I missed out on the AES10b's when they were $499. Not because I didn't have the money, but because there were other things I wanted more. Big mistake. Since then, if it's an import AK and I want it, I buy when they first hit the market. They rarely if ever get cheaper and they can be permanently gone in a flash.
I personally had a problem with K-Var when I ordered a AKS74U 'krink' barrel that was marketed as such . It was a high price but the description said in was a genuine 'krink' barrel on the website. Unfortunately when I received the barrel I found out it was just a cut down full length barrel with the wrong aks74u twist rate and shitty crown. Come to find out that guns that are built with these "genuine barrels" keyhole severely! I just checked and it seems that they changed the description and now list the twist rate. I have not bought anything from K-Var since as I don't trust them and feel slightly cheated. Just thought I would share MY experience. Thanks for the video.
Could be different, but; many people cut their 16 inch barrel down to krink size on their SLR104-URs and have it crowned and have no issues with key-holing. I agree that their description seems pretty misleading.
Nope, not the wrong twist; the original/earlier twist. In the beginning Russia gave thw AKS74U the same twist as the AK74, and this was what Bulgaria copied. Later, Russia went to a (very) slightly faster twist to better stabilize bullets in the cold but Bulgaria did not introduce this change. It kept with the original, slightly slower twist; before just dropping 5.45x39 as a caliber altogether in the mid/late '90s. Now as to the barrel you receiving being a cutdown, that's all kinds of messed up. The AKS74U barrel has a totally different profile and different gas port location compared with an AK74 barrel. So you can't just take a standard 16.25" barrel and cut it down to 8.25"; totally wouldn't work for sure.
Both Jay and I did this, and nope, no keyholing. One thing to, there are different bullet weights in 5.45x39 cartridges. I've noticed some keyhole while others do not. For example, Romania used a different twist for a different weight of bullet, so if you shoot say RAS ammo out of a Russian or Bulgarian gun, it is more likely to keyhole than if you shoot surplus 7n6 or even Wolf commercial. Just think of it like 55g & 1/12 vs 62g & 1/7 twist with our NATO weapons.
Interesting. Thanks for the reply! I thought I read several people on the ‘files’ were experiencing key holing. I bought that barrel well over a year ago and never built it on my Tula kit. I sold it and built on an akbuilder barrel instead.
Nope, you read several people speculating that it 'would' keyhole....funnily enough once people started shooting, such talk mostly died down. MAC even did a debunking video about this awhile back. Just the net trying to make something a problem before actually doing realworld testing. Theorey is great but has to be prooven later. By the way, i have 2 AKS74U 8.3" barrels from K-Var in my parts bin. Both are fine, no issues. I grabbed them during a weekend sale some time or other. Figured it couldn't hurt to have them around for a future build or as replacement parts *shrug*.
When I turned 18, the 1989 ban was already in place, so I couldn't get in on all those cool 1980s guns....at least not without paying inflated prices. So i paid those inflated prices. What choice did I have?
I got a few things I would like to add. Part of the reason why people are paying over 700 hundred for a wasr-10 is because their is no real alternative all that's left for 500-600 hundred dollar aks are American made aks with questionable to down right dangerous quality control. The cheapest import of decent quality people can easily get right now would be the 700 wasr. If by some mericle the Chinese aks were allowed to come in they would cost around 500 dollars. Everyone would be buying them instead of the 700 dollar wasr-10. Also I would like to make a argument for the people who didnt buy the slr-104fr and vepr when they were at the lowest price, some people just did not have the money to buy them at the time due to life circumstances but now they do have the money to buy them for the 1000 dollars price range that and the interest in these types of guns have grown to the point were more people are into them then when they were originally imported. I am not sure why more Slr-104fr are not imported if these guns are that popular and that's what the people want then why would they not import many more.
If Chinese 56S were to come in again, i think many people would be disappointed in their quality. China is winding down AK production, and reports from our friends in Canada and Europe say consistantly that the quality is pretty average to even poor. I think this is mostly a case of 'the grass is always greener' going on. The SLR104FR was on the market from 2013 til 2016 at good to great pricing. In that time period, a person could have saved up if they really wanted one. Look at the cost of a cellphone or TV bill every month, or how much money some people drop on fastfood every week; there are ways to save money. I've probably been poorer at one time than many others on here. I got things through saving every penny and not really buying anything else. Even all that side, good deals just dont' stay around forever. This is the case with anything, not just firearms. The VEPR would still be $1k or maybe $1.1k today if it wasn't for the sanction; not K-Var's fault, talk to the gov't on that one. As for the SLR104FR, couple things. First off, sales weren't that great so Arsenal Inc. (USA) didn't reorder. Second, Arsenal AD (Bulgaria) views 5.45x39 as an obsolete/dated/commie caliber. It wants nothing to do with it and doesn't want to waste time with it any longer. This is a very common attitude in Eastern Europe. That round was forced on them by the Soviet Union, and just has conotations of a bad and appressive time in their history. So no more SLR104FRs because they didn't sell well for Arsenal in US, and because Arsenal in BG has moved on to bigger and better things.
Francis Petro I saw a recent manufacture (new) Mak90 in my local gun shop recently for $1500. They do still make them but the fit and finish aren’t quite as nice as they used to be.
I feel you. I was still very much a kid when the 1989 import ban came down. Plus in Ark in the '80s, there weren't exactly a ton of AKs FNs, or HKs floating around. Pre-internet, if your LGS didn't have it and if you couldn't find it at a gunshow (overpriced even then), you were simply SOL.
Kvar has more out of stock inventory that's listed on the website than instock inventory 🤔I really wish they would remove listings before we get my hopes up about a much wanted part
There is an alternative in the American AK Market, that is Palmetto State Armory! They are neither questionable and certainly not dangerous. In fact, the latest addition to their AK line, the GF3 is every bit as well made or even better than the $1200-$1500 counterparts that are out there.
I agree with your opinions 98 percent. A company also should have the responsibility to be honest and forthright with their customers. Making money is a good thing, being honest is necessary.
Thanks for watching. I think what i'll do is when we release a big video on the main channel, i'll post a short update/thoughts/commentary on here to go along with it. Kind of an 'additional reading' section lol.
Hey Mischa I have a question and sorry if it’s not already explained in your videos. Why is Arsenal’s SAM7SF-84E and SAM7R’s front sight block different and which one is more secure to the barrel?
Since this is my personal channel, going to be frank with you; I don't have any interest. Don't know, don't care. Part of what I enjoy about AKs is ttheir history from a comblock factory. Building them here robs much of that. It is the same reason I like Colt & FNH ARs but if you showed me a Chinese or Russian copy, i really wouldn't care either.
As a good working gun for someone not worried about it being a collecter piece it's the best deal going. Truth is any rifle in this class is gonna appreciate in value whether it's foreign or not.
Does anyone know where the K-Var/Arsenals American Made parts are and why are they always out of stock on those too. Such as furniture. Its supposed to be made in america. So why arnt they making product?
This video still rings true for the current market. People will say "well I refuse to pay more than 900 because that's what it went for at my backwater LGS in 2006" yet also being mad when they can never find it at that price almost two decades later. I also see way too many people saying "well why doesn't X company just make new production export guns in high volume?" while ignoring the fact that many factories today have almost all factory space taken up by military contract production lines. I've actually heard rumors that a lot of the Arsenal stuff near the end of the SLR series was actually made of factory overrun parts, so even back then it seems their interest in the civilian export market was dwindling. I still think Arsenal guns are somewhat overpriced, but I've also seen people drop 5 or 600 above retail price for them at auction.
That's the main reason for Arsenals being so scarce: Arsenal doesn mainly military contracts, and only when they have capacity in between they do civilian guns. It's like this in Europe, too. In my country the importer got 50-70 guns from them (and even fewer magazines!), and he waited 2 years for them. When they're sold out, nobody knows how long it will take until the next batch comes in - or if the next batch will ever come in.
Prices go up faster than my income does and it seems that all the good sales occur when I have no extra money. Just say I am unlucky in money and unlucky in good gun sales.
The funniest part is the same thing Warren Buffett said: buy when others are fearful and stop when they're greedy, accept in this case buy when plentiful and dont buy when limited supply unless u really need in your collection
Damn right, and I have paid the price for a few guns that i really, relaly wanted yes. Usually though, i buy when it feels like a good deal and not many are interested. The SAM7SF is a great case study there.
Words to live by waited to buy a SLR 107 for the longest time. Now I just paid 1429 before tax for one, and the sad thing is the local shop only put a $50 mark up on them damned kung flu. But hey I'll finally have a AK in my collection. The lesson to be learned here don't try to buy stuff for your collection in a pandemic lol.
Yep, you got lucky. That was me with Valmets. I got into them right before the prices went to crazy town online. Actually, i sold one of my rarer ones to get the coin to put a downpayment on our house lol. No regrets. I love guns but I love a roof over my head more.
The best AK Ever Made Is the one you followed through on and actually bought Just remember to vote, if you want to keep the right to buy these Vote Republican, if you want these taken away, Vote Biden.
I am sure that you get a million questions and I hope that I am not being too forward. I am familiar with weapons and own several. I want to add an AK type because I have never even held one. I have been watching video's (a few of yours) and have come to a decision. Arsenal is a bit above my price range right now. I have narrowed it down to a Century Arms C-39-V2 or a Zastava M70-ZPap. If you had to choose one what would you pick. I understand the Zestava is not 'Mill Spec" and my after market choices are limited. Since this will be my first AK I want to leave it as it comes. I have read that the Century has many after market parts and is Mill Spec and has many parts that will fit right on. If you choose not to answer I will understand. Thank you for your time and videos.
I think you have that mixed up. Its the C39 that is in no way milspec. The ZPAP is milspec, at least as close as a semi-auto can be. It is Zastava's semi-auto version of the M70; a rifle in Yugo/Serbian service for over 50 years now. Absolutely zero doubt which one I would pick, hands down.
Truth is spoken in this video! I've also heard people say AKS are cheap. Compared to ARS, HK, FN Scar, etc... I believe the AK is historical in my opinion. Also I was told Russian Saiga AKs were the one to get. Now i heard those were never welded and need the cleaning rod holes front sight block. I hear unless Arsenal converted the Saiga it’s only worth $800-$1,300 with a ton of upgrades including a trijicon or aim point red dot. SMH
Supply and demand. Thanks for sharing Misha. I'd really love to know your thoughts on the mini baryl 96/ fb radom 5.56 ak pistol being imported this year by arms of America. And if you happen to know if the goofy rail/rear sight is easy to replace with a more traditional rear sight on an ak
Checkout the recent videos on this channel. Posted a 1st reaction video the night of the announcement of the Mini Beryl. Working on a more complete video for the main channnel, but it'll be a bit before thats completed.
I have to agree with you Mishaco. Capitalism allows us consumers to control the price of goods and services. As a business owner myself I don’t blame these companies for what they’re doing, it’s simply good business. How can anybody argue with an auction in a free market? If people don’t like the price then don’t buy it, as simple as that. It sucks that the prices are where they are but it is simple supply and demand. Great video Mishaco
Yep exactly. The SLR104FR was around for $1k for over a year and at $1.2k or less for several years. If someone couldn't buy one at that time, I do feel for them but at the end of the day, their bad luck wasn't caused by K-Var or Arsenal.
Yep, very true. Look at the price of the WASRs today! $350-$550 for a GP 10/63 a few years ago vs $800 for a new production WASR 10 with garbage wood and no history to it! Or much worse an IO or RAS! That’s where the AK market is these days. Unrelated: I heard you’re a fellow NWA resident, is that true? If so, do you still have a gun store here? I’ve heard you mention a store in other videos you’ve made. Thanks
Interesting that this video be recommended to me. I know that many were anticipating another run of SAM7's and other Arsenal imports to be made available at retail price this summer. In fact, the individual from whom I purchased my SAM7SF sold it to me expecting to be able to purchase a new one at retail price and make a profit on the difference ($200 premium). As a result of the coronavirus, it looks like this inventory *was* actually made available, however, Arsenal/K-VAR is selling them 1-2 units at a time using Gunbroker and maybe other gun auction sites at a "Buy it now" price of ~2,200
That individual is a fool. The SAM7SF will never be $1,300-$1,400 again, period, full stop. You might like to checkout our main channel over at 'mishaco'?
I completely agree Misha. If you don't want to pay the prices buy something else. I bought alot of my Arsenal guns early on when they were $699. I knew gun prices would definitely go up over time so I invested my money in guns. People should have invested in these guns early on.
The otherside to that though is remember when $500-$700 was a "crazy" price for "just an AK"? lol When i bought my SA M-5 in 2004 (delivered in 2005 as it was a no-ban version), people thought I was nuts for paying nearly $700 after transfer and tax and all that. Likewise, when i bought my SGL31, people thought I was nuts for paying over $700 for "Just a Saiga". Those who have decided not to buy often try and justify their decision by raining on other people's parades. You know, i don't really care about a PSA AK but hey if someone else does? More power to them and I wish them a great experience.
I have a Arsenal Bulgarian Sam7 Ak 45 pistol with KVAR and it's tac rail. It's obviously a limited edition and it's a fantastic Ak pistol and for me working private armed security and its blinding tac light it's incredible!!! I also have a Russian Vepr Ak 74 Fine group and it's fantastic as well!! Both have ALG 3.5 lightening triggers as well! Misha you always tell it real and I will tell you if you don't already know... You are the majority of the folks I know "Guru" and I know I speak for the majority.... Thanks for all you do for the information and passion for the firearms most love!! FYI I would love the opportunity to meet you in the future, maybe out here in Oklahoma lol 😆💪😁 oh yeah I have a couple Romanian and I am not sure how or what I exactly have as date on reunion/receiver is marked 1968 and does say a Draco-C but looks more like a M85/M95 and it's got a Yugoslavian grenade launcher pinned and welded but not exactly sure... Another is a Romanian Wasr KR it says after the Wasr and nothing quite like I've seen before...?? Thanks
I ended up paying $1200.00 for my Arsenal SAM7SF. I cried when I laid my money on the Counter, but I have not cried since. It's a great AK, except for it's painted finish that sucks big time.
How about those circle 10 556 mags? Everybody is out of stock they need to import more of them now. I was thinking about getting a new slr 106 because Iv come to the realization that a 7.62 AK for SHTF is not the best choice because of ammo availability and I refuse to downgrade to an unreliable platform such as the AR but using mags without reinforcement tabs seems a little sketchy when my life and families life depends on it
I like that this video is even more relevant now than it was two years ago. And the Arsenals are even more expensive now! I do agree with your assessment of Arsenal. Selling at max price and rationing their inventory is a good strategy, and the market agrees. They have become the H&K of AK imports, even with charging $50 for their mags. They have the best product, they can't possibly meet demand, so the set a price that only the top fraction of their prospective customers are willing to pay, then they sell to them at a steady trickle. Sales to Joe US citizen are a small side business that could easily be whisked away by the stroke of a pen in Washington; it doesn't make sense to invest heavily in it just to have the bottom fall out overnight like what happened with Fime/Molot/Kalashnikov Concern. However, I disagree about companies existing only to make shareholders money. SpaceX is a prime example of this; Elon Musk was already rich. He stated time and time again his goal wasn't to make more money; his goal was to die of old age on Mars. Making money is just a means for the company to acheive that goal. He tells his VC investors to not expect a return on investment until 2040, and he said he will not consider taking the company public until he has regularly scheduled flights to and from Mars. Milton Friedman's idea is crap, and when companies follow it to the letter it tends to only lead to destruction of that company. Shareholders of publicly traded companies have no loyalty to that company and they will readily take a squeeze it for quick profits, milk it dry, then throw away the desiccated husk. See the whole Freedom Group; Remington, DPMS, Bushmaster. Look what happened to GM; they only still exist because of government bailout. Toy's-R-Us is gone. Boeing went from the crown jewel of US industry to the 737 Max and Starliner. The examples are endless. Meanwhile public companies in places like the Czech republic like CZ do fine. Maybe its because stockholders there are more like bond holders; encouraged to buy long term investments in a company. They left the inner workings alone and let the people running it who understood it the best focus on the employees and the customers, both of whom are more loyal to a company than any stockholder. Stockholders own a piece of paper or a number on a balance sheet, nothing more. Customers own a physical tangible product that they worked hard to buy, and employees kiss their children and spouses goodbye as they leave every day to give the best years of their adult lives to a company. American companies used to care more about the latter two and did a whole lot better as a result; I wonder if we can get back to that.
If you want to support a firearms company in it for the love of the hobby/sport/right, checkout MARCOLMAR. The owner Dave Baine is wealthy and just makes and sells guns because he himself wanted them to exist. Thanks to him we have high quality Czech UK.59s and Spanish CETME-Ls.
K-varcorp FIME, etc., excellent company and products! Yes they have used “found last crate” or something to that effect, but that’s business, and its the gun business, so that means lots of things. God bless them.
Started my firearms collection while in college. Rather than going out to bars or clubs, o taking vacations during Spring Break; i put that money into guns......booze at home & guns to enjoy at home too because gotta diversify somewhat. Point is its about priorities and wehre you place your money. And even if you don't have much of it, so waht? Most people no matter then generation went through the poors at some point in their lives. I wasn't able to buy Chinese AKs at $250 and you weren't able to buy VEPR FMs at $999. just the luck of life there, but the point to take away is when you are old enough & do have the money and then a good import deal comes along? You snap that sucker up w/o hessitating. I can think of several good buys in the past 2 or so years.
I always defend them. They are able to bring in some of the finest and are also at the mercy of a factory who has larger obligations. I love my Arsenal and hope they continue to import cool shit
And I have noticed the gun community, compared to others like cigars or Linux, are bitchy, quick to blame or assume the worst, and eager to buy into conspiracies. It’s kind of ironic, a community that is mostly believers in free markets and the beauty of supply and demand cry for the cheapest price without concern/appreciation for cost of good sold... maybe it’s an IQ thing with the ones who are most vocal.
I just had to have an arsenal, any arsenal. I realized a while a go that at the AK Is not going to stick around for much longer. More modern rifles are easier to make and above all lighter weight than most AK's can dream of being. No regrets buying a pistol, just so I could afford it. these guns will never lose value
The AK will always be around man. It’s been around longer than any other firearm. Only way the AK won’t be around in America anymore is bc of our corrupt politicians who keep putting more restrictions on our import laws. But American companies are now making AKs at a large rate like palmetto state armory. Politicians are the reason why the ak may or may not be around forever
Yeah they suck but I still can't help myself but flex every once in a while lol. That inner circle crap was probably to cover up the fact that their own employees were flipping 40 round waffle mags on gun broker for 4 times the msrp.
Wasr 10 is the way to go. These other imports are nice... just not willing to pay $1300-$1500 for a 7.62x39 ak.... got my akm fix with the mighty wasr!!
I agree that we have more power than ever when it comes to buying power. People had more than enough time to buy one when they were list price. I recently sold my bubba’d Norinco BWK-92 for $2100. I live in a ban state and people really want the preban with magpul furniture + side rail and red dot.
Yep, the SLR104FR was at reasonable prices for several years...2013-2016 at least. The VEPR FM was around from 2015 through the first half of 2017 also. Not as long a period but still well over a year. That's time to save up or put one on lay-away if someone was really interested. Truth is, many people don't want something until/unless it becomes rare/talked about/hard to get. When its easy to find, its boring to them. You have no idea how often someone told me they would be buying a VEPR "next month" and they just kept putting it off, saying "they'll be around"....things are around until they aren't lol.
According to KrinkCliff on the Files, the 104 series is coming back and they’re down to their last 106 rifles (with all being 2006 production prefixes). They must have found a lot of old crates because the 106f has been available for months from various retailers and not produced by Arsenal Bulgaria since 2013. I’ve seen a couple people who have got a 106F, recently, and made a RUclips video complimenting on the fit and finish of the rifle. They state “Arsenal must being doing a better job with refinishing their current made rifles”, not knowing the rifle they are reviewing was made 13years ago (When Arsenal’s finish had a better reputation).
I think the issue is they ahve the SLR106F (106-21) left, so no scope rail. That seems to be a big turnoff. Plus the pricetag of over $1k and they are currently out of 20-30 rd mags too. I'd love the SLR104UR to come back, esp as a pistol, but I'll believe it when is ee it. Let me qualify that, i could see K-Var releasing another batch sure, but would they be new 2019 dates? or just older ones from 2014? If i were forced to bet, I'd bet 2014. Just another crate found in the back. That said, its a smart business practice. If something isn't selling well now, just hold onto it for a bit and try again in a year or two. I can't blame them for that. Heck, even i do it sometimes myself.
Misha I bought a 106F, on Sunday, because of what KrinkCilff said on the Files. I’ve also bit the bullet and bought half a dozen of the Black 30 Round Circle 10 mags. Since then, KVAR is out of stock (as of tonight) and the other 3 or 4 online sellers are down to less than 10 a piece. The word is definitely out. I’m sure they’ll all be gone by the middle of the week. I can always have Mike at Meridian Ordnance install a side rail mount, if I desire, so I’m glad I made the purchase. I usually like to shoot open sights, without optics.
@@misha5670 I understand that the 7n6 cartridge is banned, but are there actually sanctions on particular models and/or configurations in 5.45? I think a lot of us wonder why poland, Romania etc... Dont send over any 5.45's if they can.
Interesting topic. This week Atlantic Firearms came out with "Plum Bulgarian AK-74s". I was working (imagine that) and I missed the email till the evening and they were sold out. Hmm "Bulgarian 74s" I didn't know that was a thing right now in May 2020? Anyways I agree! There are alot of shenanigans going on with the 5.45x39 market.
I was too young to buy all the cheap Chinese AKs pre 1989. So i missed out on those myself. So it goes. Even if i had been old enough then, I'd have missed out on all the cheap M1 Garands back in the 1950s and 1960s. And on and on. All we can do is buy what we can, when we can. No sense worrying what we can't.
I know this is old, but while I agree mainly with your sentiment, I think you are too harsh on people who "missed out" many of us like myself were not even legally of age to purchase firearms when before sanctions. I didnt come of age in my state until 2018. Also now that the AK market is exponentially the size it was even just two years ago when this video was uploaded, wouldnt it be wise of FIME to take all the profits from these auctions and reinvest them into new production capacity for Arsenal AD while the market is positively booming? How long can Arsenal USA and K-Var stay afloat by selling a dozen guns a week on gunbroker and AK-20 goofyness while companies like PSA are bringing half a dozen or more SKUs to market every year?
Arsenal Inc. would love to get 50,000+ guns from Arsenal AD in Bulgaria. The issue is that Bulgaria is not interested in such an order at this time. It has higher priorities, which are much more profitable to it these days. Arsenal Inc. here really is a separate corporation and not a direct part of Arsenal AD. So sometimes their interests and goals are different too. As to being too harsh, I sell guns for a living. Trust me, many people do not buy something when it is easy to get and available. They wait until its gone or nearly so and then can't live without it. You have no idea how many people i told to get an SLR104FR or VEPR FM back when they were at their lowest pricepoints...those people did not buy then, but six months later? They were calling and e-mailing me daily wanting one. Some even said "I know you must have a secret stash of them, please sell me one!" Of course, i never had such a thing, just wishful thinking. I also went through the same thing with the Beretta ARX100, CZ 805 Bren, FB Archer, and so many other imports. After you hear the same song & dance hundreds of times, yes it does start to make you synical.
@@misha5670 Thanks for the reply Misha, I agee that those who genuinely and stupidly passed up the opportunity deserve a brow beating (if nothing else because it means there are fewer here, even if sanctions were an inevitability). However, the vast majority of people entering the shooting hobby are young people buying their first guns, young people who grew up playing video games and wanting to experience guns in real life. The first guns my cousin purchased when she came of age a couple years ago were a Circle 10 Makarov and a SAM7R. I myself paid an enormous sum for my own FM-47-21 from one of K-Var's auctions last December, and I don't regret it for one second. That said, my point I guess is that the young people who never have had retail access to these guns at all period, who ARE currently breathing life into the hobby, should be made distinct from the former group.
And it has been no different from previous generations you realise too. For mine, it was the 1970s-1980s preban guns. I was too young to buy those at the time, so had to pay inflated prices. And before that, the generation before missed out on the very cheap bolt actions back in the 1950s and 1960s. Of course, the value of the dollar & inflation have to be kept in mind too. $25 for a Springfield 1903 sounds insanely cheap, but then you do the calculations for $25 in 1955 vs today and you see it was more like $500+ in buying power as today.
I haven’t bought an akm in about a year and a half because $700+ for a Wasr or $1,000 for an American made Century is unacceptable. Not worth it in any stretch of the imagination when you can get an entry level ar for $500. I’ll take my money and have fun with another better platform.
And you will get a substandard AR for sure. There is no way a "duty grade" AR can be produced for less than 500. I'm saying produced for less because in order to sell it for 500 and make a profit it would have to made for considerably less. A range plinker or maybe an in-defense last ditch rifle. Myself, if I'm going to buy a rifle for real use, I'd rather it be built like it is the last one I could buy. We need to face the facts, eventual laws will make these harder to get. Why not spend the money on something that will last longer with use?
marcogram The reason I used a $500 entry level ar15 as my bottom standard of comparison is that a Wasr or an American made Century ak would be the bottom standard for the world of ak possibilities. Entry level stuff vs entry level stuff. I know that if someone wants a quality ak now they need to be ready to pony up with $1500 at least. It didn’t used to be that way. I got one of the most beautiful milled Mak90’s I’ve ever seen for $650 about 4 years ago. As well as a Galil Golani for $700. Those days are long gone my friend. I’ve got a safe with a dozen ak variants that have doubled or tripled in value from the time I bought them.
@@MaxHeadspace9mm I agree completely. The bottom line is pony up, pay the piper and jump on something now. Our choices are becoming fewer and fewer. The demographics are not favorable and are not getting better. Unfortunately these people come from places where they were terrorized with firearms. Just look at the absolutely ridiculous bill the Dems proposed. They will continue and continue until they get their way. I am now in the mindset of consolidating in both calibers and designs. We are at the cusp of some very trying times. I would rather spend the money on quality arms as well as parts. I also understand that if all you can have is something inexpensive than get what you can. I'm an advocate of everyone, regardless of social, racial, ethnic or financial standing to be armed and prepared. It is a shame that the AK is such a labor intensive design. It works. Plain and simple. The forged parts are just an obstacle that holds it up. Anyway, thanks for the intelligent discussion.
marcogram I share your opinion and your love of both the AK and stimulating conversation. I think most people, if they can justify $700 for a military type rifle would be very well served with an akm. I’m a collector and for me the only ak I would even consider would be one made by parts from another county that fielded a particular design in battle. Preferably made in that country and with minimal modification. I love the different details each nation brought to the design in order to make it suit their purpose. To me a rifle made in America from American made parts may shoot the same round and look similar but it’s a PT cruiser. A nostalgia knock off and not a collectible gun. May work perfectly. May last as long or even longer. But it’s not a “real” ak variant to me. Made for a different purpose and for different people. Zero interest in that. But it certainly would serve to protect people in a melt down. It’s just that when you get up to that high price point there are many more options. Some even better than an ak variant.
The camera work here really gave me a headache, I couldn't watch more than 3 minutes. Put the camera on a stand or a mount please. Constructive criticism, it is very difficult to watch the camera bouncing back and forth and up and down randomly. Your points are well taken though for the 3 minutes I was able to watch.
@@mikecop45380 I get comments like his on most every video. I would be very interested if any of those guys who know everything would be willing to take the challenge to try recording a video blindfolded? If so and they workout some useful techniques, then yep I'd be very interested in what they had to say. But until then, their comments are less useful than what my cats leave in their litterboxes.
People don't understand that a real AK is made with expensive machinery, hand fitted and very costly to produce in small numbers. AR15s are very modular bolt together guns, they are made from parts from many small companies with CNC and such, many barrels are still made on as old as ww1 machinery, plus alot of parts come from China. Its like the rest of the world uses Cold hammer forging but mostly the US uses traditional methods. I think AKs will be made for a long time and AK style systems. Maybe until caseless ammunition or energy weapons are mainstream if ever.
This should be titled. You know that $1500 SLR-104 with the folding stock Anyone like how they sell the new SLR without the folding stock and 45 degree gas block for like $900 If the SLR-Fr series was $1000. We are loosing alot for $100
Love it Misha, very informative like always i agree, they are making money every which way. Also i fit in with drug my feet but more like drug my feet by force lol couldnt even afford then i got a gpwasr 10 in 08 for 350$ but missed out on the 74 variants and arsenal guns, and also for 80s prices altogether missed due to my age haha , just somthing to go for in the future, even if they are expensive XD
I got into AK's late in the game and have accepted the fact that if I want a nice rifle, im going to pay for it.. 10yrs ago before kids and when I had more disposable income, I owned a few firearms but didn't have the passion for it like now.. Ya snooze, ya lose..
Rob Ski has not been hesitant to criticize Arsenal. So what happens is I sell something as a dealer. Someone buys it at what you think is a fair price. Then someone buys it and turns around and sells it for twice what I got for it. The ban on the importation of Veprs happened overnight. The prices immediately went crazy. The prices of AR-15s went crazy when we thought Hillary would get elected. After Trump was elected a lot of dealers were stuck with a big surplus of any kind of Black rifle. AK47 were cheap before Bush banded import from China. Then the ATF required compliance with 922r. I don't understand your rant. Check out Palmeto State Arms. And man up.
Your comment is a bit confusing. Let me guess, you didn't just listen to the video front-back and instead skipped around? Because what you typed out is basically what i said in the video; aka i agreed with you. Also you might checkout some of my newer videos either on this personal channel or on our main mishaco channel.
This needs to be said. A lot of the gun community just doesn't understand basic economics. You see this on trading forums where sellers try to sell used guns at new prices and buyers lowball like crazy.
Well I waited 7 months for a 107F after being told they couldn't get any because of wartime production. It was my second. First one was perfect that I bought years earlier. Second one was apparently a customer return and I know why. Came in the box with scratched and retouched, mind you paint and a barrel and sights so crooked you could shoot around corners, go around the block and hit you in the ass. Called Arsenal and they would not even take it back. Told me it would cost $80.00 dollars to send it back to the factory for evaluation. Evaluation? I want what I paid for. $ 1300.00 and seven months for a POS. Needless is say I never even fired it ,sold it and bought a VEPR. Now there is a quality AK. I was a big advocate of Arsenal. Have to say, don't anymore.
I like Arsenals. Also I in no way think they are the 'gold standard' or the best AKs out there. They are simply 'Arsenals' for better/worse. Yes, their PR department has done its share to build this image, but the internet really has put them on a petestal too.
I paid for that FM-RPK74...more than i really wanted to but it makes me happy and I enjoy it. Ditto for my Swiss SAN guns and HK G36 and loads of others. As my dad used to say "its only money." That's not dismissing the importance and value of the dollar, just that it in and of itself is worthless. Money is only valuable to trade for things you need or want. Can't eat a pile of dollar bills (or in today's case a pile of electonic 1s and 0s).
saying that the gun market isn't affected by influencers such as yourself or MAC in the extremely modern contextis a bit naive, I don't think you have a direct hand on the change of the price, but when there are esoteric imports such as the rpk-74m, archer, and now the FEG SVDs, blaming it on big 'C' Capitalism is not a nuanced view. Also, I and many others couldn't buy them then because we were too young as well, I magically found a NIB Saiga in 2017 at my lgs and snatched it for 650, those days are gone of course.
While i still appreciate you watching this video, it is 2.5 years old. Things have definitely changed since 2018. You were too young to buy say the Archer, and I feel you. I was too young to buy most of the neat imports in the '80s like say the FAMAS or Steyr AUG. Just how it goes. We're all victims of time I suppose.
@@misha5670 wow, thanks again for the response as always Misha, I understand, and am also just frustrated to have missed out exactly as you've said in the video. Gotta learn to live with what you got though
@@realfnneato3111 Yep, and now that 4 years have past since you lucked into your Saiga, I'm sure there are younger people now looking at you, saying you were lucky and they wish they had had a shot at one. My biggest luck was when i found my very first 2 Valmets. That was around 2010, so 20+ years after they had stopped coming in. And it was total luck; just happened to be in the right place at the right time. With imports, I buy anything I like now because later I'll either be glad I have it or can flip it for profit, putting that money instead towards something else I would rather have. To cover the Dragunov you mentioned, i did have to sell 3 of my own guns but..worth it. These days Arsenal/K-Var are skipping over us dealers with models like the SAM7SF-94 and SAM5 last year.
Sorry, but you do realise I am blind right? Kind of the point of this here, my personal channel-- to see what I can do on my own. Maybe you ought to just not watch.
lol boy, you really don't know me at all, do you? Why in the world would i take pride in my camera work? I am blind, so I know its not something I am probably good at. Thus not something I take pride in. So since its not something I am proud of, therefore someone criticizing it absolutely doesn't matter. Simple solution. You tell someone to go find it at said price. They walk away then probably will come back when their head is clear
Motion sickness.😂
I really am excited for the wbp guns, as far as a russian replacement.
When I turned 18 the AK market was already dead no 104frs.
When I turned 18, the 1989 ban was already in place, so I couldn't get in on all those cool 1980s guns....at least not without paying inflated prices. So i paid those inflated prices. What choice did I have?
just bought a new one never fired from a collector

I saw a recent manufacture (new) Mak90 in my local gun shop recently for $1500.
Got my Arsenal AK-74 for about $800 or $900. Got lucky. Love it!
Which model ?

Since this is my personal channel, going to be frank with you; I don't have any interest. Don't know, don't care. Part of what I enjoy about AKs is ttheir history from a comblock factory. Building them here robs much of that. It is the same reason I like Colt & FNH ARs but if you showed me a Chinese or Russian copy, i really wouldn't care either.

As a good working gun for someone not worried about it being a collecter piece it's the best deal going. Truth is any rifle in this class is gonna appreciate in value whether it's foreign or not.
yup this is that cheaperthandirt tactic back many years ago.
Does anyone know where the K-Var/Arsenals American Made parts are and why are they always out of stock on those too.
Such as furniture. Its supposed to be made in america. So why arnt they making product?
Has there been any change in your view since the Darwin v Arsenal stuff happened?
What's with constantly moving the camera around? What was the purpose of that?
How much is a SLR107FR going for? I bought mine a while ago.
(Never mind; just checked gun broker and there is only one for sale at $1300😲)
The funniest part is the same thing Warren Buffett said: buy when others are fearful and stop when they're greedy, accept in this case buy when plentiful and dont buy when limited supply unless u really need in your collection
Damn right, and I have paid the price for a few guns that i really, relaly wanted yes. Usually though, i buy when it feels like a good deal and not many are interested. The SAM7SF is a great case study there.

Misha oh for sure! I had trouble spending that $699 back then when I could get wasr-10's and norincos for $300 or less. But it sure did pay off.
Who would you recommend to cut down and re-crown the barrel on the SLR 104ur are rifle?

Dealer cost, even back in 2013, is $1,205.00 for the SAM7SF....at least it was before they ran out a year ago.
How about those circle 10 556 mags? Everybody is out of stock they need to import more of them now. I was thinking about getting a new slr 106 because Iv come to the realization that a 7.62 AK for SHTF is not the best choice because of ammo availability and I refuse to downgrade to an unreliable platform such as the AR but using mags without reinforcement tabs seems a little sketchy when my life and families life depends on it
Actually I think they just got a batch in a week or two ago.

Sadly i wasn’t old enough and I didn’t have enough money to at the time. I got into the AK game way late because of my age.
Same late to the game and paying for it

"$999 for a long time, why didn't you buy one"

Aethyrvorous I wasn’t old enough to even buy a firearm at the time
Started my firearms collection while in college.

@@jakeh6980 huh
Man, I wish I was old enough/into guns back when Russian guns were being imported.
How can we get these sanctions lifted?
We can't. The reality is that once such things get placed, they don't get lifted...at least not for decades.
I truly hope the 104FR can make a come back, tho the possibility is slim
And these days? its virtually zero.
@@misha5670 I understand that the 7n6 cartridge is banned, but are there actually sanctions on particular models and/or configurations in 5.45? I think a lot of us wonder why poland, Romania etc... Dont send over any 5.45's if they can.
Do you currently have a website that you sell firearms on? Thank you
Interesting topic.
Well, Bulgarian in some parts but others like the receiver & barrel are US made.
That would be a great video: why and how the AK cost what it does
My thoughts exactly, I hate that I had the poors and missed my unicorn when it was still a pony. My fault no one else's. Thanks mi
I dragged my feet because I was 16
what have you done with the cats?
Why not spend the money on something that will last longer with use?
marcogram
The reason I used a $500 entry level ar15 as my bottom standard of comparison is that a Wasr or an American made Century ak would be the bottom standard for the world of ak possibilities.
Anyway, thanks for the intelligent discussion.
marcogram
I share your opinion and your love of both the AK and stimulating conversation.
A 500 dollar Ar is shit. And the Ar platform is NOT better than the ak platform friend.

Kvar selling arsenal 106’s 1600, pretty much any other retailer $1000
Where is K-Var asking $1,600 for a SLR106?
My mistake I didn’t see that it said it was a SBR
No worries and also understand today in this market, there is a big difference between the SLR106 in 5.56 NATO and the SLR104 in 5.45x39.

I saw the lost in the back ad it was real
Cool, got a copy?

@@misha5670 I like that perspective alot.
saying that the gun market isn't affected by influencers such as yourself or MAC in the extremely modern contextis a bit naive, I don't think you have a direct hand on the change of the price, but when there are esoteric imports such as the rpk-74m, archer, and now the FEG SVDs, blaming it on big 'C' Capitalism is not a nuanced view.
