What I find most interesting about this era of Toa is that most of their equipment are largey meant to be tools rather than weapons; Whenua's shovels allow him to plow through earth; Nokama's axes allow her to ski off the water; Nuju's ice pick allows him to cling to Ice; Onewa's pickaxe allow him to scale stone; and Matau's blades help him glide through the air. The only one that is generally combat focused is Vakama's disc launcher, but I think it could also be used in a non-combative manner like destorying terrain and solving puzzles.
vakama used his launcher as a tool and not a weapon many times, as someone who knew the disk's powers well, he knew how to use them for many situations also the launcher actually has a second function as a jetpack, though he rarely uses it (i think it had limited fuel? idk for sure though) it's actually really cool how they did that, tools mean to help the toa use their elements better, as well as weapons

fun fact about the kaukau: normally, it's the least useful of the toa mata's masks, however in it's nuva form, it's actually the only one that can be directly weaponized (as gali at one point uses it on someone on dry land, causing them to choke to death, with absolutely nothing they could do to fight it)
@@NeonRahkshi She does? That seems like a not-very-heroic thing to do. I didn’t know the Kaukau works like Gillyweed in Harry Potter, where you’d actually suffocate if you used it on land. @@NeonRahkshi Ah, so it was already during Bionicle’s “Grimdark” phase. 😜 I know a lot of those fans that still remain consider the Ignition saga the best part of the entire story. I disagree. I think the first three years were the best, followed by the “prequel” years. But much like with Star Wars, once they went back into the present to do a sequel (with Voya Nui), they did a huge disservice to the old heroes, just in order to prop up the new ones. The Toa Nuva got their masks handed to them when they went to Voya Nui, even though for once, they did what the story always asked them to do: Act in unity. When a story punishes heroes for doing what the story itself considers the right thing, it undermines its own premise. Voya Nui was made edgy just for the sake of it. Why cr*p on the Toa Nuva in the process? So that the need for the Toa Inika could be justified (in other words: so that Lego could sell new products). Also, while I believe the evidence that the big-robot twist was planned from the beginning, I think the writers sacrificed almost everything for the sake of that twist. The realisation that awakening Mata Nui, the goal since the beginning of the story, was always going to result in the destruction of the island paradise, kind of makes you wonder if Makuta had a point in wanting to keep him asleep. That was also what the first movie hinted at (“Sleep spares him pain; awake he suffers.”). The initial story was kind of Kane and Able in reverse (Makuta being jealous of his brother for the adoration of the Matoran). Both would have made him a more complex villain. Instead, they retconned him into being yet another cartoon antagonist striving for world domination. Yawn.
