Wow! I'm actually super impressed. I haven't tried them yet myself but the demonstration you did was really lovely. I am sorry to hear the paper didn't take layers well because it looks like it has a beautiful texture!
Rip to the people in Pennsylvania 😔✊ But I think I might ask for these paints for Christmas. I currently have a koi set but I really don’t like how chalky those paints get
Roe Late but I don’t recommend the cotman set. In my experience, they weren’t very pigmented and was difficult to reactivate/get pigment out of, especially the cooler colors like blue and purple (which I use a lot) If you do have the, though, try spraying the pans with water before painting

@@anhhuynhkimnguyen6793 That probably means Winsor and Newton's cotman paints rant very consistently produced, because my own worked very well. And I don't recall there being a purple in the set so you might be mistaken? Anyways, I'd suggest any paint or paint set by a fairly well known brand. I started off with daler and rowneys simply watercolor set and a cotman. To each their own so research, research, research haha!
Oh my god! I’ve never seen someone actually review these paints! These are my favorite watercolors that I’ve tried (other then my Cotman set) and they’re so unknown! It’s not fair lol. I wish the swatch paper was in English but that’s like my only complaint lol, and I guess I can’t be very mad at a free swatch paper. I haven’t tried their brush or paper but the paints are awesome. I originally got there smaller set, but I think I’m going to get the larger one.
OH MY GOONESS!! my lil brother is *exactly* like your daughter! he in the middle of the day comes up to me and talks abt his dreams that basically make *no* sense at all 😂😂 his last dream was about a whale terrorizing a home on the beach!
I was very happy with my set I've been playing with it for a few months. The pigments in this 24 set are really nice, quality lightfast ones appropriate for professional artists. I love their glitter mica set too, but so far I've had some of those colors fade, so I'll be mostly using them for craft projects that don't need to be lightfast. I love how all of their paints perform. The box and packaging was nicely made too, think it would be a great gift!
I just got these recently and I LOVE them! And by the way, I adored listening to your sweet girl tell you her dream. Oh my goodness so cute. Thank you for including her!
Nothing is crazier than the dreams you have when you're sick! Thanks for the review. I'd never heard of this company until very recently and I'm glad to see a review of their products.
The packaging is super cute! I like your assessment of this set because your reasoning is pretty sound. And I really appreciate that you showed us the differences between how they functioned on other paper. Those half pans look super similar to some generic ones I buy on amazon sometimes so they’re a familiar shape for me!
Oh my gosh, I love what you made with these. I've been interested in trying a quill brush for a while, would you recommend a synthetic over a real-hair brush?
I personally prefer real hair brushes. They tend to hold more water and often times the point is made by the natural tapering of the hairs instead of being cut to a point shape. I've heard really good things about some Escoda synthetic quills though.
I use Raphael's soft aqua quill brushes which are made from a synthetic hair that's supposed to mimic squirrel hair & honestly I can't tell the difference between their synthetic squirrel & a real hair brush
Beautiful work. And I love the review. So informative! They look like really great paints. I enjoyed the inclusion of your daughter's explanation of her dream. And the details of them being in "Pennsylvania". I have a few kids myself, and those little "interruptions" while art-making are a part of life I am learning to cherish. ;)
Abigail A ... Lindsay, the Frugal Crafter has also done a recent and comparative review of these pink palette Paul Rubens and the blue/green tin - Painters Express or Excite - ahh can't remember their name! But they are made by the same company, are also eastern style paints, the blue tin is cheaper, no pigment info, have more colours, though they are very comparable, but they would be considered the student quality vs the artist quality of Paul Rubens pink palette. Depends on budget and purpose and the packaging of Paul Rubens is also top notch, luxurious and perfect for gift - yay, I've been hoping for reviews of this almost unheard of paint for ages because, while still relatively pricey, compared to other artist (or even high end student grade), they are great value for money
By listening to her, she sounds like she has a good head on her shoulders. Sounds like mom and dad are raising her right. God bless her, hope she feels better.
I bought this exact set after watching this review-not too impressed but I will say the bright colors are BRIGHT and pigmented-some of them dry kind of chalky and like there is a scratchy residue left on the paper though. Ended up buying a diff set after because I couldn’t find this palette to be for me, but I’m happy to see that arleebean enjoyed it and made a cute piece! And like arleebean said! This would be great for beginners or people without much paint or even people who just love buying and trying all kinds of paint 🥰
I know... I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but I really for a min thought 'PEE-WEE has an art supply line???!' 😲😲😱 Very nice and I super LOVE the pink case !!
Thank you for the demo. I bought the 12 color travel set as a starter set to try watercolor. If I like watercolor and color blending, I may save up to get premium quality watercolor pigments later.
Is great that you didn't cutted off your dautger's "irruption" from the video. About this watercolors, they look great. Maybe not the best ever but for that price segment maybe they do are the best ever.
I used to have nightmares about dinosaurs too! But I made myself start making sure they were herbivores so we didn't have to be afraid :) they just munched trees and were pretty chill. (Also in Pennsylvania :D)
My only question is do they come with single tube refills? The main reason I use Windsor and Newton Cotman is because it’s readily available at my local art store and you can replace singular colors. Can I get singular tubes online at least?
They are working on it. This pan set is a new import product and has been just recently introduced to Amazon for the USA market. They have been available in Asia for a lot longer and they already have the tube sets too in addition to pans. It looks like its just a matter of time, as the product already exists.
arleebean ... yes, Lindsay The Frugal Crafter has also just done a review of these too, and apparently all the colours and tubes are in China but word is out that they'll be coming to US (& hopefully Aussie!!). Fantastic to finally see reviews of these paints! Couldn't find any when I got them. Thank you :)
There's something off about these paints to me but I can't quite figure it out. I like them for my travel stuff but not for my typical works. But I do love the paper, it works well for me, it's become an obsession almost. I have three watercolor blocks and just finished their midsized sketchbook.
I wanted to hear more about your daughters series of dreams 😂... absolutely love this painting. It distracted me from your review actually (which I think is a compliment). I will have to look at buying those water colours :)
for something that's between $30-$50 that's seriously a really pigmented watercolor, thanks so much for the review they sell them locally here in indonesia but i never heard of them before ahahaha
Would you recommend these more than the w&n? I have 45 colors of the w&n but these colors look so beautiful and easy to travel with. I don’t know if I’m just being crazy because I could mix the w&n colors to get them these shades.
If you mean Winsor & Netwon's Cotman set, I'd say that I like these Paul Rubens paints better than those. I can totally understand your struggle though! It can be hard to invest in something new when you already have a lot of a particular brand.
Hi, stroke with more color and less water away from previous color, when you want to gradient, to avoid unnecessary lining between the washes. You can do it while making swatches, but seem to forget the principle when applying on complicated form.
How do you keep your paper flat? I can never figure it out. I bought the appropriate watercolor paper with the 638gsm and the 300lb but it doesn’t help. Do you think it could be the brand? If so, do you have any recommendations?
Personally I tape mine down to a piece of plywood :)) but I'm getting my adjustable table top drawing easel in month or two from a local carpenter so I'll be taping my work down to that
I think why the paper couldn't handle multiple layers well because it could be made for chinese painting technique which doesn't use a lot of water and layers 🤔 Tho the piece came out really nice and I am thinking of buy the 12 set one.
