      You mean during the WW2 and then when bloody communists took over and started stealing and murdering and imprisoning free-minded people including war heroes? Halting any real development of the country for 40 years. Thak you, but no thank you. My grand parents lived through that era, they easily could have been on those shots living literally hundreds meters from Vodičkova street.

    And btw, Pražská YMKA (6:28) means Prague Y.M.C.A.

    I was born and raised in Prague and sometimes I dream about seeing the city during those times. They were hard times, but we also have our challenges. We may be blessed enough not to have war, but the spark of the city is largely gone with capitalism and excess tourism, all the McDonald's, Starubcks, Primarks and other shit that noone really needs. We are so disconnected from all the beauty that Prague once was. But with that being said, it still remains one of the most beautiful, as well as one of the most green cities in all of Europe. Thank you for this beautiful video.

    The rooftops should be most if not all red, the statues on the Charles bridge are made out of sandstone (except a Jesus on the cross) so they'll be either black or greyish, same with the lamposts I don't think they would have any other color than dark green or black.

    Prague was liberated by American troops along with most of present day Czech Republic in World War II. But the Allies cut a deal with Stalin that divided up Europe between the Western Allies and the Communists. The US abandoned Prague and Czechoslovakia to the Soviets in return for the Soviets giving up Vienna and the chunk of eastern Austria which the Red Army had captured in the war. So Austria went into the Western bloc, and Czechoslovakia ended up in the Communist Soviet bloc until the Soviet Union collapsed in late 1991, after which it of course Czechoslovakia became a Western democratic nation again, and peacefully divided itself into the Czech Republic and Slovakia since the two halves are two totally different peoples and culture and didn't want to continue stuck with each other under one government.
    Also interesting is the statue of Jesus starting at 1:17. He is surrounded by Hebrew inscriptions which I'm sure had to be placed AFTER the Nazis were gone. I don't think the Nazis would ever have allowed Hebrew to be on display under their occupation. I can't make out most of the Hebrew and I'm not fluent, but over Jesus is the word Ha Rosh which literally means The Head (I guess alluding to the King?) though King in Hebrew is normally Melech.

      Prague was liberated by the insurgents (that negotiated surrender and withdrawal of Germans) assited by Bunyachenkos ROA and later by the Red Army that cleared pockets of SS troops that refused the capitulation.
      Most of Czechia was liberated by Soviets, Romanians and Poles due to Spheres of influence agreed at Yalta conference.
      Americans had to stop at Karlovy Vary - Plzeň - České Budějovice demarcation line, even though they could have been to Prague faster.
      I have heard about two American POWs that assited the insurgensts in negotiating with Germans, and read about small reckon unit that passed through Prague (Alans War by Emmanuel Guibert - comics about Alan Ingram Cope war experience).

    • @DusanPavlicek78
      @DusanPavlicek78 25 дней назад +6

      This is not accurate. The American troops coming from the West had to stop at Plzeň (Pilsen) and never reached Prague. The Soviet Red Army insisted that it has to be them who will "liberate" Prague. That's why we then had to suffer 40+ years of Soviet occupation until the Velvet Revolution in 1989.
