I used a 16mm wide angle lens on a star tracker with 2min exposure times... Each sub the comet is well defined... Just need to stack and process them... Looks nice next to our spiral arm.... 😊
It is often possible to use manual focus directly on a bright start or planet (with the view zoomed in to get an accurate adjustment). The planet Venus will be close to the comet in the western sky and would be a good candidate for use as a focus target.
Thank you so much, having Venus there will make things a lot more simple with trying to nail Focus, can't wait to get out and take some pictures from New York
I went out at 8:15 CDT and located the comet with 12x binoculars. Then I looked at it without binoculars and indeed it is visible with the naked eye here in Texas at a dark sky site!
Hi Rafael, just to let you know, I have already seen an early morning time lapse of the comet taken with a wide angle lens and it was visible. I don’t know how they shot it (i.e settings etc) but I think a wide angle lens will work although the comet will look very small in the frame 😃
Someone in one of my fb groups posted his photo of it and he used a 70-200mm lens at ISO 2500. I didn't see what exact focal length he used though. I think he used a star tracker. It might have been in my star tracker group.
I set my camera up (on the tripod) with a canon 100-500 zoom lens. I set my aperture as you suggested & still cannot focus . It continues to be out of focus. Help!
I will have a chance to see the comet tonight at sunset. The comet will be at 12 degrees at sunset and 5 degrees 30 minutes after. What is the best vantage point to get a great photo: Ground-level farmland 40 minutes outside of the city - less light pollution but I'm worried about the comet being so low on the horizon 8-story parking garage that faces west but is downtown -- unobstructed view of the horizon... but light pollution. I have a CLS filter I could use if it would help HELP!
How many degrees are the horziontal lines in photopill app argumented reality ? So i can see how many degrees over the horizon the first line is and the second line etc.
Great video, as usual, thanks Rafael. Just one question: would the tracker work with a comet? I’ve a mechanical one (omegon lx3) and my understanding Elsa’s that it could only efficiently track stars - for example it doesn’t work well with the moon. If that’s the cslase, how can track a comet, much nearer and quick? And in case possible, what’s the man time you suggest for both wide and tele lens? Thanks in advance!
The tracker is used to keep the stars sharp and increase the exposure time in order to get as much detail as possible, while using a telephoto lens (otherwise you would be left with 0.5-1” shutter speed). The comet is a moving object so even if you use a tracker it won’t stay sharp forever, that’s why you have to try different shutter speeds (depends on your lens) and see how far you can push it whilst keeping it sharp.
i would expect the location via the app just likes persiedes, the rest of the info is just average for folks who shoots in the night .. like intervalometer, etc ..
Shoot me. I would love to love this channel, but no matter how many times I've tried, I cannot get used to the accent of this guy. It takes me more effort to understand him than he is putting into speaking. The app is absolutely stellar, though.

Thank you so much! PhotoPills always comes through for us to get amazing shots!

@@PhotoPills it worked perfectly! Thank you for the advice!

Sweet!
Advice to subscribers: Play the videos at 0.75x speed. You'll realise they're indeed in English and you'll get to understand everything! 😊
Holy shit, that works!👍😀
haha, that really does work. fantastic, I was looking for subtitles
How do you do that?

Excellent. Thanks so much! ❤ the ‘Pils.
Thank you!
Great, informative video! I didn't think of using my tracker, but now I will - thanks Rafa 😊
Thank you!!
great tutorial Rafael :)
Thank you Lee!
Great tips, thank you
Thanks so much!
Merci beaucoup bon ciel !

Cool cool!
how wide is your lens?
@@r24044i have a 12-24 f2.8 which was ideal for landscape photography and also astrophotography.
I really miss @AlynWallace 💔
We all do!
Rafa good Morning!Do you think to add to app a feature to find comets with names like meteors menu?
I need it!
I will try later here in the Philippines! Too bad our weather here is not cooperating 😅 clear skies everyone!
Plan & Pray!
Thanks for the video Rafa. Unfortunately, cloudy again in Belgium. This is not the best country for astronomy photography 😞
Come to Spain Benny!

I was able to get the comet with a wide angle lens last night, 15-35mm
so cool!
Could we use PhotoPills with nightAR to plan where to see the comet. I can't find it in the app.
Hi Gianluigi! the comet is not in the app. But we're working to include comets in 2025 :)
@@PhotoPills Thank you! Any link usefull to find it?

How shall i focus the lence? Do i focus on a star in the sky or sum?
Yes! Focusing on a Star should work. But you could also focus on the comet!

Yes! but you need to test different shutter speeds :)
Why take 15-20 photos for a telephoto image of the tail? How are you merging them for detail of the tail?
Staking!
@@PhotoPills focus stacking? Or another method? Specifically please :) thanks!
@emitata you stack your photos in a program like starry stacker to reduce noise if I remember correctly
@@daveabernathey thanks, so it has an auto noise reduction stacking mode? I would love a tutorial on this if anyone can link me! @photopills
@emitata just do a Google search and click on videos and you'll find some

Thanks for the feedback!
Bonjour , serait il possible d'avoir la vidéo en français ? merci

Sorry, I know the general direction it’s rising, but that wasn’t very useful in trying to plan where it aligns with terrestrial landmarks.
