I live in Michigan, in America; and found a rather large peridot specimen on the river bank while prospecting. I brought it to a jeweler who thought that it was peridot, which surprised him that I found it here. This is the first specimen found in this state. Yeah, alot of 10 year olds think this has something to do with Steven Universe. They dont know that peridot, and other gems exist. Such as bismuth, aquarine, jasper, and peridot excist.
Top grade rough Peridot price starts from $3/carat. The bigger the piece the more expensive it gets. Good luck with your collection and i hope you get to visit Australia one day.

If you're referring to the Quarry Boys pushing the rocks, yes. This is beneficial for the economy for the whole town to have tourist come and prospect for free. This way they spend their money on accommodation, fuel, food, etc.

Was watching a video about Lake Superior agates, saw this on the sidebar and had to check it out. I'm glad I did. My wife's birthstone is Peridot, and the stones you were finding here are gorgeous.
Australia is a big country with lots of places where one can find good gemstones. First, may I suggest you google fossicking for gemstones in Australia and you'll find a lot of open to the public places where anyone can go and still find a lot of good gems. You'll just have to decide which "State" you'd want to visit first and from there, find the names of towns and research what gems can be found at that specific place. The value of the stones vary from it's size. What I consider "Bigger Ones" are from 5 carats upwards when faceted. If I factor in the 4 C's, then the value can range upwards of $60/carat.
We were supposed to only stay for 2 days but ended up staying for 4 days. I did not want to leave as i wanted to gather more...LOL So much fun and planning to go back there again soon.

I love watching you prospecting. I would love to try it myself. Australia seems to have everything. Throughout the U.S. there are different mines open to the public but they are spread out and a good distance from me. It looks like fun.
