the oldest hindu temple in india is 1500 years old.. if a temple is said to be more than 1500 years then it should be a jain or a buddhist temple which was demolished and built as a hindu temple over it.. clear history records say tamil nadu alone has hundreds of such temples which were jain buddhist temples that were demolished during the pallava and pandya rule and hindu temples were built over it..sanskrit didnt have any script until the 5th century.. where as prakrit pali and tamil used brahmi way back 600 bc.. 8000 jains were killed in madurai by the pandya king during the 7th century on the behest of the shaivites.. hindu religion is just 300 years older than the islam in india.. together with islam, hindus white washed jainism and buddhism out of india.. romila thappar is correct in saying vedic brahmic hinduism were just tribal who inter mingled with other indigenous religions that were born in various part of india
