My mum dropped so many hints that she knew, and it STILL took me a year to have the conversation with her - tears and hugs and all. Even when your parents are the most wonderful humans, it can be scary coming out, because our world tells us that we have to. One day that'll change. Until then, remember you are loved, no matter how in or out of the closet you are ♡

I just watched a film with my mum where gay girls are included. And when they were on screen, I asked her how she sees this lesbian relationship. She reacted very well, and so I came out to her on next day, just telling her I have a crush on a girl and think I'm lesbian. She hugged me and was like: "auuuw, maybe its just a phase, but I hope you know that I love you, no matter what happens."
So, my dad gave homophobian hints. I decided to just say it to him, idk if this was the best idea. Still, his reaction was like: "I love you, no matter what. But I hope your not into your Bff this could be hard-"

One thing that helped me was I didn’t just randomly sit my mom down and tell her. I told her when we were talking about something else but it was like relevant to me being gay. So basically she brought me into her room and asked if I wanted to switch schools bc I literally hate the high school I go to and I say that all the time. Like this school is just a bunch of white people who are pro trump catholic homophobic and racist and alllllll that stuff so I don’t fit in literally at all. And my mom was like “if you want to go to a different school you can because I don’t want the school to be the reason you don’t enjoy high school and go to college or the school to simply weigh you down when there are other options that might be better for u” and I said “the reason I hate that school is because I’m gay and you know how that school is not an accepting place for that stuff so if anybody knew they would probably hate me or something” and I don’t have a lot of friends or talk to a lot of people bc I don’t like anyone there besides the people I’m friends with. My mom was accepting which is good but like every person who has come out has said is don’t come out if ur not safe or ready. If u are scared to come out like genuinely scared something bad will happen u don’t have to come out. Come out to the people you feel most comfortable coming out to and u can go from there don’t feel pressured to come out to certain people like your parents or family if you know they won’t accept you they don’t deserve to know

    • @simma264

I did something similar and it made it so much easier!! I was already crying to my mum about issues with my dad, and I brought it up like “and another thing that makes me scared he won’t love me and I can’t talk to him about things is because I like girls and I know he’s homophobic” which sorry to trauma dump lmao but yeah would suggest bringing it up somewhat naturally

    My coming out story:
I look really gay, so my bigger sister already knew and shipped me with my friends. Also, I write a ton of stories with queer main characters, and, one day, when my dad was listening to me reading one of my stories in the family table, he stopped me an said: "are you gay"
There were like 30 seconds of uncomfortable silence until I said yes, and well, then we continued with other conversations and having dinner basically. :)

    • @melog9th606
      @melog9th606 3 года назад

Also, they weren't the first people I came out, I wore pride flags everywhere and had already told all my friends and allowed them to say it to everyone who asked, so at least 50 people know at that time (and I was comfortable with it)

me and my mum have always had very open chats about sexuality. She says that she would define herself as questioning, bisexual or queer, she said once (jokingly ofc) that it's crazy how she ended up basically being a stay-at-home mum in a het relationship... lol. it's always been clear that im a 'tomboy' bc of hobbies etc that i do. I know my parents are very open to the lgbtq+ community, they have some issues with youth being shoved into labels though.
I remember taking the census last year and it asked about sexuality and my mum and i both put questioning. I remember gping to ikea a few weeks ago with friends and i basically came out to them as bi saying that "i never knew that not all women find other women attractive, like i thought it was just a given" and my gay friend fully just laughed :') (kinda a have a crush on her but will never say...) I also came out as bi to my other friends by text and they were very chill and accepting, which i knew they would be. I also came out to my brothers months ago out of the blue when they were talking about video games and anime or something and they said a female character was hot so i said "show me" and then i proceeded to say i agree. my brothers were both very chill about it, they are both neeky kinda guys and my older brother is a very sweet feminine guy - still het, even though there was a period when he was questioning that- and my twin brother likes to think hes more macho but he really isnt...
Also a week or so ago my mum and i were eating in a cafe and the subject came about, and i just plainly said what i felt when i fully realised that i am gay, basically the same thing as i said to my friends - "i never knew that not all women find other women attractive, like i thought it was just a given" - i remember there being a pause (or maybe thats in my head lol idk) but she pretty much validated my feelings and normalised them, and agreed. So i guess that was my coming out in a way? I know that i am very gay and maybe bi? idk yet so thats why im waiting to find out hehe... maybe i never will? but tbh idm i dont really care for labels. i just want to be comfortable in myself and for others to love me the way i am.
maybe ill update when i 'properly' come out... but kinda already have so idk lol
(also there is no proper way to come out so dont get stressed about it, do whatever feels right lovely hooomans)
thankyou lauren for provding such a safe place for the gays :')
    have a good one :)))

I'm coming out to my mom this weekend as a lesbian. I came out to her years ago as ace but realized about a year and a half ago that it was just compulsive heteronormativity. And I also have been questioning my gender a lot and now identify as gender fluid, I think that'll honestly be harder for her to accept than my sexuality. I'm really nervous but mostly I just want the freedom to be myself around her.

I came out to my mom as bisexual a couple of years ago, but now I think I might actually be lesbian, and it's scary to think of coming out to her as that. I grew up with her being homophobic, and even though she's not anymore, I can't get the past out of my brain. And also she's super straight and I kept convincing myself I was bi for the longest time by convincing myself I was attracted to boys, just to have something to talk to my mom about, because it was easier to talk about guy crushes than my real crushes on girls. To think of completely taking that away by coming out as gay is scary, but I think I want to do it, it's just going to take building up my courage all over again.

I'm a little bit too late hahaha. But I still want to share my coming out story bc it could help people :) So it was 3 months ago, at the end of August. I started talking to a girl at the beginning of February with mails, it was at the beginning bc i wanted to improve my german and so my german teacher gave me the mail of this girl and we started to talk. At one moment in the discussion, she told me that she was gay and i was kinda surprise but i didn't know why. And more we were talking, more i felt something for her, it wasn't just as we were friends. I was always thinking about her. And I started questionning myself about it, bc i never felt this before and i remember that i thought that I was maybe gay too. Then a few time later, we really met (it was in August), she comes to France and we spend hours together, and it was wonderful !!! When she goes back to Germany I was so so sad that i cried a lot but my parents didn't know this at this time. A few days after we met, i decided to tell her that i was in love with her, and she said that she already knew this and that it was okay, but she wanted that we stay best friends because of the distance. And I was soooo sad again that i cried the entire evening and my parents were like" what's wrong?" "why are you crying this way?". I thought it was the right time to tell them the story and i just told them that I was in love with this girl. They were very supportive and i'm so thankful for this! So it was my coming out story to my parents ;) I'm sorry for all the mistakes I probably made hahaha, i speak better german and french than english hahahaha! I hope this will help someone !! :)

However, my mom wants me to dress girly and have long hair, and whenever I wear button down shirts or beanies she says stuff like “you look like a boy” and she told me not to get a short haircut which I may want in the future. She doesn’t know I’m a chapstick or soft butch lesbian and I’m kind of scared to tell her that. I’ve also been told by others I seem straight which makes me scared to come out as lesbian for the fear of not being accepted. Any advice on how to deal with the things I listed? She buys me these clothes with rainbows on them and gets me a ton of rainbow stuff, one time she got me a shirt that looks like the Lesbian flag with the colors and the way it's organized on the shirt. She also has a shirt that says: 'Be the change' and it has rainbows and the trans flag colors on it but it's very brief, my older sister is bisexual, I just have a feeling she knows but I just don't know

I came out in 2017 as gay, I dropped hints and played around til they both got it that I was gay, the one thing that gave them the clue is when I got my Pup Hood and the rainbow/Puppy pride flags. Til this day I’m still with my partner and living at home with my family.

Although I don't think anyone will read this, I just wanna vent to someone else besides my friends. I've been questioning my gender and sexuality for about 4 months now, and I've switched between dozens of labels very often, sometimes even multiple times a day. I've done enough research that I could probably name any pride flag I see. I've made a lot of progress since then and figured out that I'm non-binary. I also think I might be omnisexual and I'm still not quite clear if I'm panromantic or if I'm on the aro spectrum. I'm still questioning, but I've come this far already. And once I've settled on the labels I like best, I'll come out to my parents. I was gonna start dropping hints that I was generally LGBTQ+ to test the waters, but they brought up a transphobic tweet someone made in their own conversation and they both agreed that gender was a construct. It melted my heart and made me smile so wide to hear them say that, and it was so relieving to know they'd accept who I am. Even tho I don't think anyone is reading this, I just want all the people who are questioning themselves to know that you and the struggle you're going through are absolutely valid, and you deserve all the love and respect you could ever get. And when you do find the right labels for you, you deserve to be accepted as you are. Don't worry about fitting or blending in, because if you do then no one might see you. Stand out and above all, love yourself for who you are because you are something that no one else is.

So I have dropping hints to my mom that I am not straight(idk what I am yet) like setting my wallpaper to a tiktok of 2 lgbt female characters that I am crushing on and having a picture of one of my celebrity crushes holding a pride flag as my other wallpaper and she has read my texts to my friend talking about my sexuality and then she just got back from a trip to Disneyland and came back with a pride blanket and stickers for my water bottle and so I think she knows but I’m not ready to tell her yet especially if I don’t know what i am yet but I’m going to wait a little while till I actually tell my parents I have came out as bi for right now because I don’t know and coming out as bi is letting me explore my sexuality but I am going to come out to her as soon as I figure it out

It’s not like the one you have of your wall it’s smaller it’s like a little hand held one you wave around and if my parents as if I’m lgbt+ I’m going to tell them the truth, but they haven’t yet. Or until Im 100% I’m pan I’ll tell them 💗💛💙

I’ve known I’m a lesbian for less than a year probably. My bestie keeps asking me when I’m gonna come out which makes it worse. She just wants to help but it rly doesn’t. I feel like it should be easy. I’ve always been terrible at saying what’s in my mind. Also telling the rest of the family sounds rly scary. Their not homophobic at all so why why WHYYYY am I so scared???
