The Lotus Elise is 25 - and it's designer, Julian Thompson, helps us celebrate.

Julian gives us the story of this seminal car - 25 years to the day when it was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motorshow. Julian very kindly offered us the chance to hear the story for our REVS Refuelled and Ready at Bicester Heritage on September 12th 2020.

I was in London in 1995-6?, standing next to green Elise, being amazed by the design and the look. Now 25 years later I bought Exige S260 in US and is about to enjoy the car ! Congratulation for the quarter century anniversary !

I still love my 1999 Elise 19 years after I bought it . Good examples now selling for mor than I paid. So no regrets on the money spent over the years. All the parts replaced are better and stronger than those that came with the car. No rattles or squeaks or leaks just a bit loud. Mine even has a carpet set bought from Lotus!

I fell for the Elise as soon as I saw it and every time I see one, especially an S1, it really lifts my day. It's a happy car, and there are very few of those.

Mr Thompson can hold his head high. I still rate the first Elise as one of the best looking cars to come out of the 90s. It has aged extremely well. And I'm the owner of an original Audi TT.
