I find it interesting that the whole song is built upon the first verse of the original Megalovania, and never progresses; it just keeps looping with different alterations here and there. This speaks volumes about how Dust!Sans feels trapped and tormented through the continuous resets and Genocide runs, and how he can never move on - never accepting your purgatory as a way of life, but begrudgingly having to endure through it... Unless he kills you.
Bit of a stretch, but it makes sense. I also like how the backing track is the one to evolve and change, where in most megalovania remixes it kinda just stays the same few versions. The change in what instruments play the lead can also build intensity without even changing the leads pacing what so ever. Its so backwards to what im used to hearing that i love it.

lots of people think murdertale / dusttale is sad, epic, or overwhelming but i find it quite frightening. imagine the entire underground having to evacuate, alarms blaring, monsters terrified, screaming, all because one guy who’s usually lazy, easy-going and chill has gone psycho and decided to murder everyone, including his friends and own brother. horrifying.
That's literally what made people had an interest in this AU. A fightening and bloody-handed lore story of a guy who used to be funny and chill drastically changed onto a complete merciless monster is something "unusual"
*You have reset. For the hundredth time, you completed a Genocide run. You loved seeing them all turn to dust. Chara has forgotten her morality, killing everything along with you. Only this time, instead of being greeted by Flowey and Toriel, there is only a thin layer of dust coating the ground. You hear the sounds of Flowey crying, in Asriel's voice. Just like each time you cut him to dust. He hears you, hears you fall. The sounds of crying disappear, instead a small shriek reaches your ears and the sound of tunneling is heard. You decide to press on. The ruins is also coated with dust, more and more the further you proceed. No Froggits or Whimsuns are seen or heard. This must be their dust. It coats the ground, giving you a feeling of satisfaction. However, this feeling is mixed with something new. A sense of fear. As you press on through the ruins, you hear sounds. Or so you think. The dust is so thick beneath your feet that it crunches as you step. A wild, dead smile comes onto your face. Chara laughs maniacally. *Where Toriel's home normally is, there is nothing but ash. Black, charred pieces of furniture and wood scatter in the area you knew so well. The black is intermittent with the white dust of monsters fallen long before you arrived. Something shiny glints in the mysterious light now being cast over the place. You pick it up, it is the Toy Knife. You throw your stick behind you. As you step over the ruins of Toriel's home, a terrifying melody begins to play. As you turn around, Sans appears for only a moment, his hood over his head and a purple light in his eyes rather than blue. As you blink, the figure disappears and the music ebbs away. You continue on, walking through the hole blasted in the ruins where the door used to be. The camera in the bushes is half melted, as is the snow around the door. You and Chara have become silent. Something is not right. What happened to the Underground? You were supposed to be the one to destroy it. Who got here before you? *The Snowdin forest is barely standing. Every tree that used to be lush with pine needles are now almost burnt-looking. As if they've withered up and died. Continuing your trek, you notice that the gateway that Papyrus made is fixed. Using the knife, you kick out as many bars as you need to leave. Walking through it, you hear the sound of footsteps behind you. Every time you look back, however, nobody is there. Something is truly wrong here. You reach the place where the conveniently shaped lamp is meant to be. There's pieces of ceramic everywhere, and the lampshade has been placed upon a dummy with Papyrus' face drawn on the front of the shade, as if someone had tried to recreate the skeleton. The dummy has a huge tear in the back. You notice something solid in the snow. It's pure white. You turn it around, and jump back in suprise. It is Papyrus' lifeless skull. It seems like someone killed him, but couldn't bring themselves to crush his head. You scoff at the idea. They were weak. Chara smiles again, the black fluid dripping from her eyes. Just then, someone speaks behind you. *Hello, human. *Don't you know how to greet a new pal? *You turn around, knowing who it is, more relieved to see him than you would ever like to admit to yourself. *He is not the same. *Both eyes glow red, one has a purple aura around it. *His hood is up. *Suddenly, Gaster Blasters appear all around you and fire. *This is not the place you know. He wasnt thinking straight, dust sans has gone through the geno timeline more than once. According to lore he does in fact try to evacuate but nobody believes him because "what could a child do, its *just* a child" even his own brother disregards his warning EVERY timeline. Eventually he snaps and kills papyrus during an argument about whether or not to capture your soul , realizing that taking the exp from you before you can level up and kill everyone was a smarter way to stop the resets. Although short sided it works and theoretically with his newfound determination he could reset before he killed anyone and the only one who would be affected would be frisk (just like flowey is the only one who isnt reset since he also has determination. He cant reset because frisk/charas dt outweighs his, this may also be the case for frisk with sans being more determined to stop him. But thats just my 2cents

Read up a bit on this and I quite like the story: Sans sees that their is no other way to stop Chara than to gain LV and EXP in order to become more powerful than her, and gain the ability to finally kill her. Thus, the more he kills - like he once said - the more he is able to distance himself, and the less it hurts him to hurt others. So, his morals are completely changed. As represented by his eye, instead of displaying justice and patience, he now has determination and perseverance: the determination to not stop (like Chara/Frisk) till he has killed every single monster, and the perseverance to get through killing all of his old friends, including his beloved brother. He has the ability to destroy SAVE points, according to the AU wiki, in order to impede Frisk's/Chara's path to destroying the universe, and, although his past self cries out to stop this madness, the insane, new part of himself completely overrules it when he convinces himself there is no other way to save the world. However, in the end, he is ending the world quicker. He only just realizes this as he kills Papyrus, but by now he has satisfied that growing part of him so much that he forgets about morals and his past is completely destroyed. He seeks out Frisk and kills her, only to find that he 'missed' Chara as she materializes in front of him, and he proceeds to attempt to kill her over and over and over, having finally completely lost it. If you think about it, this is what can happen in real life. When people realize somebody who is evil and unreasonable cannot be stopped they turn to war -- killing hundreds and thousands of possibly innocent or broken people -- in order to stop an evil. But, the truth is, the person who has decided to sacrifice millions in order to destroy said 'evil' has turned into the worst evil there is. Thus, we can determine that after Sans possibly manages to rid the timeline of Chara, he is stuck like he is in every other universe after Genocide: Alone. The last one standing. I'm wondering what he would do next. Due to his determination; would he reset and continue killing and resetting? Would he end his own life out of sheer insanity and loneliness? Would he travel to other universes? I'm guessing suicide seeing as his brother's ghost haunts him constantly, everyone he once loved is dead, AND he is stuck with the madness in his skull.
phantom Papyrus (Pap from this AU) is usually depicted as egging sans on with the destruction. Sans also talks with his brother like normal except it's in his head because no one else can see him proving that he's insane,thus "You wanna have a MAD time?!"
Ah, I see. That explains a lot, I half expected PPap to try to convince him not to do the killings, but it makes more sense that what he is seeing is a hallucination of his own that helps him. Ta for that.
In my personal head cannon, after finally ridding the human from his world, he kinda just sits alone for a wile, until Ink runs into him, exploring this AU that is breaking before him. Ink and Dust kinda talk a little, as Dust attempts to keep his composure, and This is how he learns about other timelines and AUs. Ink finally leaves him, and within the silence once more, Dust practices his new found magic. I imagine that he's able teleport freely between timelines and AUs by making a portal with his purple colored bone.

You and Chara are confused but yet amused to see Toriel turn to dust. And then Sans kills papyrus. But he gaster blasted him to oblivion and all that remains is his skull. You think back to he normal genocide route of how his skull still remained. But as you catch up to him. You realize he’s gone mad and nothing will stop him from killing everyone and you now finally realize *Sans wasn’t the final boss battle......YOU were the final boss battle* And yet as you gaze upon Sans new look, you realize that you have created this never ending madness.

lots of people think murdertale / dusttale is sad, epic, or overwhelming but i find it quite frightening. imagine the entire underground having to evacuate, alarms blaring, monsters terrified, screaming, all because one guy who’s usually lazy, easy-going and chill has gone psycho and decided to murder everyone, including his friends and own brother. horrifying.
That's literally what made people had an interest in this AU. A fightening and bloody-handed lore story of a guy who used to be funny and chill drastically changed onto a complete merciless monster is something "unusual"
I feel like Dusttale is isn't the same anymore, because of it's new fanbase people from the new fanbase making it edgy more than scary and sad
*You have reset. For the hundredth time, you completed a Genocide run. You loved seeing them all turn to dust. Chara has forgotten her morality, killing everything along with you. Only this time, instead of being greeted by Flowey and Toriel, there is only a thin layer of dust coating the ground. You hear the sounds of Flowey crying, in Asriel's voice. Just like each time you cut him to dust. He hears you, hears you fall. The sounds of crying disappear, instead a small shriek reaches your ears and the sound of tunneling is heard. You decide to press on. The ruins is also coated with dust, more and more the further you proceed. No Froggits or Whimsuns are seen or heard. This must be their dust. It coats the ground, giving you a feeling of satisfaction. However, this feeling is mixed with something new. A sense of fear. As you press on through the ruins, you hear sounds. Or so you think. The dust is so thick beneath your feet that it crunches as you step. A wild, dead smile comes onto your face. Chara laughs maniacally.
*Where Toriel's home normally is, there is nothing but ash. Black, charred pieces of furniture and wood scatter in the area you knew so well. The black is intermittent with the white dust of monsters fallen long before you arrived. Something shiny glints in the mysterious light now being cast over the place. You pick it up, it is the Toy Knife. You throw your stick behind you. As you step over the ruins of Toriel's home, a terrifying melody begins to play. As you turn around, Sans appears for only a moment, his hood over his head and a purple light in his eyes rather than blue. As you blink, the figure disappears and the music ebbs away. You continue on, walking through the hole blasted in the ruins where the door used to be. The camera in the bushes is half melted, as is the snow around the door. You and Chara have become silent. Something is not right. What happened to the Underground? You were supposed to be the one to destroy it. Who got here before you?
*The Snowdin forest is barely standing. Every tree that used to be lush with pine needles are now almost burnt-looking. As if they've withered up and died. Continuing your trek, you notice that the gateway that Papyrus made is fixed. Using the knife, you kick out as many bars as you need to leave. Walking through it, you hear the sound of footsteps behind you. Every time you look back, however, nobody is there. Something is truly wrong here. You reach the place where the conveniently shaped lamp is meant to be. There's pieces of ceramic everywhere, and the lampshade has been placed upon a dummy with Papyrus' face drawn on the front of the shade, as if someone had tried to recreate the skeleton. The dummy has a huge tear in the back. You notice something solid in the snow. It's pure white. You turn it around, and jump back in suprise. It is Papyrus' lifeless skull. It seems like someone killed him, but couldn't bring themselves to crush his head. You scoff at the idea. They were weak. Chara smiles again, the black fluid dripping from her eyes. Just then, someone speaks behind you.
*Hello, human.
*Don't you know how to greet a new pal?
*You turn around, knowing who it is, more relieved to see him than you would ever like to admit to yourself.
*He is not the same.
*Both eyes glow red, one has a purple aura around it.
*His hood is up.

Like I mean when you meet him after the 99th genocide route, let's say when you meet him he kills you instantly
He wasnt thinking straight, dust sans has gone through the geno timeline more than once. According to lore he does in fact try to evacuate but nobody believes him because "what could a child do, its *just* a child" even his own brother disregards his warning EVERY timeline. Eventually he snaps and kills papyrus during an argument about whether or not to capture your soul , realizing that taking the exp from you before you can level up and kill everyone was a smarter way to stop the resets. Although short sided it works and theoretically with his newfound determination he could reset before he killed anyone and the only one who would be affected would be frisk (just like flowey is the only one who isnt reset since he also has determination. He cant reset because frisk/charas dt outweighs his, this may also be the case for frisk with sans being more determined to stop him. But thats just my 2cents

I've had plenty of time to repress myself, waiting in the quiet halls...
And then I thought to myself...
Maybe standing idle...

Read up a bit on this and I quite like the story: Sans sees that their is no other way to stop Chara than to gain LV and EXP in order to become more powerful than her, and gain the ability to finally kill her. Thus, the more he kills - like he once said - the more he is able to distance himself, and the less it hurts him to hurt others. So, his morals are completely changed. As represented by his eye, instead of displaying justice and patience, he now has determination and perseverance: the determination to not stop (like Chara/Frisk) till he has killed every single monster, and the perseverance to get through killing all of his old friends, including his beloved brother.
He has the ability to destroy SAVE points, according to the AU wiki, in order to impede Frisk's/Chara's path to destroying the universe, and, although his past self cries out to stop this madness, the insane, new part of himself completely overrules it when he convinces himself there is no other way to save the world. However, in the end, he is ending the world quicker.
He only just realizes this as he kills Papyrus, but by now he has satisfied that growing part of him so much that he forgets about morals and his past is completely destroyed. He seeks out Frisk and kills her, only to find that he 'missed' Chara as she materializes in front of him, and he proceeds to attempt to kill her over and over and over, having finally completely lost it.
If you think about it, this is what can happen in real life. When people realize somebody who is evil and unreasonable cannot be stopped they turn to war -- killing hundreds and thousands of possibly innocent or broken people -- in order to stop an evil. But, the truth is, the person who has decided to sacrifice millions in order to destroy said 'evil' has turned into the worst evil there is.
Thus, we can determine that after Sans possibly manages to rid the timeline of Chara, he is stuck like he is in every other universe after Genocide: Alone. The last one standing. I'm wondering what he would do next. Due to his determination; would he reset and continue killing and resetting? Would he end his own life out of sheer insanity and loneliness? Would he travel to other universes? I'm guessing suicide seeing as his brother's ghost haunts him constantly, everyone he once loved is dead, AND he is stuck with the madness in his skull.
phantom Papyrus (Pap from this AU) is usually depicted as egging sans on with the destruction. Sans also talks with his brother like normal except it's in his head because no one else can see him proving that he's insane,thus "You wanna have a MAD time?!"
Ah, I see. That explains a lot, I half expected PPap to try to convince him not to do the killings, but it makes more sense that what he is seeing is a hallucination of his own that helps him. Ta for that.

In my personal head cannon, after finally ridding the human from his world, he kinda just sits alone for a wile, until Ink runs into him, exploring this AU that is breaking before him. Ink and Dust kinda talk a little, as Dust attempts to keep his composure, and This is how he learns about other timelines and AUs. Ink finally leaves him, and within the silence once more, Dust practices his new found magic. I imagine that he's able teleport freely between timelines and AUs by making a portal with his purple colored bone.

You and Chara are confused but yet amused to see Toriel turn to dust. And then Sans kills papyrus. But he gaster blasted him to oblivion and all that remains is his skull. You think back to he normal genocide route of how his skull still remained. But as you catch up to him. You realize he’s gone mad and nothing will stop him from killing everyone and you now finally realize
*Sans wasn’t the final boss battle......YOU were the final boss battle* And yet as you gaze upon Sans new look, you realize that you have created this never ending madness.
