    A tip I learned the hard way with washing drinking glasses. I used to put my hand inside glasses to clean them until I had one break. I had a very sharp ring of broken glass around my hand. Now I have a plastic wand with a cylindrical cellulose sponge that has a circular scotch bright on the end for cleaning drinking glasses.

    • @UnsightlyOpinions

      Oh my! I can’t imagine having a glass break around my wrist. That would be stressful getting off!

    • @soaringeagle5418

      @@UnsightlyOpinions I had to wrap the broken edges in heavy cloth and go to the hospital to have it removed. The doctor didn't have the right tools. It took a paramedic that had been an Army medic to get it off. I could see then. I can't imagine the nightmare it would have been if I had been blind and alone at the time.

    Thank you for making these videos. I've been exploring accessibility and chronic illness spaces in the last few years, having realized I love so many of the people here and they make me feel more whole and included than i ever have in my ife.
    Getting advice from a well-practiced hand turns all of this into an exchange of life-enhancing tips.

    I didn't know that certain dishes feel better than others until I lost some vision. I tossed all plates out and started using paper for about a year. I gave up that idea and bought some square 9" Corelle ware. I fell in love with the feel of these plates lol. Do you have a favorite dish? I also use my feet as a guide where I start is one foot and where stop is the other foot. I move side ways to re position my feet.

      Good tip! I have these really cool plates that have a raised swirly design along the edge. I love how tactile the design is. I’ve never seen other plates like it and I got them 2nd hand from a friend so the low cost was an additional bonus. :)

      Haha exactly 1027 no more no less! :P I am diligent with cleaning for sure. I can’t say it’s perfectly clean every day, but I do try to at least tidy every day so I can keep things where I can find them again. We do delegate some chores to each other but it’s more typical for me to do most of the cleaning/tidying and him to do more of the laundry and snow removal.

    • @UnsightlyOpinions
      @UnsightlyOpinions  Год назад +3

      I'd be happy to, but for the most part, I immediately put garbage in the bin and don't set something down until it's in its proper home. As for dust on the floor/sweeping I sweep toward myself and make the pile between my feet to keep track of it. Then I get on the floor and sweep into the dust pan.

    I am a sighted person, however I am seeking insight and understanding from those who are visually impaired or are blind to develop products to help with the day-to-day life of those who are not fully sighted. Would rectangular double-sided stickers of roughly 3 by 3 centimetres with different tactile fabrics or textures on the top of the stickers to aid in tactile identification of different items be a helpful product?

      I have very poor joints and blood pressure. Standing for any length of time either makes me dislocate a hip or faint, which is no fun. I've broken many a dish not sitting down. So that's why I do it. :)

    I do like the small scrub brush, but it seems like it misses stuff over using a sponge. Your thoughts?

    • @UnsightlyOpinions
      @UnsightlyOpinions  Год назад

      It depends on what I am cleaning. I have both. I will always check with my fingers after I scrubbed something to see if it’s clean. I find the abrasive sponge tends to wear the finish off of certain things. I find the plastic bristled brush does not. So it’s a matter of preference, I think :-)
