    Here in the EU we have the ISCO - International Standard Classification of Occupations, which basically gives a code/index for every occupation. Maybe in the US you have something similar. You should check it out. And if you do have something similar, then everybody should be very careful what code/index they were assigned, because that is the official name of your job and you need to know that you are gaining experience in the right job.

    Those people who are thinking he is lying about job titles making no sense, I have a great example which proves what he says, for immigration when I have to search for the appropriate job, more than the title the work is taken into consideration.. this is because they know the work is not my the title but by the job responsibilities instead ..

    So I only got to work an IT position for a little under half a year and I absolutely loved it. I know how to build PCs, install OS systems, repair and I’ve been relatively good at diagnosing and troubleshooting for people running into any sort of issues. I’ve been looking for a job for me that fits my skills and could give me a great career. I don’t have any certifications except for ones I have for Adobe and Microsoft programs. What is an area that would really best fit me? I don’t know where to start.

    thank you, for systems administrator, would that mean that I would be in charge of Windows Server roles placed onto vms, the host to host vpn connections, the routers and switches, and webhosting too? I recently had an interview for a sys admin position and I got a lot of server questions along with citrix, vpns, and a few things that honestly went over my head. I have my CompTIA A+, Server+, Network+ and a few network cabling certs but this would be my first sys admin level job if I get it. Which is a better Security cert CompTIA Security+ or Certified Ethical Hacker?

    • @Itcareerquestions

      Every job and job description is going to be completely different from one another. It's hard to say.
      If you want to get into ethical hacking then a CEH is great, but if you're just looking to beef up your overall security knowledge then SEC+ is a great starting point.

      @@Itcareerquestions ty so much for answering. I was working a Dell PowerEdge R720 Server today in my class lab and I messed up and let the main server os update instead of just my VMs. This very expensive rack server got stuck in configuring memory at startup for over 24 hours and would not enter bios or anything, I was so nervous if I had done that on the job. After clearing the NVRAM bridge chip between the power supplies and the ram memory it still did not fix it but it allowed me to enter the bios enough to hit F10 and do a firmware update to 2.7 which fixed it. I am so happy that it worked. I like your videos man and appreciate all the knowledge you have helped us with to guide us on our journey to an exciting (sometimes stressful) field of IT.

    • @questionsaboutcomputers
      @questionsaboutcomputers 4 года назад +1

      In my opinion those jobs that are asking for a degree either are looking for potential overall aptitude or the job itself is more senior in nature. However, not every degree is useful, something like IT or Business Management would be better. But a degree can be offset by industry qualifications or experience. Like Zach mentioned, even experience from another industry could be transferred. If you're a complete beginner try to demonstrate what you've done personally. Keep a record of all the training you have done, show them online profiles in Microsoft or other etc if required.
