I love Kentucky Kingdom's one-two punch of Lightning Run and Storm Chaser. Storm Chaser is a bucking bull trying to throw you off. Kentucky Kingdom's location is great. King's Island is about an hour north and Holiday World is slightly over an hour west. It's three amazing parks in two days and you get a night to enjoy scenery in downtown Cincy or Louisville.
I’ve never been to Wild Adventures, but I think it’s such a shame that Herschend got rid of Cheetah. They took away the one special thing that park had.
My favorite roller coaster from Herschend is Lightning Rod, followed by Storm Chaser, Big Bear Mountain, Thunderhead, Lightning Run, Wild Eagle, Thunder Run, Firechaser Express, Tennessee Tornado, Dragonflier, Kentucky Flyer, Blazing Fury, and Mystery Mine. I've only been to Dollywood and Kentucky Kingdom so far, but I have got to visit the other two now.
Definitely agree with the top 3. And I also agree that Lightning Rod is still king and that the modifications (thus far) have not made it obsolete or given other coasters the opportunity to dethrone it.
@@oregoncoasterenthusiast8564 cool. By the way, I grew up in Oregon and I love the place. That said, there's a decent chance that you and I have a similar complaint about the state (based on what your channel name and the video we both watched): It DESPERATELY needs a more serious large scale theme park.
@@zacg_ Haha yeah, I have lived here my whole life. I'm from the Salem area. And definitely, even if Seattle had a park similar in size to a place on par with something like Worlds of Fun or CGA, I would make the near 4 hour drive there every year. The best in the northwest by far is Silverwood, which is 7 hours from me and I enjoy it but only go every 2-3 years maybe.
Cheetah was a bit of a rough ride in 2019, but the airtime was solid. It was a good layout. I have it ranked probably around the area of Viking Voyage/Wildfire/Mystery Mine. I have Twisted Typhoon only slightly ahead of T3. I'd have to look back at my rankings spreadsheet to see specifically where I have everything.
When I get to Wild Adventures in the next 2 months or so I expect Twisted Typhoon to be MUCH BETTER than T3. The bar is pretty low. I'm pretty sure it will be cleared....
@@alantrotter2077 I may not be the best judge, considering I found T3 to be fairly smooth. Twisted Typhoon was even smoother on my one day 5 years ago. Last summer, the one at Michigans Adventure was far rougher than both.
See, lightning rod WOULD. Have been my favorite, if it wasn’t closed all 4 days I was at dollywood, and then opened the day after for 15 mins and rolled back, and then closed. Then opened the NEXT day and actually stayed open. Still pissed about it.

When I rode lrod in 2020 it was my number one. It has gone down two spots as I rode more coasters and it should be lower but those rides were so good but I’m rly interested to see how it rides next year without the launch
I’m hoping the adjustment to the lift hill will make Lightning Rod more reliable. I don’t care if HFE has RMC Ibox the entire ride. Just keep it running!
I've been to all four Herschend Parks and have ridden a majority of their current coasters (though I visited Kentucky Kingdom a year before they opened Kentucky Flyer). @@CanobieCoaster Lightning Rod was originally at the top spot on my list, but my rerides this year felt especially neutered compared to my original rides in 2018 and 2019. Just did not feel the same :/
Having been to Wild Adventures, here's my takes on each of their current coasters: Boomerang- easily the best coaster in the park, and one of the smoothest boomerang's I've done. A couple awkward jolts on the spikes, but that's it. Swamp Thing- didn't ride as rough as the other older Vekoma SFCs. Enjoyed the addition of having an alligator exhibit under the track. Not a great ride, but not too awful. Outpost Express- standard Vekoma roller skater. Smooth, fun, but not too thrilling. Twisted Typhoon- if you ride this towards the back of the train, it isn't too bad for an SLC. But if you ride it towards the front... expect something on the levels of Flight Deck. Swampwater Snake- unironically better than the larger wild mouse in the park. Marsh Mayhem- piece of garbage. Zero padding in the cars or on the restraints. The laterals are normal in the first half, but every set of brakes after that hit HARD. Easily the worst wild mouse I have ever done.
@@CanobieCoaster I hope they will get something original sooner rather than later. It's technically my home park since I'm in northern Florida. It's a hidden gem with a nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and some solid food. Just needs to work on updating the ride lineup
I disagree with giving mention to coasters that were relocated within Six Flags that had a stint at Kentucky Kingdom. They came and left long before Herschend, thus they reflect Herschend's coasters about as well as anything at...well, Darien Lake since that's a current Six Flags park with all of its coasters having been added by Six Flags except Tantrum. As for the rankings themselves I'm still missing Lightning Rod and while I think Outlaw Run is overrated (note: light trains due to low crouds, December) it does provide an awesome night ride. Given what's happening with Lightning Rod I'd likely put Storm Chaser at #1, Outlaw Run #2, and Lightning Rod #3.
Swap Lightning Rod and Outlaw Run and its my list. I think Outlaw Run uses the terrain better than Lightning Rod and I love the fact that its a wood coaster
We have the same top 6 in the same order. All 6 are quite good. I have Tennessee Tornado as my #7 right ahead of Powder Keg. T3 is the worst coaster I've ever rode and the closest thing to it is Condor at Walibi Holland. I'm not sad to see T3 go.
Based on how careful Herschend is when it comes to guest expeirence, I can't imagine that T3 stays open much longer. It really doesn't fit in in with the typical commitment to quality.
Lightning Rod has fallen a long way (let me preface this by saying I've never ridden it, I've only been an enthusiast for less than two years!). But I think it needs a full overhaul, to give it the magic it lost. RMC should come in and add some height to it so it can navigate the track better, because with the lighter trains I don't think any of the moments will be as good as before.

Depending how fast the chain lift goes, it's possible it regains some speed. It currently crests the top super slowly.
