I have recently watched the first 2 episodes of season 2 but couldn't recognize the names of Prushka and the character meinya... So I searched about it and found this vid
The scene of her looking at her own body being taken apart with her sounding confused but happy absolutely fucking destroyed me the first time I watched this movie.
I absolutely hate him for doing that. She was his daughter. She loved him so much. Heck I haven't seen someone so sween natured in my life. To me, that scene was heartbreaking.
@@kriswho4223 The girls adopted father dissected her and turned her into a white whistle. I mean she did ask for it but I don’t think she meant literally. The guys autistic or something. If you are confused on what a white whistle is. It’s the last 1 minute of the video basically. That giant gooey red orb you see is the girl’s “stone”. Her stone is used to make a White Whistle. A White Whistle looks like a fancy, literal Whistle. The girl got turned into a magic Whistle.
The Abyss always takes something. From Prushka, her future. From Riku, her mother. From Bondrewd? From Bondrewd it took something truly profound. Bondrewd's ideals hinge upon the sacrifices made for progress. But he can no longer sacrifice anything. For he has nothing to give. The Abyss took his humanity so completely that he never even realized it was gone.
I think that scene showed how the spirit of a man will endure. Even when a man forsakes everything for greed, power or knowledge. But when he loses something he loves, no matter how far gone he is. When he loses that, his humanity is returned to him and he realizes the love he had for it. Whatever humanity Bondrewd had left at that moment came back to him when he realized that knowledge is temporary and will lead down a dark road
I think that's really on point, in fact the power he gained from his loss is that of enabling OTHERS to sacrifice themself for him, for an objective that he inevitably fails; altough in the end he doesn't even value his success, but only the fact that his black whistles, his children and her daughter happily gave their lives for progress as he would like to do
Acording to what Oozen said, Bondrewd was always an incorrigible person. I think that since the beginning, he was detached from the others around him and yet he understood that progress can not happen without collective effort. The thing is, when Bondrewd turned himself into a whistle, he put himself into a limbo of sorts... The only thing he ever had that he could sacrifice was himself, the only person that would sacrifice themselves for him was himself. He is alone although he has the company of many other copies of his consciousness. The Abyss gave him both blessings and curses, for he can't advance nor retreat.
I will never understand why the movie cut out some of the scenes from the manga that heavily imply that Prushka KNEW what Bondrewd was going to do to her and loved and prayed for him anyway. It adds a whole new layer of complexity to both of them.
Well she helped Bondrewd do to other kids her age what he did to Nanachi and many others so I'm pretty sure she must've guessed what would happen to her once she reached a certain age.
@@HS-ts5wf Yeah, exactly, and in the manga it’s heavily implied that this is exactly what happened. The anime makes it seem like she had no idea what he was planning the whole time which cuts out a really vital part of both Prushka and Bondrewd’s characters imho.
It's nice that nobody gave up on her. I love seeing a genuinely happy, curious soul making their way through an initially confusing world as they make sense of it in their own way. Such a sweet character she is, Prushka!
I always see Bondrewd as like an emotionless AI that would do anything for the sake of Knowledge.... But unlike any other like super AI from other shows like Ultron and etc, he might be emotionless but he understands the importance of Emotional Bond which is Love
We have villains who kill with hate - it's understandable. We have villains who kill with sadistic glee - it's scarier, but such crazies is not unheard of. We have villains who kill with no emotions at all - it's really f*cking terrifying, but recently that trope is getting a bit overused... And then we have Bondrewd, who kill with love. That's a whole new level of horror.
@@rhcpempire2278 actually it was stated that in order to deflect the curse and gain a blessing two people must love one another unconditionally to work, kinda like Mitty and Nanachi to some degree
There's something so wrong about bondrewd he never gets upset or even angry not even agitated it's as if he lost every single emotion in his body but happiness and takes Glee in everything he compliments the heroes as he fights and when he loses after obtaining the body he so desperately wanted he laughs it off I don't think I've ever seen this idea explored before a monster who can NEVER be anything but happy what would happen if someone could only be happy? No matter what you did you just felt great about it? I think bondrewd is a showcase of why you need negative emotions to balance your choices or as bondrewd seemingly demonstrates you have nothing to stop you from doing anything the only drive he seems to have left is knowledge
@@ryanzhu7269 yep he sacrifices literally everything for advancement, himself, his children, his humanity and his friends. He is the embodiment of sacrifice. Still I thinks hes still kinda a dick, I mean he's a mass murdering child slaughterer, even if it's for a good cause, I cannot condone that. Still though I can respect him as a scientist, he tested everything on himself first and has great ambition for the greater good. Still though if I met him I'd like to kick him in the balls a couple times, just cause I don't like him very much.
@@beev4289 It was real love, or else he wouldn't have became a narehate. The thing is that Bondrewd abandoned his morals for advancement, so it makes him look bad, but he genuinely cares and loves all his children as precious subjects for his experiments.
Meh, I find the more things try to be shocking like this is supposed to be the less impactful it gets. And then I go: 'Yeah, I was expecting you to do that with all the attention you drew to it like a red flag on a dancing clown in the middle of public."
I feel a lot of people misunderstand his ‘love’ for the children. One of the main reasons he makes himself care about them is because it can negate the curse of the Abyss, after discovering it from the Mitty and Nanachi experiment. He shows care for the children because when they love him back, only then can he sacrifice them into making the cartridges( you know when he stuff their organs into those small packages) so the curse is deflected away from Bondrewd and onto the child in the cartridge instead. It wouldn’t work otherwise. That is why Bondrewd is able to avoid the further loss of his humanity from ascending in the 6th layer and instead receive the Blessing of the Abyss. he put Prushka into a cartridge, knowing that her love and devotion to him would give him the Blessing if he tried to ascend. And lastly, him sacrificing children( and himself no less) for knowledge make it more akin to ‘love is a tool’, which is why( for me at least) it comes across as quite disingenuous. He doesn’t get angry and sad cause he doesn’t have really have much humanity left, and it wouldn’t help it terms of gaining more knowledge of the Abyss. It not twisted love, its not psychotic love, it’s just a means of getting more out of the abyss. And yes if he was nice before the the experiment, it would probably be because of him already sacrificing himself to make a white whistle(and probably a personality trait)
Reading this entire arc on the manga was terrible for my heart, but watching the movie was a totally cathartic experience. The animation, the music, the voice actors everything was so good, Ugly crying the entire time
Riko is an interesting character, like a daruma doll no matter how much u beat her down she always bounces back up. It's oorlly thanks to her that reg and nanachi are still mentally sane, both of them easily succumb to despair and having someone who can always bounce back from that can do a lot for you
@@celesiamigardine4903 That's a sweet way to put it. I know she gets a lot of flak because she's the one needing protecting a lot, but I also think Reg and Nanachi remain determined as they are because of her. Too bad many just refer to strength in the physical sense.
"A prayer cannot be born from one who knows only of joy." Whatever our papa was trying to tell us in here, I'll keep this quote to heart forever even until the time when I'll finally be able to form a proper prayer.
Maybe I'm wrong, but it reminds me of "Prayers are spoken more in hospital walls than churches." Basically most people pray coz they're in need of something. If you got a fulfilling/secured life (that gives you joy), you won't pray to thank the Gods.
She suffered the unimaginable pain of having her entire body stuffed in cartridge while she was still concious. I dont care if its for one second thats way too long. Its really hard to find any bright side to this story which is why i find it so odd anyone can take comfort in anything bondrewd did.
@@lukedraper2518 i know right she suffered a lot at the end like she explained all the pain she felt after loosing all the limbs and being stuck inside a case
There's something eerie and disturbing about bondrewd and I'm not talking about the terrible stuff he does *he's never upset* seriously we never see him mad or sad or even raise his voice no matter what is done to him OR the people around him he celebrates in happiness like every other emotion is just *gone* even when he loses the body he wanted he just is filled with glee it's chilling! It's like no matter what you do to him no matter what you do to everything around him he'll laugh it off and treat it like a victory his mind treats everything like a victory and in that aspect our characters can never *truly* hurt him..

Highly doubt it I Said the way him loving the children for the sake of gaining something from the abyss, I did not say if his love is disgenuine but the way he uses love is disingenuous, actually read. Literally this man made a system to raise each child to be a cartridge, giving them ‘hope’ in the last moment, and for Pruschka which he later quoted saying ‘’a prayer cannot be born for those who only knows joy’’ probably can be meant her going though hard time will likely be more grateful and love life and ‘’thank you for completing Pruscka’’ after the fight between Bondrew and Reg, which got her all more scared to lose Bondrew and showed deep love for him, enough that he actually recieved a blessing and became a Narehate like Nanachi, and you say he’s not utilising their love like a tool? Like really?
@Jastine Nah, YOU are the one misunderstanding. He did genuienly love and care for all the children. This is LITERALLY stated by the author himself. What is different is however that despite that he did, it didn't stop him from what he was doing. His morality is completely different and inhumane. That was makes him such a complex and interesting character. That he could genuinely love and care for his daughter so much yet do such horrible things to her. It's seemingly a paradox but not for Bondrewd's psyche, which really can't be related to anything. No sacrifice is too great. He even sacrificed himself to become a white whistle. You're trying to apply human based logic and morality on a being that is by nature completely inhumane. What is paradoxical and contradicting actions for us is not it for Bondrewd. That is your mistake

The soundtracks in this movie are cherry on top. Literally 10 out of 10. I love Kevin Penkins! Anime name: Made in Abyss: Dawn of the deep souls. Season 2 is coming next year!! 2022!
I don't think enough people are considering the element of Bondrewds fundamental knowledge of psychology, human nature and how it then affects the human body. If you have largely sad, depressed, damaged persons, then the results of the knowledge gained from a body riddled with depressive hormones is going to be rather stilted and onesided. I think the reason he showed them such "love, patience or affection" was for the best outcome of data.

@@vividly94 And that’s where you’re wrong, you’re applying the "normal" definition of love to Bondrewd. Bondrewd does love every single one of his children from the bottom of his heart, it’s just that his version of love is… abnormal. That’s why he’s such an interesting character. His love is genuine but twisted, his actions are kind but cruel, his ambitions are noble but despicable. He’s still a “bad guy" mind you and no one should look up to him, but he’s not just an egotistical one-dimensional bad guy villain.
Whether you love him or hate him, you can't deny that there has almost never been another antagonist that has sparked as much debate online as Bondrewd has. I've been reading so many comments and threads on Reddit and RUclips about the varying opinions everyone has of him, and I can understand and empathize with both side of the coin. The one and only sole opinion that I disagree with, and get triggered by, is the small group of idiots obviously not intellectual enough to understand his design and calls him _"basic"_ Like you can hate and disagree with the way he does things, you can even call him a monster and inhumane, but you can't label him basic. He is just such a complex character that one can't help but think about even after finishing the series and movie, I finished the movie recently about a month ago, but in the past 12 years or more since I've been introduced to anime in middle school, never have I been more obsessed with an antagonist even one month after I've finished catching up to the series. (prior to season 2) To quote an overused copypasta meme/comment, "Legally it's questionable, Morally it's disgusting, Personally I like it."
Based Bondrewd loved by both the people that disagree with him and the people that agree with him and haters gonna hate hes just going to keep experimenting. Also >obsessed with a character i feel you man, its been a year and i still remember his words and his voice. im legit so hyped to see him again in the manga, hes clearly more important than what this arc shows hes going to be returning to the spotlight in the future.
This man is anything but basic/ cookie cutter antagonist. His more interesting than most of MIA's characters combined. I'm never sure what his gonna pull next since he always sounds sincere and reasonable but his next move could be A SUDDEN STEP TOWARDS SCIENCE.
There's a reason why i really like bondrewd and why i am not recommending made in abyss Bondaddy is a complex character and probably the scariest. He has the same qualities as riko but taken into great Extremes. The reason why i am not recommending mia easily is because it can scar you easily.
Indeed.. bondrewd is not inherently evil, and he does love his children wholeheartedly, but at the same time, his thirst for knowledge knows infinite boundaries. Splitting his soul has messed him up quite a lot.. and I both hate and like him.. but he's not the one who's messed up, the hole is.. it's existence has caused great suffering for many, a price for knowledge and abilities, and it changes you, you'll be forever drawn towards it... @@misssunnysyu I agree with this person 100%. Made in Abyss really is a storytelling masterpiece (aside from those weird, sexual scenes that’s just a part of the weird Japanese fan service thing) and inspires me a lot with my own creativity. I have never cried over anything (at least, regarding a show or a book or movie) as hard as I cried when I watched Mitty’s fate. I think Mitty was so rough on me that I became slightly desensitized when Prushka came along. I still bawled my eyes out, though. And then the unequivocal happiness I felt in tandem, when I learned that Prushka was formed into a white whistle and would, in some shape, get to go on all the adventures she wanted in a vicarious but also present manner. I was happy and sad and angry all at the same time. Happy because Reg, Riku, and Nanachi were advancing down the Abyss, sad because Prushka was reduced to a container of flesh, and angry at Bondrewd despite his insanity not entirely not being his own fault. Nothing has ever made me feel that way before. I’ve watched both seasons of the Promised Neverland. I went into the first season not even reading a summary of it lol. I’m not a horror anime person at all, so I might not have even picked it up had I not failed to read up on it prior. I’m really happy I did, though. Its a gem in plot, mystery, and suspense. I wouldn’t even call is blatant horror, maybe just a thriller. It really blew me away as I watched the first 12 episodes. It made me feel a lot of emotions the first season. The second season didn’t make me feel much of anything and I think it’s a given as to why. The first season, despite is well-written nature, still didn’t make me feel half as chaotic as MIA did by the 4th episode lol. Not to say TPN isn’t/wasn’t good. It was freaking phenomenal. It just didn’t take me on a rollercoaster how MIA season 1 and the movie did. I know you didn’t ask me lol but i just wanted to throw in my two cents. Both are great, but MIA takes the cake for me because I like having my emotions played with whenever I’m reading or watching anything 😭😂 masochistic behavior now that I think about it
Truthfully, kids ARE very curious and the three of them ARE at the age where they’re probably curious about their bodies and possibly others’ bodies, but I still be a little flabbergasted lol
Its so good I honestly cant even. This story shows the degeneracy of human curiosity and rather than shaming it, it embraces it as part of humanity. They show this through Riko and Bondrewd.
In fact, the voice actor who played Meinya also appeared in Season 1. She played Ilim, one of the orphans Bondrewd took with Nanachi. The official name of Meinya is "Meinast ilim"... Meaning is a “child of change”.

Moral of Made In Abyss: The most adorable characters suffer a lot. (Mitty and Prushka physically and probably mentally, Nanachi mentally and probably physically (their Narehate transformation or feeling chronic or physical pain from a lot of trauma.) Reg had to kill Mitty so she wouldn’t suffer and he nearly got his organs swished about and was turned or turned into a creature that was being tested and tortured by Bondrewd and Riko nearly lost her arm and that must’ve hurt and now she lost Prushka. Whatever humanity Bondrewd had left at that moment came back to him when he realized that knowledge is temporary and will lead down a dark road
I think that's really on point, in fact the power he gained from his loss is that of enabling OTHERS to sacrifice themself for him, for an objective that he inevitably fails; altough in the end he doesn't even value his success, but only the fact that his black whistles, his children and her daughter happily gave their lives for progress as he would like to do
Also his drip is top notch
Acording to what Oozen said, Bondrewd was always an incorrigible person. I think that since the beginning, he was detached from the others around him and yet he understood that progress can not happen without collective effort. The thing is, when Bondrewd turned himself into a whistle, he put himself into a limbo of sorts... The only thing he ever had that he could sacrifice was himself, the only person that would sacrifice themselves for him was himself. He is alone although he has the company of many other copies of his consciousness. The Abyss gave him both blessings and curses, for he can't advance nor retreat.

Like really?
@Jastine Nah, YOU are the one misunderstanding. He did genuienly love and care for all the children. This is LITERALLY stated by the author himself. That was makes him such a complex and interesting character. That he could genuinely love and care for his daughter so much yet do such horrible things to her. The one and only sole opinion that I disagree with, and get triggered by, is the small group of idiots obviously not intellectual enough to understand his design and calls him _"basic"_
Like you can hate and disagree with the way he does things, you can even call him a monster and inhumane, but you can't label him basic. Indeed.. bondrewd is not inherently evil, and he does love his children wholeheartedly, but at the same time, his thirst for knowledge knows infinite boundaries. Splitting his soul has messed him up quite a lot.. and I both hate and like him.. but he's not the one who's messed up, the hole is.. it's existence has caused great suffering for many, a price for knowledge and abilities, and it changes you, you'll be forever drawn towards it... Even I am.. it's hell.. in many ways.

For me MIA is just a true master piece of madness mixed with happiness, the best anime of its catégorie, no anime can bring me this sense of feeling, go to sadness quickly and happiness…
Both are great, but MIA takes the cake for me because I like having my emotions played with whenever I’m reading or watching anything 😭😂 masochistic behavior now that I think about it
@Vivvia Amyntas It's not fanservice, tho, they are for comic relief, timelapse or depictions of how direct is nature and cruelty in that world.
Truthfully, kids ARE very curious and the three of them ARE at the age where they’re probably curious about their bodies and possibly others’ bodies, but I still be a little flabbergasted lol
@@vey5579 Well, at least little to nothing is shown and most of the sexually implicit scenes are only mentions or covered by something xd

He picked orphans who were only a burden to those around them, destined to die a pointless and meaningless death.
He then gave them all a childhood, even if brief; in where they could play, make friends, and grow.
The Abyss will take them all in the end, he knows that none of them are strong enough to survive the horrors that surround them all; so he will ensure that their lives and death will have meaning in furthering his knowledge so that others will suffer less, and perhaps save countless lives. As such he is proud and loves of all of his children: The Heroes of Mankind, and his children love him back because they got to experience life and love. Should his children grow and exceed his expectations he will feel nothing but joy and wonderment.
Bondrewd's heart is not heavy with the burdens of the pain that comes from the loss of love, and because of that he will never become cold and cynical; and that what makes him a monster:
He can love each new child as much as the last. That is his blessing, and his curse.

The thing that makes this extra sad is that Bondrewd and the Hands really cared a lot about Prushka.
As an experimental subject, Yes.
As a kid, not really.
From the beginning Prushka was just a means to an end for them.

It's just that, science is above all for Bondrewd, it's like if you make him choose between "to advance science" or 'phrushka' he will no doubt choose science. But remove science and he'll probably choose Prushka.
And also, for the blessing to be activated, both party have to have some kind of bond with each other, no? So, with whatever twisted, deranged love he's got for Phrushka, it's unmistakably still a form of love.

Bondrewd knew that love can overcome abyss curse from Nanachi and Mitty. So he went all the way to make Prushka love him and loved her in exchange just to get Abyss blessings. The fcked up thing is I can't hate Bondrewd despite him doing really gruesome thing.

Moral of Made In Abyss:
The most adorable characters suffer a lot.
It’s beautifully tragic….it’s not fair to see children suffer but it’s sad but beautiful it my opinion…. (I find this interesting but I feel awful for Bondrewd’s victims and anyone who didn’t deserve to suffer in general who’s suffered.) but nobody….is safe….I find the Abyss beautiful but it can be terrifying.
Makes you think. If Bondrew valued his humanity (capacity for love, empathy, etc.) Above all else in order to sacrifice it, yet he is still able to create the facimally capable of healing Prushka's very being and earning her unconditional love in return... The man must have been a genuine saint before his journey!
I always expected to her to become a bell, something really awful was going to happen and the bell had all logic to its mistirius backstory
So heart breaking though
