I have 3 cats and I leave a big bowl of crunchy food out 24/7 ...they snack anytime throughout the day. I'm not sure how accepted this feeding practice is,,,,, but my cats live 18-21 years and they are very happy and interactive.

My cat is the same way , she won't eat can food and I leave dry food in her bowl so she can eat whenever she wants , and she loves Arrowhead bottle water. , try to make sure that the food and water bowls are filled up as much as possible because it bends and hurts their whiskers , I had a veterinarian tell me that and they are a much happier cat ! 😂 ❤

One important thing that I feel is often overlooked, especially when your cat is only just a kitten - NEVER take their food from them under ANY circumstances. This is especially true when it comes to kittens that are still nursing. They WILL remember it, and it WILL damage their bond with you.

My cat adores cuddles while sleeping. If he is in deep sleep he doesn't move and I just curl up around him. If he isn't that deep in, he gives me that happy purr-meow sound and turns to show me his chin so he can get scratched! We spend hours when I have the chance just sleeping and cuddling, it's the most peaceful experience ever ^_^ ...but even the vet told my cat he's strange so maybe he's a one-off! >.

I'm so tired of people saying cats dont understand what they did is bad. There is a reason that they will jump off the counter or couch, or run off when you get home and find a plant or jar they broke. They know when they do things they arnt supposed to.

I chose 5pm as dinner time for my cat and it is unbelievable how often she turns up, almost exactly at 5pm. All of a sudden, she pops up and I look at the time and it's too frequent. Better than a Rolex - if you want to know when it's 5pm!

Another way to avoid overstimulation is to interupt the petting before when you think the cat "had enough" and wait with petting again until they want it again, which they signal by rubbing its head against yours or hand. That means "I want to be be petted again." and that's the cue to continue.

This of course is a GUIDE - every cat is different - with different backgrounds (meaning those who come from a shelter as adults). When I got my cat - he wouldn't eat unless there was two cups of his food in front of him - any less, he wouldn't eat till more is put in the bowl - then eat all of it a little at a time - he will NOT eat anything but his kibble and a specific 'treat' kibble - but he drinks with no problem (have tried many times to have him eat moist food to no avail). I have watched these videos (MANY MANY of them) and done things that 'cats love when you do this' and was reprimanded by my cat for doing so ;) Again, these are not set in stone

    • @lorismith2722

Cats have a hard time eating if their food in the bowl is low because it causes their whiskers to bend and is uncomfortable for them , I had a veterinarian tell me that before , so try to keep the food and water filled up as much as possible

I do punish my cat, but not the way you think. As a warning I hiss or growl at him, normally he listens, but as cats are he tests me sometimes and ignores the warning. What I do next is, I do what mother cats does, take him by the neck and put him on place he knows he can be on.
Now for those of you thinking my cat probably hates me, I watched a video of Feline Fanatics: Does your cat views you as mother? And it seems very clear, that he does sees me as a mother figure.
I´m not a furry, but when it comes to my cat I try to behave like a cat would, to communicate with him. Not through meowing, but as I mentioned for example growling and hissing, taking him by the neck like a mother cat does. I rub my face against his while cuddling as most animals do, to show affection etc. They can´t speak our language, but we understand how they communicate. And if we speak their language (body language, specific sounds cats use in specific situations) it works. My cat feels understood by me, and he understands me.
He´s only almost 10 months old. I let him go outside every morning before work, and almost everyday I come back home from work, and there he is waiting for me and purring before I even pet him. And if he´s not there waiting for me, he returns home after 20 minutes of me coming home.
And I know he loves me, because almost every evening he lays down on my belly, lays his head on my left breast to hear my heart beat, and while I softly pet him he purrs away until he falls asleep on top of me.
So you can say whatever you want, but according to his behavior I obviously did something right.

My cat thinks Im a big cat so he sometimes wants to rough play bite me. When this happens, I take a moment to tell him its inappropriate and hes crossing my boundaries. I let him know I respect his boundaries, he should respect mine. I say this in a calm and serious tone. He seems to understand. He gets annoyed and rolls his eyes but he gets it.
Also when I leave to go out, I leave the light on and play calming cat music for him. It lessens his anxiety.

I usually tap at his forehead lightly when he rough plays with two fingers, pretending I am a cat pawing at him. I heard somewhere it's how mama cat's teach kittens - it seems to work, he stops and looks at me questioning what's wrong and then calms down. Now he learned how much he can rough play and I haven't had the need to do it in a good while ^_^

🤗😻 It really is. My wife got me a kitten this time in 2021. Since then I got two more. Everything that can be broken has been, but that's my fault ! I have lots of cat trees and even created a walkway up along my walls for them. I have never barked at any of them, if they do something I don't like, it's because I am not a cat so it doesn't bother me. I let them come to me and I never wake them up. Being a dog person I never much liked cats but since having them I feel they are a lot like me. I don't like being woken up, touched randomly 😆 I like my meals at regular times, I like a nice clean toilet and I like to potter about at my own speed 🤣 I had no idea I was a cat person. I wouldn't change my life for a dog now but wouldn't mind one if they cats didn't mind either. Lets wait and see.

My cat is quite distant, but I'm a cuddler. I must play according to my cat's rules. I take my cue from her. She is quite elderly and she dictates how and when she approves of contact. Nb she did start to scratch my furniture so i bought a few scratch mats and each time she started to scratch, i placed her on a mat. 3 months later, it worked❤❤❤

one of our 4 cats has unfortunately been diagnosed with a terminal case of FOMO. Fear of missing out. he cannot be away from me for more than a few hours. he needs cuddles and belly rubs all the time, then after dinner he will go outside for a few hours, only to meet me back in bed. He loves petting when sleeping, he starts purring like mad if it wakes him up, and will paw my hands to his belly. Our granny cat who sleeps next to my face also is happy to have me rest a hand on her or gently pet her when she is snoring away. insta purr, licks etc.
overstimulation is a thing in some cats, but not others. One of ours will do laps ontop of us when my GF and i are in bed. shel spend like a minute getting mad chin scratches, behind the ears, cheeks, full face massage, then the needs to back off, n be back for more 30 seconds later. On the flip side, our big boy demands belly rubs all the time, and even if its been 5 mins and u stop, hel swipe at u with his paw to pull ur hand back, sometimes with claws...
Bottom line, dont take this at gospel, know ur cat

I don't have any feeding times. I thnk that is nuts. I keep dry food in their bowls so they eat when they want to. They will not touch can food so i quit buying it. My cats are the same, they decide when they are hungry and want food. Typically they have a small meal for breakfast before being let outside, then an hour later they come inside one at a time demanding to be fed a proper meal since they worked up an appetite. Many times they will skip lunch and just sleep from 11am to 6pm. Then after playing outside they come in at around 7 or 8pm wanting dinner. Every cat is different some want 3 square meals a day others just want to have more smaller meals throughout the day. Then there are the cats who are bottomless pits when it comes to food lol

Worst thing you’ve done for your cats is teaching them to “love” dry food. What makes you think that highly processed dehydrated food is healthy for them? It’s like putting yourself on a full time fast food diet. What you feed sends their blood sugar levels through the roof. Cats that eat exclusively dry food overtime become insulin-resistant and eventually diabetic. Same goes for people who consume excessive amounts of fast food.

This is a very harsh pod. Generally right ideas, but with a real guilt prod. Best I think is to have 2 cats who grow up together and get on. Cats learn us more than we ever learn them.
There are ways to give advice without making people feel guilty if they have a cat or scared to have cats in case they mess up.
If you have messed up, but in ignorance, I believe your cat knows this and forgives you.
You don't need harsh instructions to do right. If your cat is unhappy you will know. The atmosphere is unbearable. Otherwise they seem to absorb human negativity and turn it into love. It's too unbearable to eg punish them for normal behaviour. They force you to forgive them.
We are the ones being trained. Ultimately there's nothing more comforting than being owned by a cat who loves you.

Cats with abdominal pain are aggressive and do not want to be petted. They associate pain with the presence of the owner. They do not want to be touched during the day, but during the night, when they digest their food, their stomach stops hurting, they may want to be petted in the morning. Cats that are depressed or bored eat a lot of fur, which may be the reason for daily pain. Domestic cats often catch parasites from owners who enter the house from outside with dirt on their shoes

Everytime i watch one of these videos, it reminds me how out of touch people have become.
The points mentioned in this video SHOULD be obvious, I learned all these things when I was just a child, with nothing more than intuition.
I sincerely believe the people who do not already know these things, are the people who say things like "animals have no souls" or "they don't have feelings", insecure people who see cats (among other animals") as "lesser beings", and this thinking translates to their behavior toward said animals.
Which is why they are not naturally inclined to extend the usual courtesy we offer others.
It simply does not cross their mind...
If I need to EXPLAIN TO YOU that cats have emotional complexity that rivals our own, and that they can be offended/loose faith/feel despair/betrayal and so on... then in my opinion, you are a lost soul, detached from the Gaia (I use the term "Gaia" loosely).
    It is NOT rocket science!
You either approach ALL LIFE FORMS with respect... or you don't.
It speaks WORLDS about who YOU ARE, the absence of one thing can signal the presence of another.
I love the poetic "justice" of it all, for those who put in the work, are rewarded with the secret inner workings of the cosmos, while those who ignore and think it "beneath them", end up depriving THEMSELVES of practices that open one's ability to communicate, perceive, intuit and so much more.
We REALLY ARE OUR OWN WORST ENEMIES...
All praise the Great kitty Overlords!
Ever hear of Toxoplasma Gondii also called Toxoplasmosis?
The Masters (feline Overlords) command you to look it up!
    I'm sure you will appreciate...
    Bye meow!

They are not human but denigrating the species as not having any sort of cognizant abilities makes them just stuffed toys. And may I also point out that you must have clicked on the video as well and then read the comments AND decided to respond while insulting others.

I show my cats my car keys and give them a little pet and say " mum is going out and look after the house for me and I will be back soon." I was late once and one of my cats was so pleased to see me.. head butting for a pet and hugging my legs... so adorable. ❤🐈🐈‍⬛

I don't care what anyone says, I punish my cats and they are the best behaved cats I ever had. You have to conform them to your ways not the other way around. When you punish them for biting or something bad like that you act right away. Nice firm scolding and pop on butt. Than you explain to them why and you make them chill with you. Even when they leave go get them and keep them with you. They soon learn you are safe even if a little weird. But it works! Try it. I promise you will only have to discipline them in very beginning. They are quick learners and pretty smart. I have 3 adults and one almost not a kitty anymore that is the sweetest and was literally feral!

Pet peve of mine. Negative reinforcement is still reinforcement. Negative reinforcement is reinforcing a behavior by removal of a noxious or aversive stimulus.
Negative reinforcement and positive reinforcement are both reinforcement. Negative punishment and positive punishment are both punishment.

I'm sorry, but this is a ridiculous list. Most of it boils down to "don't do anything or your cat wont trust you". Then what's the point of sharing a space with them?

So I shouldn't punish my cat when he urinates on my stuff? Instead I should reward him when he doesn't urinate on my stuff? That doesn't make sense to me and seems completely impractical.

Don't bet on it. Cats like all animals are very intelligent. They know exactly what they are doing for attention. And telling them to stop does work ! Otherwise they become like spoiled children if they are allowed to repeat doing whatever is not acceptable. Some of what you say is credible but most of the assumptions about the behaviour of cats are just that - assumptions and quite frankly -nonsense!

So basically touch me when I want but anything else you do is gonna make me hate you 😂 no this list is bs my cat is the most affectionate kitty and he gets in trouble when he is naughty small offense is raised voice with spray bottle medium is a butt smack and he usually ends up whining about it all the way to his bed and his crate is for big nono like getting to big headed and biting or hissing at me or mom but he hasn't had anything above small in a month so saying that they can't understand why they are being punished is bs because they most definitely can

About the yelling and scolding, I have to disagree on that, I yelled at my cat and it doesn't eat the food I leave on the table and patiently waits for me to come before it begs with meows. P.S: That is not the same with the rest of the family. It's dominance on my part
