He's done it all for the sake of facilitating a shared experience & not hoarding for personal gain he's showing you can still have an artist mentality in this thing and make it work.
First album I ever heard from Aesop I was in my first year of Art College in 98 it was unlike anything I heard before, I've been bumping ace rizzle ever since..
He’s a living legend in my eyes. A true artist. What a gift this is, after all the years, all the music and memories, to be able to hear the story of the origins of his career.
I even remember like 20 years ago in a post online he was basically saying he can’t explain a lot of the stuff he writes. I think some people picture him meticulously working on every line but I think the truth is he’s just naturally gifted.
@@MrElephantBeach I think that makes sense, it's like being knowledgeable or good at something and it comes naturally to you but you can't explain how. Especially when it comes to things that you're doing in the moment, sometimes it's impossible to reflect on what you were thinking afterwards since you were just acting naturally.
Aes is a legend. The fact that he mentioned Saafir just shows how far reaching Saafir's talent was and it's sad he's kind of forgotten by most. Boxcar sessions a classic in the Bay. Much love to Aes. Greats recognize greats.
Appleseed hit my ears round 2011 and helped me define my college experience and my own approach to making music. Absolutely instrumental to my young adult years.
Appleseed is amazing I still listen to it at least once a week. God this takes me back. Tugboat Complex Series should have been it's own EP. It spans over various albums and most people don't even know it's a series.
I saw him early in his career in Miami at punk dive bar caalled Churchills.. He performed Float and the other act was Canibal Ox. There was only about 30 people at the show. What a great F'in experience. It was right before they started blowing up. Saw him perform Labor Days the next time then saw him again when Bazooka Tooth came out.. Magical times. 🤘
Man this guy explaining that he didn’t pay attention to a deal is the icing of it all. I knew just with out him saying it for years that he enjoys doing him and him only and having no one fuck with his creative space from just keeping up with what he’s been putting out and seeing some of his interviews. Him making this work in his own station of his room really shows the work he put into it and the fact that whole project had no mixing done to it, I’m like really surprised because I thought it did. Out of the years of listening to this guy and hearing this ep here and there is amazing in how it sounds. Not to mention him explaining his equipment set up is really something to note because it shows you how put this together. Like other Artists around that time they used machines. And as easy as they made it sound it wasn’t at all. It shows how easy us artists with a daw and a computer today really have it. And even then we still don’t understand the gist what we’re doing because it’s so much that goes in depth. I really appreciate for him being him and the work in his craft that he’s been producing for soo long. Like really amazing all the work that went into this. Much love to this man.
This is so awesome, can we get a series of this for like an album or just random songs aes picks out? Plus the way his voice sounds is just prime material stuff for this
The meaning and origins of Appleseed? Aes "I don't fucking know". Such endearing honesty. No bullshit ego whatsoever! Thank you so much for this Aes, was a fascinating listen. Thank you Rhymesayers.
It’s so weird how long he’s been in the game yet you compare him to long standing legends like Em or Wayne and he’s just so much more traditionalist. Truly a romantic writer by definition of the literary era That’s that rhymesayers eloquence I guess haha
I first bought apple seed in ‘02/‘03 I I was in middle school and this great hip hop head at the record store in town had a few copies up and I bought it.. “heard apple seed!” Then I was immediately hooked! Favorite rapper since.
I always wondered if Eyedeas lyrics “end your career the way it started with a Big Bang “ and I couldn’t help thinking he was referring to Aesop’s song Big Bang ?
I’ve seen people mentioned this before but I doubt it’s the case. If that were the case Star Destroyers would be dissing ace and there is no reason to assume that is the case. I believe the lyrics is simply meant to indicate that a lot of rappers of that time came out with a big hit but couldn’t make a real career out of it, you still see this today. It also plays obviously on the extended metaphor of the song being stars to rappers.
Love this, and can't wait to get the Appleseed vinyl. Please also release Music for Earthworms on vinyl. Would also love to have Aes make more videos like this, heading the thought process behind the songs.
