Met you and your beautiful family at the vic 4wd show two years ago Bought a dads dumb decisiona sticker and have been holding it until the right time A few weeks ago i slapped it on the back on my new gu patrol Have had plenty of gq's before always wanted a gu Its toting 278 thousand kays but one owner and service history every 5000kays all the way back to the purchase Modest tune and exhaust it makes enough power and boost to keep me happy and the interior is like brand new Christmas came early this year
They’re a fun vehicle and I miss my ti model, but I just couldn’t afford the fuel bill, lol. When it hit the rev limiter though, I couldn’t help but smile! Great rig mate and I hope you continue enjoying it for years to come. 😁👍🏼
Gotta love the tb48 patrol. Had mine for 4 years now, 42000 on clock still going strong. This my second tb48 had auto now got manual. Great video. Keep up the good work.
earlier this year i grabbed a chopped TB48 (space cab ute) running 4.1 ratios on maxxis 315 75 16 beadlocks and 85% reduction gears with front ARB locker. Kings rear suspension and steering dampner, full superior on 3 inch dobbo flexi coils. I've done 2 4x4 Weekend warrior competitions and last weekend drove 400kms to the comp and back home. they are bloody good things and very strong and capable. The 85% reductions are excellent with the auto. top speed around 55kmh. in long slow rough stuff not racing Snow mode is handy to smooth things out..
Totally agree with you, solid axels front & rear with twin diff lockers is the way to go - hands down. My choice of vehicle differs from yours but the rest doesn’t.
That's the best documented build run down hands down I have actually ever watched, I pick up my first gu patrol on Saturday and except it's a 4.5 ti it's set up for touring already just not extreme stuff. Also how has it not been on its side, you certainly work those axles to there limits haha drive it like you stole it . Cheers for the good entertainment... 👍 looks wicked . Should put a roll over protecting bar up the middle pillars on the inside extra safety for the kids .
Wow , I’m a Toyota guy but this is one awesome vehicle. I’m sure you are loving it and seems super capable! Thanks for sharing the journey and the dreaded costs associated. Enjoy
This rig is the reason I decided not to sell mine 2 years ago and so glad I didn't, mate don't turbo it the TB48 will go forever if well maintained sure turbo would be so much fun but you'll lose that reliability and they still leave the td"s for dead in standard form.
What an amazing transformation of this mighty GU... Man you have one hell of a vehicle there. Im sure this one along with the GQ are keeper's. Great channel Tyler.👍
Love the build✌🏻 got myself an auto tb48 too. Rocking it in Fnq. Did the creb track a few weeks ago. It was awesome! But man they are heavy on fuel. Haha
Nice one Tyler. Are you still using this as your family hauler? 'Coz it's now turned into one serious bit of kit. You realise you now have 3 iconic 4WDs in your stables. The GQ, GU & 80. What a 4WD enthusiast dream garage. ❤
Make sure on the GU Patrol you put support bracing on top of the rear springs because when they bend the right hand side will squeeze against the brake line and fuel lines that run over the top of the hood of the springs. And get your body lifted 50ml off the chassis and you will thank yourself for it later. When are the things you use the fuel tank make sure you fix the Earth up from sub tank and main tank preferably straight to the chassis. They're the only bad habits.
Looking at replacing my old n70 for a GU tb48 with around 240’000kms. Any advice on what to look out for when I go check the wagon out ? Thanks Brandon.
Go and see old mate Rodney known as rocket from automatic wholesalers and get a look-up kit for your GU Patrol and also if you don't do that use your automatic like a manual & Lockett in 1st gear low range and if you need to go second you still can. I also find the Automatics good going downhill in low range first gear yep you don't need to use brakes.
Hi Tyler I am having issues with my 4.8L GU patrol, engine losing power under load, could you recommend a good service centre to take it too in sydney?
Nice vid mate. I’m really interested to hear about all your coil spring weight carrying and flex learnings you were talking about the other week with the GQ. Seems like a hard balance. I’m on my second set of 3inch lift rear springs now….
Awesome video mate. What is she weighing in at?? My TB48 is at 3.2tonne and I'm barely halfway through my build. And how do you go on steep downhills? Even in 1st gear low I can't seem to get mine to crawl. Over a certain steepness it just runs away from me and I'm having to use way too much brake. Is it the reduction gears that will fix that?
I’ll start by saying you found a fan amazing car mileage model etc everything is great! But I don’t understand Why people always look for cars to buy locally, it’s not expensive to get it towed from another state if you can find exactly what you want somewhere else :)
Engineering was cheap. Here in Tas I was quoted 5k and up to engineer for 35s. Insurance? We've found you cannot insure for the real cost of these trucks with any company. Most well undervalue the true cost/value of the car, including those that brag about insuring full value. Eg., GQ shorty costs so far 40k, insured for 25- best we could get anywhere. Some valued it at 6k!!
I thought this was bought to be an offroad touring family car and not necessary a hard wheeling rig. Has that initial plan now changed? Such a big transformation from grandpa spec to a track weapon.
Was always a family car and still is, never necessarily as a tourer though, was always twin lockers and 35's so can do hard tracks and touring and everything
Do you actually realize that you have the best basic, the best potential to have the TOP terrain SUV in the world in general? What did you talk about with reliability? With correct and proper modifications, parts to the engine, cooling, transmission, etc... I think you know, after that you can have the full reliable Y61 TB48 with 700-800 HP and 1100-1400 Nm without any doubt. That's why the TB48 Turbo/s Y61 PATROLS are the highest peaks between all versatile terrain full size SUV's.
Why would anyone want diesel engine when they are so much more to maintain? Especially when you can get super reliable Toyota gas engines (4.6L, 4.7L, 5.7L) as well as all the reliable Nissan gas engine variants. Seems like a money pit when those other gas engines are 500k-1 million mile engines anyways.

Do you like manual better or do you miss auto?

my dream build too. slowly getting there 🐢🐢🐢

Appreciate it!

Totally agree with keeping it standard and reliable..500 000 kms and winching a tiny bit more is better than $50 000 on new motors and upgrades
Man my GU RD28 is parked up at the mo needing some work but man this vid has given me some inspiration!!
Awesome rig Tyler!!!! Glad to see it’s gonna be back in action gettin used for what it’s built for 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Absolutely love this car.
Yours and Timmy's GQ are what made me buy a GU S4
now your making me want to convert it to TB48 😂😂
Unreal what u put her through u don't mess around mate , yep she looking great after tiedy ups 👌

😂😂
Bloody love this rig 👌🏻same year as mine same colour mines still granpa spec except for 33 inch tyres. Great video Tyler 👍
Pretty good....Looking forward to seeing the dessert trip...😊
this is turning into one of my favorite RUclips channels! Big up from Canada
Thank you!
She has been a good rig!
Glad you thought outside the box when going with the petrol patrol.
Definately an underrated vehicle. 🤠
TB48 life is good,👌
Fantastic video, really enjoyed it!
Just awesome - love it.
Go the Patrol! cool to see ! 🛻📹😎🤙
What an amazing journey ❤
well done - another great video !!!
What an amazing transformation of this mighty GU... Man you have one hell of a vehicle there. Im sure this one along with the GQ are keeper's. Great channel Tyler.👍
Like this one better than your other smoke belcher.
Looks epic now 👌
Love the build✌🏻 got myself an auto tb48 too. Rocking it in Fnq. Did the creb track a few weeks ago. It was awesome! But man they are heavy on fuel. Haha
Came out flipping rad 🕶🤙👍
It’s been a wild ride Tyler 😂
Great fkn build man keep doing this💯
Nice one Tyler. Are you still using this as your family hauler? 'Coz it's now turned into one serious bit of kit. You realise you now have 3 iconic 4WDs in your stables. The GQ, GU & 80. What a 4WD enthusiast dream garage. ❤
Yep building them all up! And yep the TB48 is staying as a 7 seater
Good video, leave it stock
Looks good mate 👌👌 would like to see you slap a turbo on it in the future
Hey tyler, hope everything is OK and your having an amazing fathers day. Normally watched your latest video by now.

What a beast, that's a dream come true, but why would you change the hub lockers from Automatic to manual?
Is it fair to say the TB48 Auto patrol has been more reliable than your TD42 GQ? I have a TB48 myself and just love it.
What an awesome looking beast it is now!
Tinted tail lights would look a heap better I reckon 👌 keep up the awesomeness tylz 👍
Hey Tyler, (great video) at 8:27 there is a drone shot of your campsite. Where is it.? Is it mt howitt? Many thanks
Love it
Okay that's confirmation for me to get a patrol, was looking at the 300i, the ZD30 motor...what's your advice ?
Holy hell who installed the snorkel hows the gaps
If you had to start again stock standard, what are the top 3 recommendations of a must fit first? Cheers awesome gu
you should go to the glasshouse mountains
Mate you should try ostrich wing
Where did you get the sun visor from.

what a wicked build mate !
Absolutely love the build love the petrol tb48 I have a tb42 and it’s a weapon no where near as good as this just curious how my fuel do you use in it
Get around 21L per hundred on road mate, recently did a desert trip and got around 26-27L per hundred for a mix of sand and dirt driving
Hey mate what’s the process to getting it all engineered.
Thanks
Nice vid mate. I’m really interested to hear about all your coil spring weight carrying and flex learnings you were talking about the other week with the GQ. Seems like a hard balance. I’m on my second set of 3inch lift rear springs now….
Would absolutely love a tb48 but don’t think I could afford to keep fuel in it 😂😂
Awesome video mate. What is she weighing in at?? My TB48 is at 3.2tonne and I'm barely halfway through my build.

What did you do with the flares? I hate factory look I love the s4 factory flares what did you do??
Whats that rear wheel carrier bar?
It’s tb 45?
TB48

after all those mods whats the weight of it? just the fuel capacity alone is ridiculous
Did you pass your engineering with the 4.8 stock brakes I am engineering 35 at the moment and unsure if the stock brakes will pass
Up the bop life !
What fuel do you run in the rig?
Ie; 98 or 95?
TIA
Really wish the US didn't have stupid import laws. From what I can tell, these rigs are pretty rugged and reliable.
Good

why did you get it auto? just why.
Is it a manual
Auto
So the botyom line was....?
Still crazy how 35s isn’t legal in Qld for a GU patrol but different states are .. love tb48
Meanwhile 37s can be plated on shitbox 79's. Insane
Qld classes themselves as a separate country 🤣
Where is yesterdays post mate. I am suffering from withdrawals.
I had a GU then I lost everything and found meself in a 100series Amazon🤦🏾♂️
Great build. What's your favourite mod?
Probably the suspension I reckon
Should put a 4 link arm suspension from buds on it mate. She'd flex like a new born giraffe on eccies haha
How many kms on it now? 69k when you got it
Maybe about 115K mate
ya took the roof rack off at the end vid ??
It's gone when he goes to Fraser, guessing not needed once it was towing
Yeah take it on and off when we need it, back on at the moment for central Australia trip
What the hell is with the snorkel height and rear scrubbies !?! That's proper messed up!
I had a turbo 48 and regret selling it! Just drings out ya inner Arab! On fkn limiter daily 🤪
I want to work where you work....Apparently Im doing something wrong, hehe
You may need to send Sam Young to your engineer to make his legal
wheee do you even find a vehicle with such low ks and rarity
Roughly $88,820.00 for anyone wondering (give or take a couple of dollars).

Why Nissan decided to not put the patrol on the American market is something that ill never understand.
If it’s not broken why fix it.
🇭🇲❤️🍺👍
Must be eating up your payload?
What a tank brother may it be blessed for u and ur family @shaddonaghue not going to keep up anymore should have bought a patrol mate 😂😅
