RPG's, I loved today's tour. My town is 80 years old, today I had lunch with some of it's founders who were children when their parents set it up. It is for this reason that I love hearing the history of Prague. I love that the New Town is from the 1300's.

That was fantastic. I spent 6 years walking across Karlovo náměstí when I studied in Prague in the 1990's. I wish I had known all of that history then. I had Czech lessons in Faustův Dům and many coffees in the cukrárna in Václavská Pasaž. I walked across the square last month on a quick visit to Prague and it hasn't changed much. Thank you.

I was there teaching a comedy writing class at Czesky Krumlov last year and only had a chance to explore Prague for the weekend in between my two week course, so had a wonderful but too short time there. @@RealPragueGuides Do you actually know when the Lucerna paternoster to the roof terrace will be open again? It was one of my most favorite places to stay during summer visits, but closed for a few seasons now for rennovation.
The tower, city hall and church are one of my favorite places around town, not crowded. But do confirm when taking tram from that place in the evening was giving wires vibes. Also interesting thing- even going home around 21, not much people in the public transport in Prague ….in my home country always packed even at night.

Hi Valery, what is Praha like for ceoliacs? I’m keen to bring my family next year, but none of the Czech food I know and like doesn’t seem to be gluten free. I’m sure ceoliacs go to Czech, so wondering if you have any insights?
Fun fact, the First Prague Defenestration was actually not the first historically significant defenestration in Czech history, just a year prior in July of 1418 the so-called Wrocław Defenestration took place, a revolt of lower mostly Polish-speaking classes against the German city council.

New town hall founded in 1377. If that’s new what is considered old in Prague? That says a lot about people who appreciate preserving history, and it’s why I always prefer places with character than modern cities.

OK, since you begged me to tell you my Prague story, I'll tell you...About twenty years ago, I was traveling through Europe, and decided for the first time to sample Eastern Europe by going to Prague. I was a little leery, as far as safety went, so I picked out a brand new American hotel to stay in. Now, at that time, for unknown reasons, right before going to sleep at night, I would place my phone, my laptop and all my electronic gear on the right side of the bed next to me. As such, as I was slowly waking up the next morning, my hand automatically reached out to feel that gear--a kind of instinctive double-check that everything was OK. Well, my hand found nothing, fumbling around until I was more alert, at which point I noticed that the cord on the telephone on the night table right next to my head had been cut. Yes, thieves had not only broken into my room and stolen all of my gear (probably giving a cut to the hotel), but used a knife right next to my sleeping head to cut the phone cord. I complained to the hotel staff, eventually finding myself in an old police station, where, after filling out relevant forms, I was told by the old, Soviet era station chief, in between puffs of unfiltered Russian cigarettes, to "Seet down..." Mm. Figuring correctly that I would never get anything out of either the hotel or the police (who probably also got kickbacks from the local thieves--those Russian cigarettes are expensive!), I exited stage left, booked a flight the hell out of there, and decided I should consider it a win, considering that that phone cord was the only thing that had been cut as I slept.
Strange. None here like russian cigarettes.
