I'm a recent subscriber and wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the way you "show" the training, rather than showing the "trained" dog. This is so much more helpful!!.
I tend to listen to training videos at 1.25 or 1.5 speed because people prattle on endlessly. I appreciate how concise you are, I don’t have to change a thing.
We just got a 9 week old German Shephard puppy and i have tried all the "flowery" leave it commands and just as you said ... he is now going for our HANDS, not in a play or nice way either. NO ONE shows the struggles of a fresh command, no one shows any correction other than "patience". by that i mean WAIT for your dog to stop and listen... and let me tell you a high energy 9 week old BIG german shephard does not wait and stop. (He is almost 20 pounds at 9 weeks.) I'm a small female, it's getting to the point where i have actual wounds on my hands for the "cover it and wait" technique. I am definitely going to try this method. He has now started to play the "grab it and run" game. It's hard. He is a big puppy and nothing else is working.
I'm boning up on the most essential obedience commands for my new Lab pup which I bring home next month and I truly enjoy your training presentations and style. I trained my previous dog buddy 'old school' and I prefer your methodology and I'm already convinced my new pup will appreciate it also and hopefully learn quicker also. Keep up the great work.
Nice! My hoover did not understand the other technique. She now dives on anything and swollows it fast. Im working on this way and seems she's gettin it. 😁
I need more Duane! The puppy training videos you put up are a huge help in tightening up my technique for little mistakes here and there! I haven’t trained a puppy in a couple years so I’m definitely benefiting from watching Duane, what a cutie 😍
Wow! His first lesson?!! I love how quickly he's picking up on the concept. Very cool. Thx. Will work with one of my dogs who really needs to learn this.
You deserve more views. Your way makes way more sense than the more popular dog trailers on RUclips I never even thought about the negative action of hand-blocking, but now that i know it feels like a no-brainer!
Perfect video for me. My young lab is like a vacuum cleaner when we go walking. I'm constantly correcting and telling him leave it but need to implement more positive reinforcement as shown here. My dog looks just like the one in the video except a few weeks older.
Thanks for all the great videos. The leave command is something I think I taught my 6 month old German Shepherd by mistake. When we got him on 6 weeks, he used to charge for the cat's bowl when I let him in the kitchen, and chow down everything in the bowl. I used to just tell him "no, leave" (in my home language of course) and placed the bowl up on the counter. After a few weeks, he started to ignore the bowl by himself. Even telling him to leave other stuff, he obeys. I think I have the leave command down to 70%. Will definitively get the command to 100% with some more practice from this video. Thanks again.
Martin Boonzaaier yeah German shepherds are pretty smart like that. Pit bulls & bullies are also the same way, as long as they have that respect for their owner.
Great method for teaching leave it. I agree that want is most important is the dog does not get what you initially told him to "leave it." One of the first behaviors that a dog should learn.
I made this with my Lagotto Romagnolo and he learned immediately. Really i was surprised. And after 3 times i leave my dog free and he don't touch any piece of wurstel on the grass. Wonderful. This was the most important thing i teach to my dog because he is truffle hunter and a lot of dog die poisoned during truffle hunt.
May our prayers be with you and your family and friends. May you return home soon. Thank you for another great video even through thus troubled time in your life.
Lol, the feeding of cheese from your mouth to dog reminds me of how I gave a treat to my godchildren when they were pups; good stuff and great easy to understand training.
I sometimes think the dog can get confused when you tell the dog to leave alone the very thing you're giving him as a reward. Not always, but sometimes. Especially if they are hyper dogs. So, I'll use something that the dog likes but is never supposed to have (a shoe, paper, etc.) and reward with at treat. On the other hand, I like to give my dog pieces of cheese and every couple of times ask her to leave it, then say take it or take then she can have it. And, yes, I have no idea how you would teach this with your dog not on a leash. Thanks again for all the free info, Robert!
Absolute live the way you train your dogs . I have my own little domestic fun dog school and I have changed my training quite a bit since I have been watching your videos, and I do get very good results. Thank you. Claudia, Bedfordview, Johannesburg
had just seen you demonstrate with older dog. I haven't made time to watch all your videos but seeing your behavior in response to the puppy throughout the video makes me have faith on my puppy 😂
My 'takeaway' from teaching a new command is to make it as easy as possible at first and then raise the difficulty once the command is known. I use 'leave' ... one word. A neutral object to start (spoon, crumpled bag, etc.) and move to a shoe or even a cookie later... once the command is well known and the dog clearly does the action (ignore the object) on command. To toss a biscuit on the ground for most folks is to set the dog up to fail and very few owners will correct the dog enough to teach the command.
Love your videos especially how you just have fun with your dogs not training but just enjoying. Love it. You can learn so much from you that can be used to improve partnerships with other types of animals
Robert, your training is amazing. I’ve followed your channel with my first dog. We just got a puppy who isn’t food aggressive, but a fast eater and then wants to eat their food and everyone else’s food, and will physically jump up to get our plates. I will try this with her. I hope it works!!
Just did this with my 9 week old bullmastiff puppy. He caught on really fast, to the point where he didn't even go for the distraction, so I'm gonna need to find something more tempting next time 😄 Great videos
These videos are awesome, and to see you do it all with out the shock collar or whatever these other videos on here are using is verrrry refreshing. Thank you for showing how it’s done!
Your videos are superb Robert I really enjoy watching them and I've been using your videos to try my Malamute who was 11 weeks old I just love the way you do it real world real life is awesome
Hello Robert. I find your videos very useful and full of great info. I haven't seen yet and would like to ask you to make a video about " how to teach your new puppy and/or dog, to only eat the food that you give him, and NOT any food found elsewhere or that others offer to him, especially when you are not present. I think that is very useful to all dogs, but even more importantly to guard dogs. Thank you !
I never thought I would need this command until my puppy knocked my daughter down, and nothing I said stopped him from running over to her. She is fine, but it was a wake up call. This command is top priority. Normally, I have him on a leash, but I stupidly thought he had been doing so well I would chance it.
Robert, thank you very much for your dedication to our furry friends and for the direction you give freely. I have a 9 wk old Doberman names Bruce. I have implemented a hand full of your trainings with Bruce and it is amazing how smart they truly are when you teach them properly. Wondering what kind of collar and leash I should be using this young? Thanks much! Again, amazing!
I'm a little confused. This is fantastic, but we are the ones throwing the food down. How do we take it from here to the dog "leaving it" when there's already something on the ground?
if I may from what i've learned through Robert's work: treat/praise them heavily after telling them not to touch something on the ground and eventually the dog's response becomes going to you if they find something interesting (i.e. what you have is better than whatever they found - my dog used to drink from puddles but now comes to me for a sip of water). maybe set up a distraction session by laying interesting things on the floor ahead of time, with high value food in your hands as a reward for ignoring the distractions and work up from there. good things must always come from your hand - set them up for success!
Robert, could you do a video of how to train the "send away". I've definitely messed up the way I've trained it because my dog has learned to search for the reward I set at the send away mark. Even though he will run straight to the mark and pick up the treat, he then looks around for more before coming back.
Love your style mate id love to see what your take would be on working sheep dogs when training not to chase different animals they are not to touch such as native species how would you tackle this training
Could you please speak about getting your dog to stop barking at the door? We live in an apartment, my fog barks at noises and people outside our flat. Thank you!
I'm thinking of getting a german shepherd I'm inspired by your videos and you make it looks so easy I would love your advise on how to choose a working German shepherd (to be protective/guard dog,) I don't know how to train him to be aggressive(meaning to do his "job" when me or my family might need his help) and to be calm when my friends come over and to listen and understand the commands properly I would really appreciate your help!!
Very good job Robert. I do it the same way with most dogs. However with consistent and severe Pica that is making a dog ill an E collar on low levels works, but not on a very young pup. I exhaust every other option first though. Thank you : )
I'm a recent subscriber and wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the way you "show" the training, rather than showing the "trained" dog. This is so much more helpful!!.

I literally saw a video before this with the “cover with your hand” method..glad I kept searching…

I follow quite a few dog trainers and I really like you - your videos have only the useful stuff. No water, no bs

Saveria Jones I feed my baby son from my mouth too. Lmao. I’m a dog at heart
Hi Robert. Glad to hear you and your dogs are safe. My prayers for all those impacted.

Another awesome video - best dog training on RUclips
That's awesome sir
Thank you so much oh my god
You will have thousands of like. Great teatcher. Great strategies. Amazing respect for the mentality of the dog. Best trainer
Nice and very cool
Hello from Morocco this a good method to train my rott I have tried many of yours they are working well thank you for your way to teach us too
Crystal clear!
My 'takeaway' from teaching a new command is to make it as easy as possible at first and then raise the difficulty once the command is known. I use 'leave' ... one word. The point is to use something the dog will want to go for. Otherwise doesn't mean anything.
Love the way you explain
Just bought a malinois and by watching your videos is helping me alot with simple commands
Thanks
Great video.. loved the fact that it did not go perfectly and that Dwayne was rambunctious. My Boston is like that So it helped to see the corrections
Ypu are Really great sir hats off to You
Love your videos especially how you just have fun with your dogs not training but just enjoying. Love it. You can learn so much from you that can be used to improve partnerships with other types of animals

Great explanation
Thank you for another great video! Can you make one to teach a dog the "off" command?
I have just recently found you and enjoy your videos very much. I have subscribed. Thank you.
Hello Robert. I find your videos very useful and full of great info. Great video. This is the same way I start a puppy as well. Zak George is probably not as impressed lol.
😆
Thanks for always helping me with new ideas an advancing my game. Your one of the very best
Another great video, thanks. He sure is growing up fast,
Great video! So simple!
Excellent information. Thanks.
Cheers Mate!
Brilliant! Liked & subscribed! Hi from London!
Ty for the wonderful videos please keep making them!
Interesting way to train this. Very cool
This is really good thank you

Thank you, I've seen videos with the trainers as you said. Your way does work much better! Thank u for giving these videos!

Another great vid Rob. Duane is so energetic, how many weeks old is he in this vid?
About 5 months
Sir please comment which treats you are giving
awesome video!
Do you use a pinch collar with the long line?
Hi Robert, How long and how many times a day should I train our golden retriever?
2-3 15 minute sessions followed by play.
Thank you for this awesome information 😃
Robert, could you do a video of how to train the "send away". I've definitely messed up the way I've trained it because my dog has learned to search for the reward I set at the send away mark. You have a video on "Down in motion?" or "Sit in motion?"
Yes. Check the obedience training playlist.
@@RobertCabralDogs are you using a prong collar for the corrections.
