks for watching!
Were you forced to make the nuts & bolts (unique size/shape?) Or did you just want to? Either way, it's badass.
Square head bolts are available but I'm impatient and didn't want to wait on shipping. Also, you have to buy them in bulk.
Just when I thought I couldn’t possibly be more impressed than I was with your bench grinder video I see this one.
Yeah, I enjoyed rebuilding it. Thanks again.
... ready for the next 3 generations of craftsmen.
Exactly.
Awesome job!
love your work .......but could you tell your sons to get you a bigger paint brush for your birthday lol
Great job, just subscribed
Thanks!
😊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Serious Craftsmanship goin on here.....great. Regards from Germany.
Much appreciated, thanks for watching.
Nice work! The modern world has largely become a throwaway society. After only a few short years things are considered obsolete and just piled into a landfill. It sure is nice to watch someone who can see beyond the rust and raggedness and return something to its former glory. Good for you!
I love using old tools! Don't listen to those who say old tools are made of inferior steel and new tools are better designed. Spending gobs of money on high end tools just makes some people feel important.
Arrg! You’re making me concerned here! I just ordered a used pipe vise through eBay!
I'm sure it'll be better than this one was. Thanks for watching!
Love your polisher Obituary....brilliant resto bro!!!
😁😁😁😁
Cool🔥🔥🔥👍👍👍
Very good restoration 👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
That is as sweet as a peach.
Thanks, I enjoyed doing it.
Beautiful work!
Thanks!
Amazing work!
Thanks!
Gran trabajo!!
gracias de nuevo
I just recently got one of these old vises for free, wondering why on the latch side there is an empty hole, are you supposed to put a bolt through to keep it latched after you have your pipe inserted?
Thats kinda what I thought it is for too.
