The hotshot world has many options to generate revenue but most of them fall into these 2 categories. Which is the better choice for you?

I know this particular video is 2 yrs old but I learned more in 15 mins than weeks from others.
I started last week with a 2 car hauler and Ram2500.
Real numbers for my very first week,
$3550.00 gross -
$597.00 on fuel
$400.00 on insurance
$224.00 on food/expenses.
Not too shabby out of the gate.
Dont forget to take out your taxes every week.
Not bad on insurance

Listening to good advice is more important than Listening to what you want to hear like some1 we know 😆 🤣 always makes things sound easy and colorful.
another plus about hauling cars is picking up at Manheim. they are usually 6am til 10pm. you can go and go off duty, go get 3 cars and load them and strap them in, spend the night on the property, and hit the road the next morning loaded with a fresh clock.
I always used Manheim as an emergency place to park for the night even if I wasn’t picking up or dropping there 😂

Great information and not that BS you get from some others I've watched, straight to the point without trying to be a stand-up comedian for subs.
I ran the volvo pictured & a sun country 5 car out of Upstate NY and tons went to OH, not much on the backhauls unless you want NYC area, no thanks. It was a game changer over the 3 car wedge. Weight, volume, and yes you need a cdlA license. My customers one in particular loved lifted deisel big trucks. That cost me a lot of reload time and cut # carried but, I could move them and not watch my wedge bowed up flatten out. In 21 I knocked out 150k about 600 vehicles. It's worth the A license, and a sleeper beats the hell out of a backseat. Good luck drivers. 👍 that truck went down, and I'm looking at another after 1.5 year as a w2. You set your schedule range and pace.
I did the Wedge and there is a Maintenance difference. Cars are Heavy and Trailer Build is Light. Meaning the Wedge has lots of stricture-Going Up on the Trailer means Crap for Quality because the Engineering is what it is...Its all Crap. 5 Cars and Hydraulics that's different but your not going to be hauling with a 350 or 3500 Truck either. Last Note is watch your Rearend Oil Temp (better setup with Temp Gauges and Oil Coolers. To many guys are Burning up the bearings and dont know why(?)? ASK Am I full of it? I was a Pro Truck and Auto Tech for 18 years-Hotshot, think about it before you Jump. 😱
Diff Oil Coolers, Engine Oil Coolers and Trans Oil Coolers and all install Temp Gauges. 👍

Great Video! We have had terrible luck with the 2019 Dodge Ram 3500 as far as it being a lemon! My boss is fixing to buy a Semi and 8 car hauler I'm looking forward to getting away from freight and into hauling cars! Plus with freight its hard for me to get home!

Good point of view man! makes a ton of sense to me..especially the practicality of the fact that most people can load unload cars/trucks..Not everyone can handle loading and unloading a flatbed..

I started with a 3 car hauler , seem $3500-$4500 weekly once I changed to my 5 car infinity trailer hauler and easy pushing 5k-7.5k weekly the money is in the 5 car + so I definelly recommend getting ur CDL
Hands down. I’d never recommend anybody start this without a CDL because if this venture fails, you can fall back on that piece of plastic immediately. 👍

I live in South Florida and I have A CDL I'm 50 years old I'm getting back in the game buying a tractor probably this week and I'm gonna go ahead with a car wedge 4 or 5 because of the availability of freight in-and-out of Florida I could stay closer to home. You are absolutely point on correct I don't want to have to go all the way up to the Midwest to run flat bed freight Chained down stuck in one spot to come all the way back. One thing I didn’t take into consideration on this was just flat out preference. Some people have absolutely no desire to run one or the other. I’m just the kind of person that has to dabble in. Little bit of everything to satisfy curiosity lol

This is a great video. I’m a former Air Force loadmaster on airplanes so loading vehicles is what I did for years. I’m going into the vehicle transport game with a dually and a 2-3 car wedge at first. Is a 3 car too much for an F350 or a similar Ram\Chevy???? I want to buy enough truck and a similarly prepped trailer. Maybe start with a two car? Or does a 3 to start sound better? I’m going to start with auto transport and towing specifically.

Good video! Another thing to consider is that a basic 3 car trailer is usually a few thousand dollars cheaper than a flatbed trailer if they’re not decked over. And much cheaper to maintain as well as there are no wooden boards to replace.

I do cars with a 3 car wedge. Everything you said is very accurate but one thing you left out is how your paid. Every customer whether dealer or private customer pays once I drop off. I’ll get a check , cash, cash app or Zelle. Vs freight where I haft to wait.
You hit the nail on the head with practicality, it seems like you were talking directly to me, I do freight and I do have to drive well over 1000 miles to stay busy and somewhat profitable and just like you said I’m gone almost 2 weeks at a time and it sucks not being home, should’ve done cars living in North Central Florida.

I tend to do freight and when theres no freight you Book cars 40ft PJ Gooseneck, that way you don't end up standing anywhere. best to have a trailer for multi-roll

@@maseratilife1316 yeah...I bought a 2000watt inverter and a air fryer...freeze a case of water and put it in bottom of cooler.. freeze food for eat trip.. cook as I go. Also eat a lot of fruit and boiled egg white... I never really worry bout food cost...not fuel is a different story lol 90 gal external...try to fill up when I see it cheapest
@@mrblackmack2689 nice, I have a rule eat once a day but eat good atleast 2k calories, and have 95 gallon top auxiliary and 37 low factory , running 2 loads aday sometimes 3, recently went out for 4 days 2100 miles $7,000, also do my own dispatch and some side brokering.
Hey bro hotshotnewengland here, great info I agree with 99% of what you said. The only thing I would correct you on is I never had any company ask for the extra 1 million in liability coverage. I'm registered with all the major companies like united road, carvana, acv etc and never saw 2 million requirement. With cargo, companies do want about 150k for 3 cars, I personally went with 250k as that extra 100k was only a couple hundred dollars per year. Take care and hope you have a great 2021! 💪👊💰🇺🇸

@@LoadMizer I wouldn't put an extra mil just for one company unless if I loaded a lot for them. Also liability doesn't do anything for the customer so that's pretty stupid they would even request that. To each it's own 🤷♂️. 💪👊
LM, have you heard about the new hub-o-meter by vulcrum? Supposed to come out soon. It bolts to the existing vulcrum hub cap and counts mileage so you know when to change the oil in your hubs. I'm going to do a video on it when I get it. It will be on my Mayberry Mini Trucks channel.

Very well explained. Pros & cons for both. I can see that moving cars could be easier overall. Flexibility in hours and days, weight distribution is usually consistent with cars. Less accessories/equipment to secure cars. You may need a winch for non-running cars. Thank you for sharing your time and knowledge. 👍
When searching load boards , does it state if it needs to be tarped?
Have you ever delivered utility/cargo trailers? Appreciate all the info on ALL your videos.
Sometimes it will be in the description of the load but most often it will be told to you by the broker if it needs to be tarped or not. In any instance I always ask because that changes the rate for me. Surprise tarp loads when you’re at the shipper can really throw your timing off sometimes. That’s why I always ask if they don’t say it first.

Thanks for the video! I am considering starting toward the end of spring hotshotting. I currently work in sewer, I am a class 2 operator, around April I’ll have my class 3’s. But I am getting tired of getting sprayed with raw sewage every day. I have worked the dock for YRC, and XPO Logistics, and have my Class A CDL’s, are you taking on any new drivers? I am looking to take a small business loan out to get started so I can get a used truck, and used trailer with mega ramps so I can haul freight, and vehicles. I would appreciate your opinion on this, and if your taking on new drivers.

Definitely. Fuel on the wedge dropped my mpg average by about 1.5 mpg

It must be State when it comes to insurance. I’m looking to start up hot shotting hauling cars soon. The best policy that I’ve come across is with Progressive and it’s over $24,000 for a year. I am in Florida.

Hey LM . You nailed this. I live just south of Indianapolis bought the 40ft flatbed and it seems I can never be home as anticipated.. What truck would you recommend with say a 4 or 5 car hauler? Definitely considering moving to this..
I’d look deep into specs on trailer weight and rear truck axle weight rating and brakes. In my opinion the 550/5500 trucks would be the way to go with a hauler over 3 cars. I’m flat out killing this F350 with just my 3 car wedge.

Hey LM I am searching out 4 or even 5 car haulers. What I don’t get is that all I’m seeing is around a 25k gvwr which makes no sense.. Even advertised full truck haulers or suv Lol. Sounds to me that they want to sell you a hauler but you could only put go karts in the spaces to comply with gvwr. Any advice?? Thanks!

Hey great video, but how do you find cars to haul?? Are those loads on regular load boards or is it more of going to local dealerships and passing out business cards.
Most of us use central dispatch. It’s basically the car hauler load board. There are a few others that you’ll find by using certain shippers/brokerages on central but for the most part they all start with central dispatch.
