i'm 23 and i still haven't come out, i'm scared shitless. hearing people around me always say lowkey homophobic things make me feel so... sad. i've known i like girls since i was 11 and it took me until i after i graduated high school to start coming around to the idea. i just can't bring myself to tell anyone cause i know there's no turning back and i really don't want them to treat me differently. i also don't know any gay girls i can talk to and i'm even scared of joining tinder or anything like that in fear of being outed so i'm in this kind of limbo where i known who i am and what i want but i can't do anything about it until i come out and it's a viscious cycle that i don't know how to stop. seeing these kind of videos when i was younger really helped me understand myself and i'm sure this video will help some other people out there too. i wish i'll be able to tell my story like this one day. love you
im also 23 :) i have only came out to handful of people and I understand how you feel. I still catch my self being obsessively in the closet and being so afraid of doing things in fear of being "caught". its an effort in itself to enjoy my time without feeling like im holding something back and put myself out there and be open to friendships and relationships sometimes. I'm far from ever coming out to family as I too grew up in a religious household, but I'm fortunate to have friends who are supportive and understanding and in some cases also secret gays. it was terrifying the first time I ever came out to anyone, it is no turning back and no one really told me how after that first time you still have to do it again and again haha. but it is sharing a very intimate part of your identity, and letting people in like that can bring comfort and acceptance but also vulnerability. and as it says, if we want the rewards of being loved we must submit to the mortifying ordeal of being known!! and being perceived?? disgusting. i hope you find the support you're looking for soon
Hi! First of all, I’m proud of you for sharing this, even if it feels small to you. I’m 21 and I honestly didn’t question my sexuality until high school. My friends know I’m gay, but I haven’t said a word to my family. I think that’s because a part of me is STILL in denial about liking girls and so I feel like I can’t officially call myself gay until I date someone, as if I need to prove something 😒 I know that’s foolish, but I’m blaming society. Anyway, you’re not alone! We’re all humans just trying to live our lives the best way that we can. If you ever need anyone to talk to, I’m all ears!

I almost thought that I wrote this comment while I was drunk and didn't remember cause I'm exactly in the same situation ! I guess one day you'll meet someone that will make you brave and want to come out, or you'll be confident enough..
Do you also have this feeling when a guy ask you out and all your friend guets really enthusiastic and ask to many questions and suppose your gonna date him and in you're head you're secretly laughing cause you know it's never gonna happen but you're looking for a good excuse to not be interested in him!?

So, I found the aces while coming to terms with my own sexuality. I'm not gay, but I am asexual.
I'm in an ace group, and one person shared y'all's song "Stuck" and said, "It's not ace related, but the band's name is the aces and this song bops." I've listened to y'all ever since.
i think i saw someone say something along the line of “i’m not coming out, i’m letting you in” and that spoke volumes because you really are letting people in. you are letting people see a part of you they didn’t know was there. you are i think the same age as i am (‘96 😝🤘🏼)??? but i do wish i would have accepted myself a little sooner.
edit: ‘95 so we are a year apart; not that big of a gap.
I feel like this is a new step in our relationship lmao I’ve been listening to your songs from the beginning but I never really followed y’all on any social media. This feel so fucking personal cuz I legit used your songs to fantasize about girls lmao I feel like you guys helped me with my sexuality even tho the songs weren’t inherently gay. ANYWAYS I love you guys, you’re so fucking talented and amazing and thanks for sharing !!! I hope you guys get even more recognition in the future

I had no idea Katie was queer as well.
I have known I was gay and been pretty out for half of my life now (I'm 20 have known since I was 10) but I still love hearing people's coming out stories, its really interesting hearing about others experiences especially when they are so different to my own.
Our stories match up sooooo well. We don't talk enough about young lgbtq+ people who do have internalized homophobia due to a religious upbringing!!! It can be so mentally taxing, confusing, and can make the path so much more difficult! Proud of you!!!

I've been out for a few years now and I'm about your guys age and i started to figure things out at 14 as well and I had similar experiences. I never thought I would hear music that I really love sung by women my age talking about openly loving women so I'm so thankful for y'all and your music 💜
I loved this so much, as person who just came out to myself as bisexual in June I think it’s okay to just keep it to myself until I’m completely ready to come out to the world 💕

my sexuality is something ive been struggling with for 10 years since i was in the third grade and i still havent figured it out yet and i definitely relate to growing up in a small religious town bc i grew up and still live in my small hometown which is majorly catholic and i grew up catholic and grew up hearing so much homophobic rhetoric and my parents aren’t homophobic but its just not something that was talked about in our house so i spent years hating myself at the possibility of me not being straight which i luckily have gotten over but even now its so frustrating at times bc i still havent figured out what i am and i just want to be able to know and be comfortable with knowing and be 100 percent myself but its people like you who have helped me realize i dont need to put a label on it and that i have all the time in the world to figure it out and at the end of the day it really doesnt matter bc love is love and i have a family who will love and support me no matter what and i have people like you to look up to so thank you

I came out two weeks ago to my Mom (On an old greek orthodox cemetery😂) and she was really supportive. So, I don't know why I can't just tell my friends even though I know every single one of them will support me... Anyway, thank you for your story❤

I relate to this in so many levels. My whole family is religious and I thought I was too. Now I’m gay and I’m not religious anymore because it’s a community that doesn’t accept me (like crystal said) I still haven’t come out to my parents but I’m fully accepting of myself and who I am. Thank you the aces for being a super accepting and relatable community.

I relate so much to the part about internalized hatred & self loathing but the core difference in my story is that none of my main family was or is religious & I became my own worst enemy once I had started watching a certain RUclipsr for some time who I later learned was part of the Seventh Day Adventist Church & eventually on my own free will I made the decision to start going to a church within that denomination near me & I believed for a while that I had found a place to essentially help me become straight & basically stop me from being bi but I soon fell into a depression of sorts in which I would break into tears & cry out to God to help me with my struggle of being attracted to other males but I eventually realized that I was hurting myself soon after a certain show was released known as The Owl House because I started to gain a more open mind once I saw LGBTQIA+ representation in the characters especially Luz Noceda as just like me she was bi & I slowly but surely began to shed my old ways of internalized hatred towards myself & my flawed perception of others like me soon after that & now I have a lovely boyfriend!
I gotta give you a lot props for having the guts for coming out! I'm completely straight and years ago my best friend High School came out early on in college, at first I didn't know how to handle it. But once I took the time, I didn't let it bother me. At first I was worried he was attracted to me. Since then I've had several people come out to me and they would be worried about how I would react. I would tell them "What matters more is who you are as a person on the inside, not by your sexual preference". Then friends were compterble being who they are! So i want to say congrats on having the courage and I'm sure you're a great person!

This video is so so so necessary. I don't think that you realise how much you have helped people by sharing your story. A lot of people struggle in the same way or similar that you did (me being one of them) and I only wish I had heard a story as similar to mine sooner. hii, this video brought me to tears and i’m really really thankful that you let us hear your story. i can relate a lot to everything that you talked about. growing up in a very religious family myself, i had to figure out a lot of things without much guidance from the older people around me as well. for the longest time, i really struggled with picturing what my life could look like after i distance myself from this environment. sometimes it’s easy to think that there isnt anything to picture at all, and that id have to wait til im like 40 to truly be myself. but youre out here as living proof that it isnt the case, and it gives me a whole lot of hope. have a good day !!

I’m from Utah too and grew up in Provo/Orem and it was hard to come out too, being surrounded with religious people who didn’t accept the lgbtq community was weird for me, until I realized that I shouldn’t care what any others think and now I’m so comfortable and confident with who I am

I love you so fucking much!! At the same time when you found Rose’s video is when I also found her video!! I was ALWAYS watching coming out videos on here sophomore year. If it weren’t for any of these kinds of videos I wouldn’t be where I am today. Finding Teagan and Sarah was also a game changer for me. I can totally see Skoosh just saying “yeah me too dude”. That’s awesome 😂🤣 At 16 is when I had extreme internalized homophobia and I just felt so alone and depressed. Being gay and growing up Mormon is rough, especially where we both grew up. That was a huge reason as to why I switched over to PG, because I felt it was a bit more diverse than Timp. I love that you are sharing your story and I am so proud!! I came out junior year when I was also 17. I’ve known I liked woman since I was 11. It was always a struggle and at times I’m still terrified by all of the homophobic remarks from people. Moving to Arizona for my senior year is really what helped me to be proud of who I am, and that I’m not going to hell for loving girls. Thankfully in my case my immediate family has always been incredibly supportive, and when I was still going to church only one other person was still Mormon. A huge thing for me was all of the peer pressure and not wanting to let anyone down. I’ve been dating girls since I was 18, and it’s been one hell of a rainbow ride. It is most definitely a day by day thing with learning how to fully love yourself, and to accept every single part of yourself and to be proud of it. It’s taken me a whole decade to be where I am at today with loving myself. The journey is of finding and loving yourself more each day is an on going thing. It’s hard that our country is still so homophobic. Thankfully it’s gotten better and it will continue to be better! Again I love you and you’re amazing!!

Yours is beautiful story, that you have beautifully recounted here, which I somehow stumbled upon by accident. Although I am male, a few decades older, and not Mormon, I can completely relate to your story, which is my story, and that of so many other gay people: early childhood same-sex crushes, adolescent unrequited love of straight boys--"Girls Make Me Wanna Die" could as easily be "Boys Make Me Wanna Die" with the change of a few pronouns!)---complete lack of community representation, growing up in a repressive homophobic environment, internalized homophobia, the whole nine yards. Luckily, I found my true self, and have loved a same-sex partner for many years. I had never heard of "The Aces" before I stumbled upon this video, but I have become a huge fan - not only of your music but of your genuine sisterhood with your bandmates as well. Hope to see you perform in person some day! Sadly, I'll be away the next time you play Boston, but somewhere, some day! Best of luck with your new music--I think it's great!
