  • @johnodonnell2229
    @johnodonnell2229 9 лет назад +6

    I hunt Moose with the trophy bonded (165) and have had great success in the 7mmRemMag. The bullet held together and rolled the animal over on the spot. I like the ballistic tip on lighter game (whitetail) but on bigger deer it to me over expands and damages some meat. All in all the Federal rounds I have used are very accurate and dependable

    Simply put, the first two bullets (Ballistic Tip and Game King) are not designed to do what the last two bullets (Trophy Tip and Barnes X) are designed to do. From the very start of this test they are comparing two apples to two oranges. Why not compare the last two bullets to a Nosler Partition and a Nosler Accubond? These latter bullets are designed for elk size game, in the bullet weight used, as are the last two bullets in this test.

    It comes down to what you're hunting and what distances you might be shooting. BT and Gameking are great on white tail. if you're going after elk, moose or bear, you might want a partition or solid copper bullet.

      I've shot many deer with it.....it usually drops them in their track....only problem is that it's close to impossible to get them these days. At least in 270 win. I hate the company for that. There's no excuse! I switched to sierra gamekings for a 5.56 since it's impossible to get NBT's. The 55 gr SBT is absolutely devastating to deer.

  • @gookoo780
    @gookoo780 11 лет назад +1

    I've been using 165 grn Barnes TSX for 8 yrs now and they are my bullet of choice. Only becuse I've never lost an animal and they don't contaminate the meat like bonded bullets do. I hunt whitetails, mulies and elk here in Alberta you need a tough bullet for these giants up here.

    Shot last years deer with a 25:06 ,117 grain Sierra game king. It performed beautifully, I hit the deer just behind the shoulder the bullet went thru the other side breaking the opposite shoulder bone. The deer fell over on the spot and kicked twice and it was over.

  • @Kachok80
    @Kachok80 9 лет назад +3

    Sierra Game King or Ballistic Tip on deer, TSX or TBBC on anything larger, though since I roll my own I would also add SST to the deer category they perform REALLY well on whitetail and smaller hogs. The Sierra bullets are in general the most accurate bullets I have ever loaded (in 30+ firearms) but are not as consistent in their performance, my 140gr 7mm-08 loads give textbook perfect performance where as my 150gr 270 loads seem a little slow expanding for thin skinned game, and my 165gr 30-06 loads are way too devastating for use on deer, looks like you hit them with a bazooka. Ballistic Tips and SSTs are more consistent across caliber, weight, and impact speed so if a deer rifle likes SSTs (some rifles don't like a scant ogive) that is all I ever use in it.

    • @TimKollat
      @TimKollat 8 лет назад +3

      thats why i think copper bullets are way over rated and Ill never use them. They need ultra high velocity to fully open and even then they are not consistent. Id take a standard cup and core soft point over a Barnes solid copper any day. Even though the Berger bullets are expensive, I think they are one of the best hunting bullets made. I prefer bullets that penetrate a few inches and then explode in the vitals rather than a bullet that stays together. The Hornady Amax is also a great hunting bullet even though Hornady states its only for target.

      ColdWarWarriors totally agree. the classic cup and core bullets still work wonderfully on game. Sierra Gamekings and Pro Hunters, Speer Hot Cors, Hornady Interlocks, Remington Core Lokts, etc. I've got them all. And one of my favorite premium bullets is the Speer Grand Slam. I can't believe how many people have forgotten about the Grand Slam. they were originally designed to compete with the Nosler Partition, which they still do. Everyone these days thinks that you need a premium bullet for everything, which is simply not true. Today's sportsmen have been brainwashed by the ammo companies, I mean think about it, look at the people who only think that the 12 gauge Magnum loads will kill birds reliably.

Upon inspection, all three shots were within a 6" group, two exploded on the surface of the ribs, the third bullet made it into the chest cavity and exploded there. CATASTROPHIC BULLET FAILURE!!! No more federal ammo, going back to my Nosler Partitions, hunting for 60 years, never a failure with Nosler or Hornady.
