    So it's like a compression sock made specifically for your nubbin? That's pretty awesome! Would a normal compression sock also work, or are they different in that regard?

      i shrinker is a little like a compression sock but with less pressure i use both to keep my stub from getting to where i can't put on my leg

    • @hot_wheelz
      @hot_wheelz Год назад +106

      Not to mention that a compression sock is a different shape compared to a shrinker, yes they are both a type of pressure garment but one is designed to fit a foot and lower leg (often upto just below the knee) and the other is designed to fit a stub post amputation (or as Jo puts it in such a lovely way a nubbin'). So no, a normal compression sock will not work as well as a shrinker for this use case as correct fitment is everything when it comes to the correct functioning of any pressure / compression garment.

      My surgeon told me that this operation is essentially, an amputation. They cut through all the muscle, bone, and fascia, then take your entire knee, cut if off, and toss it in the nearest trash can. That's why the pain is so excruciating. A total hip replacement is a piece of cake compared to this procedure. It took me an ENTIRE YEAR to regain what I'd lost, and it never worked even half as well. A knee replacement is like getting a wooden leg, except it's on the INSIDE. If you think that this operation is a walk in the park, I suggest you get one for yourself, Dr. Kildare.
      P.S. If your knee replacement is unsuccessful, the only other option is an ABOVE THE KNEE AMPUTATION. Do your research before you start acting stupid on your parent's computer.

    I just want to say thank you for your no nonsense delivery of information. For some , we have questions but may be unsure of how to ask for fear of disrespecting or offending. You have helped smooth over a taboo situation, which also helps decrease fear. Thank you again! Btw, do you mind if i asked what happened that resulted in the loss of your leg?

    I really appreciate learning about all the things you have to deal with as an amputee, it's very eye opening and generally very interesting. I wonder how much different it is to someone who was BORN without their leg/lower leg, though that's much rarer I suppose.

It's cool to learn new things thank you for the information it's really nice to hear things that I'd never ask about due to being too scared of being too personal. Hope you get back to walking and doing more activities again soon.

    Reminds me of my father. I used to launder his stump socks. I'm a strong person and he loved the way I was able to stretch them out. Same exact amputation spot.

    Sounds similar to my compression socks.
    I can feel the swelling when I'm upright without mine. Almost like feeling the blood drip.
