I got to see The Who with Moon at MSG in the 70's. Wish i could go back in time. See the dvd, "Amazing Journey, the Story of The Who", great documentary.
I remember the halcyon days of The Ealing Club when The Who were still called 'The Detours'...and then 'The High Numbers'...crawling along the gutter at 4 a.m. with my ears ringing like cathedral bells. Those were the days!
Oh beard shmeard!!! WHO CARES!!! "Isn't it sad... boo hoo etc." Can't a very charming and funny man tell a freakin' great story and for god's sake can't you just enjoy it? Delightful clip thanks for posting it!
Yeah, he mostly lead with the left foot. Although he did occasionally swap! As John Entwistle said, "Keith didn't know why he was so good"...amen to that!
I saw this when it was first broadcast back in 1977. I haven't seen it in 35 years but it's pretty much the way I remembered it, almost word for word. I think this story is mostly corroborated by others who were there so there probably is a lot of truth to it.
rock is death, hip hop is death, but we are not,and as long as theres humans in the world that are muscicians like us,music will go on...in some way or another, those days are long gone, but the present is here, harder than before, but its here.....time to re invent things, and pray to keith moon 2 help us, and look out for us down here.
All of you crying about the death of great rock and roll are just getting too old to appreciate new music. I bet you yell at your kids to "Turn that damn noise down!" As I reach middle age, I find it helps to turn the radio up loud and get into bands like the Raconteurs, or Death Cab for Cutie (or whoever you like) the same way I appreciated Pink Floyd or Dire Straits 30 years ago. There are some fantastic new musicians on the radio all the time. You just have to open your mind a little.
Amazing. It's only depressing when you think there will never be another rock musician who can match such an amazing integrity (with out being considered a rip off moon-the-loon). Best band/drummer/group of fuckers ever.
I have grown up in wembley , and now the local accent is anything but upper class , but in the fifties it was a well to do area , also Kit Lambert , the mangaer of the who in the early days WAS upper class who had a massive impact on keith and was someone whohe aspired to , so he probably spoke well to start off with but also emulated after seeing what a plum voice can do for you,,,, especially in th U.S.A.
I play bass in a band called Pity The Midget. Check us out on Myspace. And to me the gold standard for all rhythm sections is Moony and Ox. There the best and if me and my drummer even live up a 1/16th of what Moony and Ox did. I will die a happy bassist.
He put that voice on,it wasnt his real accent.Think he played so many characters that in the end he forgot who the real keith moon was! There was something missing up top!
Oh please, stop with the "all music today sucks" rant. There are MANY great artists out there who are doing their own thing, but you don't hear about them because of the lack of promotion. Yes, the media tries to force feed everyone what music they think is "in". But don't assume all bands these days are like that.
I think his first beard was in early 76 because he was clean shaven for the 1975 tour. He had the first beard up to around the late summer of 76. He was clean shaven during the Oct. 1976 shows with the Dead. His 77 beard was during the definitely around during the summer of 77 but it was gone by November of 77 when he Chris Welch did that NME piece on hanging out with Moon in London. Wow, I'm scarying myself with this topic.
Axl WHO? better to burn out like Moon (die) than fade away (Rose) PS...a fan would know it isn't "Axel" and while we are correcting the students...Genius.
It's a FACT that Keith also had the tendency to bullshit people and stretch the truth every now and again. He's obviously coked out of his mind here and I would tend to think he's having fun with these folks knowing they are gonna believe anything he says.
@67675656565655656565 he had big drugs and alcohol problems and killed a friend in a car accident which made him feel guilty for the rest of his live. yeah great life..
does anyone know at all ...where this excerpt is taken from, and if there is more?! (obviously some US tv show) also can someone upload keith moon interviewed by none other than the prince of glam himself, marc bolan, in 1976 for Thames television??
The old "three in one" hotel room wrecking story...excellent. Spent his entire life creating stories for everyone else to recount. What a legend. And as for the numbnuts posting comments when they know fuck all about him, isn't there some Westlife clips ye can watch instead?
Keith Moon was one of the most spontanious and most creatively interesting drummers that existed. Now today you have drummers who are not artists but are more like boring technicians who ride on the coat tails of real songwriters. So please, if you like boring tecnical drummers that no one really listens to because they can't write songs, that is your business, but don't put down a guy who was the influence of the boring shit you listen to.
@floydgenesisnut if you have no patience to discover new music, how could you know if rock was dead or not? If you don't look for the good stuff you will never find it.
Lol Keith Moon knows how to tell a story. He puts a smile on my face listening to him. R.I.P. Keith Moon

R.I.P Keith Moon

I love his evil little laugh
thank god for keith keith is god legend
I think Bonzo might edge it on technical ability, but Keith was just a sheer joy to watch. He had more charisma than Bonham had hangovers
you said it man. this guys my absolute fucking hero!
Its weird to hear such crazy stories coming from such a posh and intelligent man!!!
Yeah, he mostly lead with the left foot. Although he did occasionally swap! As John Entwistle said, "Keith didn't know why he was so good"...amen to that!
Keith WENT FOR IT! How many of us can say that?
I saw this when it was first broadcast back in 1977. I haven't seen it in 35 years but it's pretty much the way I remembered it, almost word for word. I think this story is mostly corroborated by others who were there so there probably is a lot of truth to it.
I never expect him to have such a cultured-sounding voice, that combined with that mad gleam in his eyes always throws me off.
;D~
He was so great. Sadly missed forever.
What a legend, what more can you say.
Never get tired of this story
Classic moon, telling "fish stories"
one of the best drummers in the world
Legend. I never get sick of hearing this story.
i absolutely love this guy
Keith died when he was 32...imagine the storys he could tell in 2007 on TV?
Doctor Jekyll and mister Hide.
he genuenly scares me...he's just...scary...like manson, the killer
Didn't Keith have *TWO* beards in the mid to late '70s? One from late '75 to mid '76, and one from early to late '77? Correct me if I'm wrong.

He's just 'flamboyant' that way ;P

love it when he says 'waterbed surround' at 1:26 hilarious moon, love him.
He put that voice on,it wasnt his real accent.Think he played so many characters that in the end he forgot who the real keith moon was! There was something missing up top!
It's funny WHAT he says, but it's even funnier HOW he says it :D
Oh Keef
He's a showman, and his whole life was a performance. But, I miss him, anyway. Funny, talented guy.
he was amazing
I couldn't agree more!
Don't worry, I'm enjoying it. I just enjoy Moon trivia.
Oh please, stop with the "all music today sucks" rant.

Sean Strickland is our new Keith Moon.
Keith would use a double bass but would apparently play it backwards according to the guy on the Amazing Journey DVD.

Good Stuff and Rarity. Where did you find this? Do you now what year it is from? Please Respond !, Thanks !
Notice the way his accent changes from toff to geezer.. Nutted I tell thee..
Could anyone tell from which show and what year this fascinating excerpt is taken from?
brillant
even the posh accent is put on and the yanks lap it up
By the time this aired he had already burned up any genious his brain may have held. he was just the first incarnation of Axel Rose by this time.
He and Frank Zappa could be the best duo ever
It's a FACT that Keith also had the tendency to bullshit people and stretch the truth every now and again. He's obviously coked out of his mind here and I would tend to think he's having fun with these folks knowing they are gonna believe anything he says.
hey whats the best thing to use to upload tapes onto your computer?
He looks like Davy Jones in a way. He is fascinating to watch.
@CelegornP I think you are right. Much more tormented than is thought or portrayed.
@67675656565655656565
he had big drugs and alcohol problems and killed a friend in a car accident which made him feel guilty for the rest of his live. yeah great life..
Lol! Bonzo does triplets with only one double bass... Not saying anyone is better! They're all great!
brilliant!
he's a bloomin marvel. why oh why keith
does anyone know at all ...where this excerpt is taken from, and if there is more?! (obviously some US tv show)
also can someone upload keith moon interviewed by none other than the prince of glam himself, marc bolan, in 1976 for Thames television??
One of a kind.
The old "three in one" hotel room wrecking story...excellent. Spent his entire life creating stories for everyone else to recount. What a legend.

Which show was this? Who are the other guests?

So far he was a genius...
*hands up* dont worry your not the only one
When was this recorded?
Haha!! Who's idea was it to give Keith a waterbed?? Honestly! That's hillarious.
how do you post a comment on here? does anybody speak & write English fluently?
Bahahaha! Keith's so nuts! RIP dear boy!
It is a rather strange thing to know, but while I was reading it I was thinking to myself "I already know this shit."
dont you know who´s this guy? he´s Keith Moon, alias the Bellboy....the who first drummer....he always destroyed all the hotels.
Only one that got the water bed...... now thats a miracle!!!!!!
Isn't it funny how Moonie always put on that posh accent. Part of the persona I suppose.
@floydgenesisnut It died way before 1995.
Based on the beard, this was 1977, if i'm not mistaken.
@floydgenesisnut what about the 50s we cant forget Elvis and Cash
pretty sure he used double bass. I think he just used it in a way that it sounds like a single bass pedal.
very true
@floydgenesisnut if you have no patience to discover new music, how could you know if rock was dead or not? If you don't look for the good stuff you will never find it.
How the hell did that combination of people get together?
LMFAO thats why I got rid of mine too,its not good having all that water & weight on top floor of 2 story older house.
@tumadrexuxa Queen were rocking out in the 80's so thats not right
Who is everyone else in this video?
Indeed I do...but we do it with more style...its more allowable...
Who cares? It's a great story that, like Evelyn Waugh's "Too much explosive - a maths lesson from No. 3 Commando", is 'quite true'.
He didn't have a posh accent, it was a put on.
If only he were alive...
lol sux to be the bellboy at THAT hotel xD
Is not this Al Pacino??
neil peart fuckin rules!!!
