The scariest part about the Vahki is that they don't know they're serving evil by following the orders of "Turaga Dume." They think they're keeping Metru Nui safe and peaceful by kidnapping and punishing innocent Matoran. Just following their programming.

Makes me wonder... What if a Matoran talks about suspecting Turaga Dume to be an impostor while expressing concern for the real one's safety? Would the Vahki just treat the Matoran's fears like any other stray thought or would they consider the possibility, acting on the Matoran's expressed concern?
The scariest part about the Vahki is that they dont think, they are just mindless drones with programming. This is what the Great Beings initially intended the Matoran Universe inhabitants to be like, until they were given free will...just so they can we aware when being enslaved. Kinda messed up.

When I was a kid I thought these were just cool robots running around. Now I'm an adult and I can appreciate the Orwellian dystopia, I realise that BIONICLE was even cooler than I remember it being.
The Vahki actually protected the Matoran and were foot soldiers for the Toa for centuries until Makuta usurped Dume's position (and impersonated him). They were even instrumental in defending the city from Rakshi and Bohrok in ages past.

Green: These are destructive Vahki that don't care about obstacles for the sake of apprehending subjects Blue: They love to extend the chase so it lasts longer Brown: Always first in the fight and the last ones to leave White: Good at predicting where their targets are heading and were referred by others as fleeting phantoms

Rewatching this and I'm just amazed by how cool and different this is. I remeber how scary (but also really cool) the vahki seemed to me when I was little, because of these animations. The propaganda, the music, the way each animation shows a different aspect of the opressive vahki. Vahki were like a police force to fear instead of trust. Nothing in the movie got that across as well as this. It really makes the Vahki stand on their own.
If Metru Nui was the brain of the Mata Nui robot, then the days leading up to the Great Cataclysm must have been days where the Great Spirit was unsure of his existence, almost starting to doubt his purpose, if these are anything to go by - the people of Metru Nui were living in fear. No wonder Makuta Teridax was able to put him to sleep so easily.
God I'm getting tears in my eyes, these were my childhood, oh how much it loved them. They weren't just toys to me, they were a universe, a mythos, a fantastic story. Best thing to come out of Lego in my opinion, after the movie of course.
2:00 I didn't realize this until recently, but the beginning portion in Ta-Metru where the Matoran march with their heads down and the pistons are shown on the side almost exactly matches a scene from Fritz Lang's Metropolis (1927 film). Pretty cool reference!

Bordakh (blue): Loyalty-Turns victims into Vahki supporters who will help them. Zadakh (brown): Suggestion-Victims are willing to follow orders from almost anyone. Vorzakh (green): Erasing-Leaves victims walking around mindlessly, erasing their higher mental capabilities. Rorzakh (black): Presence-Allows the Vahki to see and hear through the target's eyes and ears, without the target being aware. Keerakh (white): Confusion-Removes target's sense of time and place. Note that these effects are not permanent.
