Should have told people or included in your video @14:30 you had put that metal thin bracket on backwards so other people would know. That is why the rotor wouldn’t go down on the studs. The bracket should flex towards the motor. But that is why there was a cutout in the scene so it could be fixed.

On the TQR hubs there is a warning about torque on the axle nut. In fact there is a paper showing the torque amounts. On a 2010 Nissan Murano is says 129 ft lbs. for a couple years after that is states the 177 ft lbs in the video. Be sure of your year!!

How long do the factory bearings typically last? I am working on a murano with 179k miles and i've no idea when or if they have ever been swapped, there is no indication of excessive play in the bearings so far.

What would that hammering on the hub do to the ball joint ?

  • @js891ster
    @js891ster 3 года назад

Your tutorials are awesome. They always point me in the right direction. Oh,,, my vehicles are always more difficult despite correct procedures- urff
If the axle seems too seized to the bearing an Additional alternative to smacking with big hammer maybe to use the ol Advanced loaner tool " Powerbuilt Tools Kit 43, Reversible Gear Jaw Puller Kit "#648613. Not a plug but just a suggestion. It worked for me. I was replacing bad hub bearing soo.
    6:26
    Steps:
    1. separate hub bearing from knuckle using technique in this vid- use big hammer- fine.
Where I ran in to problems was at 6:50
    2. separate hub bearing from axle shaft using technique in this vid- continue using big hammer-ok.
-I surely tried the initial method of smacking on the nut with no results other than beginning to ruin the nut and likely locking it on the shaft,,, so instead I continued hammering away on the back of the bearing disc like in step 1, hoping to separate the bearing from the axle since it was "seized". I misunderstood the concept of this step,, instead I should have used the loaner tool above at this point like I ultimately ended up doing with expected result.
-I ended up separating the bearings in the cv boot nearest the engine as shown by a completely streched out and flat rubber boot. By the time I realized what was happening it was too late. I couldn't jiggle the bearings back in to place and ended up buying a new $130 axle from parts store. I probably could have removed the boot and reinstalled the bearing back into the housing but I opted for a new axle due to mission creep, going down a further rabbit hole with more tools and time.
Despite my goof,,, it was surely cheaper than at the shop. They would have blamed me I had a crap vehicle anyway. I'll screw up my own crap thank you.
I look forward to more of your tutorials,,, they are always my go-to.
    Thanks!!

I think it's worth adding that if one is unable to successfully remove the abs wheel speed sensor they can cost in upwards of $180 per side. This was the case on my 09 murano in the heart of the rust belt.

7:45 actually the bearing can only fit one way with the diagonal cutouts facing upwards because those are the notches for the ABS speed sensor. It's universal for left or right side knuckle.

Make sure the shield is flipped so it is closer to the motor, so the rotor doesnt rub on the shield. I had to take one of my new hubs back off bc of this. Then when you put the rotor on press it firmly into the hub and rotate it to make sure you dont hear any rubbing. If so, look to see where its rubbing take rotor off and lightly tap down on the shield with a hammer on that spot. Keep doing this until you hear no noise and see the shield is clear of the rotor.

You have not been taught well. Use a big C clamp to collapse the pistons so caliper can easily be removed and installed.
Use an Impact gun on the axle nut. No bar required. Don't pull on the tab of the sensor, pull on the end that goes into the hub assy. We used Torch, air chisel, 2 Pullers and various sledge hammers. Still not off ! Salt belt vehicle. Use power wire brush to remove aluminium oxidation.
