This is from his excellent "Reckless" album, which rightly spawned several big hits. Bizarrely, the album's title track wasn't actually on the original 1984 release, but turned up decades later in an extended 30th anniversary version of the album!
Bryan Adams Came First He released his first album in 1980, Summer of 69 was from Bryan Adams fourth Album Reckless which is still a Classic Rock Album which was released in 1984. Bon Jovi released their first Album in 1984 but Living on a Prayer came from their third Album Slippery when Wet which was released in 1986, so Bryan Adams definitely was around first by many years and has a back catalogue of mainly Classic Rock Songs and not just Ballads.
Run to You is my personal favourite. Also, I grew up on the North Shore in the Van area - Bryan Adams used to play in a band (when he was only 16!) called Sweeney Todd. They played some of our high school dances. I know. CRAZY.
The 1993 Three Musketeers movie is a classic with 5 legendary actors: Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, Oliver Platt, Chris O'Donnell and Tim Curry as the evil Cardinal.
One thing that a lot of people miss is that this vid is the first of a set of 4 that tells a story. Order is: "Summer of 69", "Somebody", "Heaven", "Run To You". They're from a video album he did. The same actress, Lysette Anthony, plays the girl in all of them.
I'm 44 and the time I heard him I fell in love. All these 80s late 80s people forget this what we listen to in the car always on the radio. Plus he's sang with Rod Stewart and Sting th r lead singer of the police
Bryan Adams' first album came out in 1980. Bon Jovi's first album came out in 1984. Bryan Adams started in 1975. When he was 10 years old (in 1969), he bought his first electric guitar based on a Fender Stratocaster. He left school to pursue his dream of being a musician. At the age of 15, he became the vocalist for a glam rock band called Sweeney Todd.
Bryan was FIRST, a SONGWRITER, singer and collaborator with many other artists in the IK and USA. His early videos are from his home town near Vancouver BC CANADA. He is a Canadian Medal of Honor
North Vancouver, just a few minutes drive over a bridge from downtown, part of the greater Vancouver Regional District. If we did the same as Toronto, it would all be Vancouver.🇨🇦❤️
growing up in the 70s, a "5 and dime" were generally a mom and pop general store where you get inexpensive hardware supplies, and in the case of a 10 year old like me back then, it's where I bought school supplies, Halloween costumes, candy, toys, posters etc., all affordable and within my allowance of $5 a week, LOL.
Your parents must have been well off... my allowance in the 70s was $1.00/week. Of course, I could get 3 comic books, candy bar and a freshly made soda and still come home with change..... I couldn't imagine having a $5.00/week allowance. I'd have been living like a KING! (And no, I'm not throwing shade..... I'm happy for you having that. I didn't have it too bad, as I did get some of the best toys at the time for birthdays and Christmas. Plus, we had a swimming pool in the back yard. I was also raised by my grandmother, so that may have been a difference.)
Another '70's kid here. We walked down to Hall's 5 and Dime every Saturday to get a candy bar and Icee. I can still hear the way the floorboards creaked. 😊
Another 70s kid, my allowance was $5 a week. I remember buying candies, sodas, and comics. As I got older, my allowance would go to buying rock magazines and video games at arcades.
Bryan is one of those artists who sounds EXACTLY the same when he performs live. But I know he's not lip syncing because the one concert I went to, he incorrectly sang the 2nd verse first and then when he got to the 2nd verse had the biggest grin on his face when he realized he goofed. Seen him over 15 times and he never disappoints. He has also written songs for many different artists; the one that comes to mind is "When The Night Comes" by Joe Cocker. He started in a band called Sweeney Todd when he was 16 back in the 70s, so yeah, definitely before Bon Jovi. People used to call him the Canadian Bruce Springsteen.
Ok… Duuuuuude! You have to react to Tina Turner AND Bryan Adams “It’s only love” LIVE! Such a banger and such great chemistry, RIP Tina Turner ❤ Also, Cuts like a knife, Straight from the heart, I’m gonna run to you, Please Forgive me, In the heat of the night, etc. I have never seen Bryan Adams in concert, but he’s on my list. I’m hoping to see him next time he is touring. ❤
Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams were contemporaries, but this song came out in 1985 and Livin on a Prayer was 1986. Bryan Adams debuted in 1980 from Canada, Bon Jovi was formed in 1983 from New Jersey. Bryan Adams was considered a Canadian “Roots Rock” performer, Bon Jovi at the beginning was more of a hard rock “Hair Rock” band, but their sound was very similar.
Yep - just like all eras had a commercialized "pop" sound. I think that is what BP is picking up on. I never really put Bryan Adams with Bon Jovi before, but I think that might be because they tended to play them each on different types of radio stations back in the day. For me, Bryan Adams' style would be more similar (tuning into the radio) to that of Rick Springfield, Richard Marx, REO Speedwagon, etc. Bon Jovi tended to be grouped in more with heavier rock styles like Ratt, Motley Crue, Skid Row, etc. Of course, there was cross-over songs and artists then just like now. A huge influence on Jon Bon Jovi was fellow Jersey boy, Bruce Springsteen, whose music was more commonly played on pop rock rather than hard rock stations. Glad to see BP forgoing box labels and giving it all a try. 👏
In the mid-90's, Bryan came out with "The Only Thing That Looks Good on Me Is You" which is a real banger, too. He has a ton of them, but this one is often overlooked.
He`s song Run to you, is really good. Everyone requests the slower songs, Heaven, etc. but Run to You is a fast paced rock song like Summer of 69, and one of his best songs.
I saw Bryan Adams at the Texas Jam alongside superstars Ozzy Osborne, 38 Special , and the main attraction, RUSH. Bryan was the opener and I must say, put on the best show out of the bunch.

This song came off the album "Reckless " released in November of 1984. His career was started in 1977 in Vancouver, BC. He fronted a band called Sweeney Todd at 16/17 years old. I actually own the one album he did with that band called "If Wishes Were Horses" Bryan Adams left it in 78 to pursue a solo career. The irony about your Bon Jovi remark and Bryan Adams is that they both used Vancouver to record great records. Bon Jovi album "Slippery When Wet" in 1986. Bryan Adams is the single biggest male artist to come out of Canada. He has so many hit songs it's crazy. I would suggest a reaction from his Reckless album he did with Tina Turner called "It's Only Love ""
This song is so great. I was in high school when this came out, and he is right. I miss the younger days... I have a kid too, but man, this song brings back so many great memories.
Got to see this guy a few years ago, and he was just as fire as he was back then. You would be hard pressed to meet a Canadian Gen Xer or Millennial who HASN'T heard this gem of a tune!
Yeah, I watched him do an interview on a morning TV show. The interviewer started talking about the year and he just corrected her with an "It's not about the year" She stuttered a bit, said What? And he said "It's not about the year" she just stared at him speechless while he nodded a yes at her dawning realization. Best morning interview I ever watched!😂
Prior to his solo career, Bryan was briefly a member of Canadian glam rock band, Sweeney Todd. They released two albums in the late 70s before splitting up, with singer Nick Gilder singing on the first album, then leaving for a solo career (his lone hit in the U.S. was "Hot Child in the City" in 1979). He was replaced by then 16-year-old Bryan Adams who sang on the 2nd album (their big hit with Gilder on vocals was "Roxy Roller" - #1 in Canada but stalled at #90 in the U.S.; it was re-recorded with Adams singing, becoming another minor hit in the U.S., peaking at #99 the following month). Bryan's first solo hit (he had also been part of a successful songwriting team for other artists with partner Jim Vallance) in the U.S. was "Lonely Nights" in 1981, which only charted at #84 on the pop chart, but at Album Rock (AOR) radio it was a #3 hit. His first top 10 hit (1983) was a ballad, "Straight from the Heart" (#10) and his first platinum-selling top 10 album, "Cuts Like a Knife". He steadily enjoyed greater success with each successive release over the next few years, with both up-tempo rock songs & ballads - although he's only charted at #1 with mostly ballads (the exception being "All for Love", which was a trio of singers - himself, Rod Stewart & Sting, and was featured in the 1993 movie adaptation of The Three Musketeers).
The best years of your life changes as you grow older everyone learns different life lessons and goes through changes that make you appreciate what you have gone through in your life..always remember what you had but most of all appreciate what you have now.....
Doing things for the first time, like the first time I heard this song. My first job. 14. Literally working at a drive-in. It's so cool that we get to relive that feeling through music reactors. ❤
_Run To You_ , _Run To You_ , _Run To You_ , _Run To You_ , _Run To You_ , _Run To You_ , _Run To You_ , _Run To You_ , _Run To You_ , BUT when you get to the instrumental breakdown in the last 3rd of the song crank up the volume of your stereo system to as loud as you can. I could never get enough volume out of my headphones to please me when I was hooked on this song.
Heard a story that Bryan Adams was an opening act earlier in his career. Because he wore his signature jeans and white t-shirt, the headliner mistook him for a roadie and directed him to move some equipment. Being the cool guy he was, Bryan Adams didn’t correct, but instead just moved the equipment as directed!😂 Also, saw him in concert last year with Joan Jett. Still a great performer and his new music l is really good.
I've been lucky enough to actually go see this legend live on tour & I've gotta say.. If it's even possible... He sounds even better live than on anything else!! He appeared in the middle of us all on the floor, just him, his guitar & fantastic voice! No one expected him to just suddenly start singing amongst us all! I will say though he ain't that tall lool evryone was looking round trying to find where his voice was coming from then all went nuts realizing he was literally right in front of us! Was truely amazing night & one of the best of my life, seeing you doing this reaction has taken me back to that night with all the feels & everything else that came with it hun!! Thank you so much for taking me back to an awesome time! He's also an amazing photographer too! ❤
That's the cool thing about music, it brings you memories. With this specific song I remember a couple of cousins that went to my hometown to buy a new car, they bought a Mustang and we had this Bryan ADams' tape in the car's stereo burning tires with the new car.
I've been to many of his concerts since the 80's. Bryan is a great story teller in his songs, he are just a few: Cuts Like A Knife Run to You Can't Stop This Thing We Started Thought I Died and Gone To Heaven It's Only Love (with Tina Turner) I Finally Found Someone (with Barbara Streisand) When You're Gone (with Melanie C from Spice Girls) All for One (with Sting & Rod Stewart) Touch The Hand This Time And I can go on and on....
Bryan was living in Vancouver when he was starting out. That was my hometown's drive-in theater (Chilliwack). Many good memories. This song was 1985 and Bon Jovi hit big in '86.
9:41 That’s funny that your intro to him came from ballads and those of us who grew up with it knew the rocker tracks before the ballads. Although, it wasn’t until his third album that I had any interest in his music.
My daughter just turned 25 in September and it seems like just yesterday that we were bringing her home from the hospital. Cherish these moments with your little ones. It goes by too fast! The days are long, but the years are short.
Life is in chapters and the innocents you always will find better times. You are starting to see the innocents through the eyes of your children. Enjoy it is all the best times just different chapters.
Bryan was born in 1959, 10 years before me, I grew up on his music in high school and Uni. and yeah he was a rocker as much as a power ballad. All around great singer. He did a song with Sting and Rod Stewart, "All For Love" that is freaking Fire. Still have Bryan on my Spotify lists.
One of the best concerts I've ever attended was Bryan Adams in Hampton, VA. Nonstop for 2½ hours was very nice to the audience, and I really liked how he sat on the edge of the stage at the end of the concert and took questions for a ½ hour.
In 1980 Adams released his self-titled first album and went on a four-month Canadian tour. Following his next release, You Want It, You Got It (1981), he went on a six-month American tour. His third album, Cuts Like a Knife (1983), reached the top 10 of the Hot 100 list.7 days ago… What year did Bon Jovi first come out? Formed in 1983 by singer Jon “Bon Jovi” Bongiovi Jr., keyboardist David Bryan, drummer Tico Torres, bassist Alec John Such and guitarist Richie Sambora, the band debuted its self-titled album in January 1984. In the 40-plus years since, Bon Jovi has cemented its place in musical history…
My boys are 34 and 36. I love when they come visit, but those days when they were growing up where the BEST days of my life. I believe we have to do our best to make each day the best. You are such a joy to watch as you review these songs. Blessings to you and your family.
My late grandmother thanks you....this was her favorite song!!! Also, Bon Jovi formed in 1983, Bryan Adams released his first solo single in 1979, 'Let Me Take You Dancing'...prior to that, he was the lead vocalist for Canadian rock band, Sweeney Todd. Finally, this video is part 1 of a trilogy...part 2 is Heaven [official alternate video, NOT live acoustic version], and part 3 is Run to You. The video trilogy follows the narrative of lost love with the girl in this video, played by actress Lysette Anthony. She also appears in the video for Cuts Like A Knife, but it is not recognized as part of this trilogy.
Bryan came first 1980 Bon Jovi was 83. Bryan is Canadian so maybe he wasn’t as well known in the states immediately. I saw him last year live. He’s 63 and sang for over 2 hours straight and sounds amazing live.
"Run to You", "Cuts Like a Knife". Saw him as opening act for Journey, decades ago.
Same here in Philly ❤ 1983
Same here. Think it was maybe ‘82 or ‘83?

Bryan Adams and Tina Turner "It's only love". One of my favourites.
Gotta do the LIVE version of that one! (I’m not sure which live version, but it’ll be the most popular one, for sure)

YES. This!
It was the HBO concert series video that's the best live version.

Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart & Sting - All for Love
"Run to You" is another banger from Bryan Adams!
"Cuts Like a Knife" another "rock" song by Bryan Adams. AND "Summer of 69" came out June 17, 1985. Livin' on A Prayer" came out in Oct 1986.
Best part is after all these years....all of the band members are still with him.
Bryan Adams, sting, and rod Stewart…all for love is so great

I've heard this song a thousand times and this is literally the first time I've ever seen the video.
My 40's, hands down, best time of my life!
Bryan's still touring. Incredible live, saw him earlier this year in Anaheim. It's a real rock concert, every song's good. Always liked this one!
Bryan Adams I thought I died and gone to heaven a MUST!
The pool scene from the Cuts Like a Knife is worth it alone.
Cherish these moments. You'll never pass this way again.
I saw him as opening act for Journey, decades ago like the dude below. As good as it gets! Both were incredible!
_Run To You_ , _Run To You_ , _Run To You_ , _Run To You_ , _Run To You_ , _Run To You_ , _Run To You_ , _Run To You_ , _Run To You_ ,
BUT when you get to the instrumental breakdown in the last 3rd of the song crank up the volume of your stereo system to as loud as you can.
GREAT song Bryan Adams Genius......
Bryan Adams were first! Excellent musician and song writer..he even wrote songs for KISS
my 1st concert was BRYAN ADAMS opening for LOVERBOY on their GET LUCKY tour - it was in VANCOUVER so 2 hometown heroes at once
I love his voice.
59 here. Miss the 70's and 80's so much!!!!!!
Bryan is a great story teller in his songs, he are just a few:
Cuts Like A Knife
Run to You
Can't Stop This Thing We Started
Thought I Died and Gone To Heaven
It's Only Love (with Tina Turner)
I Finally Found Someone (with Barbara Streisand)
When You're Gone (with Melanie C from Spice Girls)
All for One (with Sting & Rod Stewart)
Touch The Hand
This Time
And I can go on and on....
You always have to go back to the 70's ..... the the singers and bands older stuff when they were young is always the best stuff to hear first!!
Been a few years since I’ve listened to this.
Actually gave me chills with the memories associated with it.
Bryan was living in Vancouver when he was starting out. That was my hometown's drive-in theater (Chilliwack). Many good memories. This song was 1985 and Bon Jovi hit big in '86.
Another song on my daily playlist ❤️
I saw him last year I think. He was just as good as ever.
Bryan Adam's wrote the whole soundtrack to the DreamWorks movie spirit
Look how young he is. He is awesome.
He has one with Tina Turner "It's Only Love" that is just fire!
THE BEST!
9:41 That’s funny that your intro to him came from ballads and those of us who grew up with it knew the rocker tracks before the ballads. Although, it wasn’t until his third album that I had any interest in his music.
Bryan Adams somebody is a great song one of my favorites you gotta react to it.
My daughter just turned 25 in September and it seems like just yesterday that we were bringing her home from the hospital. Cherish these moments with your little ones. It goes by too fast! The days are long, but the years are short.
It is the start of the best days of my life 61 years later.
Me too. 61. Takes me way back in time. I was born in 63. Love from Indiana.
Bryan Adam came first. So many hits. 🙌🏽🇨🇦
Absolutely 💯 🔥
My all time favorite by Brian.
Brian is great. He is a kick ass rock and roller! I love him. Five and dime was a department store. ❤
Everyday ithe best day of your life with your memories as you age
This song is also reflection on transitioning from one's youth to middle and old age and all the memories past.
In 1980 Adams released his self-titled first album and went on a four-month Canadian tour. Following his next release, You Want It, You Got It (1981), he went on a six-month American tour. His third album, Cuts Like a Knife (1983), reached the top 10 of the Hot 100 list.7 days ago…
What year did Bon Jovi first come out?
Formed in 1983 by singer Jon “Bon Jovi” Bongiovi Jr., keyboardist David Bryan, drummer Tico Torres, bassist Alec John Such and guitarist Richie Sambora, the band debuted its self-titled album in January 1984. In the 40-plus years since, Bon Jovi has cemented its place in musical history…
HIM WITH TINA TURNER "IT'S ONLY LOVE " GREAT CHEMISTRY! LIVE CONCERT
My boys are 34 and 36. I love when they come visit, but those days when they were growing up where the BEST days of my life. I believe we have to do our best to make each day the best. You are such a joy to watch as you review these songs. Blessings to you and your family.
You need to check out his duet with Tina Turner and the song " it's only love" a definite banger ✌️
