    I know a lot of people call Anakin's motivations for turning to the Dark Side 'selfish', but the way that Sidious seduced Dooku was kind of similar, and there are parallels with what happened to other Jedi who fell as well.
    Basically, Palpatine never really *admitted* to being a Sith before his duel with Windu. All he really admitted to was studying both the light and dark sides. He made the Dark Side seem attractive and made his Jedi victims think that dark side powers could be used for some good reason without consequences. With Dooku to bring about change and root out corruption in the republic, and with Anakin to save the ones he loved.
    He basically took two disaffected Jedi and used their good motives to tempt and turn them.

    • @decepticonxhunter4850
      @decepticonxhunter4850 3 года назад +10

      Palpatine didn't correct Anakin when the latter said "you're the Sith Lord we've been looking for", so that was an admission on Palpatine's part. Anakin and Dooku might have had good intentions, but they should've known better than to let a Sith convince them the dark side could be used for noble ends.

    • @englishlady9797
      @englishlady9797 3 года назад +36

      @@decepticonxhunter4850 The response was typical Palpatine. Calm nonchalance. He presented the Sith as simply a legitimate religion, which in a sense it was. A heretical version of the Jedi religion devoted to the Dark Side.
      When Windu confronts him, he gives an eloquent response about having read the constitution and seeing nothing in it about it being illegal to be a Sith. Which is correct. Its not illegal. He even tells Windu that persecuting a person for their philosophical beliefs is illegal in itself, and he can't be arrested simply for being interested in the Sith.
      Which is actually true.
      That's what Palpatine did. He used the law to tie people in knots. They could not prove anything with regards to him being a Sith lord or causing the Clone Wars, because as far as most people could see he had no supernatural force abilities (except maybe telepathy, which most force sensitives had).
      As far as most people knew Dooku was behind the Clone Wars. Which he kind of was- he persuaded Sifo Dyas to order the Clones, he created the Inhibitor Chips, and he actually did genuinely subscribe to many aspects of the Seperatists cause. He also hated the Republic.
      They literally only had his word on everything else. Most Jedi did not consider Dooku a reliable source after a certain point.
      I suspect another reason Palpatine did not deny it is he knew Anakin himself was not sure, and that the Jed council had ruled him out. What proof did he really have? "He knows about he ways of the Force"? That proved nothing. There were force users who were neither Sith nor Jedi. Anakin had nothing on him: and he knew it.
      As far as saying that he and Dooku 'should have know better', I say 'why'?
      The Jedi literally taught their members next to nothing about the Dark Side. They didn't tell them how temptation worked or anything of the sort.
      Their approach was akin to a strict religious cult who just tells its members all drugs are evil without explanation.
      It was made worse by the Jedi telling people that their natural feelings and emotions were evil and of the Dark Side (or a path to it). Now I'm not saying that acting in anger is not wrong, per se, but simply feeling anger is normal. Its a natural human emotion. We all feel it sometimes.
      Now I've lived with an emotionally abusive person who would tell me my feelings were wrong and evil, and try to invalidate them, and I will tell you right now that the natural response to that type of thing is to kick against the goads.
      So the Jedi's approach clearly was not working. They didn't educate or equip their members, so no, Anakin and Dooku should not have known better. They weren't in a position to do so.
      Although Dooku as a master had more access to certain knowledge and Jedi text. Poor Anakin was told he was going to fulfill a prophecy he never fully understood and wasn't even allowed to read.
      A religion and a person who told them their feelings, beliefs and emotions were not evil is appealing. Certainly more so than a group which tells you to supress your feelings or only use them in the service of a corrupt political system.

      Vader did want to turn back every single waking moment after Padme's death but he was too far gone by this point in time that he truly believed that there was no going back. remember what Vader said to Luke in episode 6.
      "It is too late for me my son" Vader at that point had truly believed that he was beyond saving and that he couldn't be redeemed he truly thought he was a dead man walking. to be honest the only reason he still fought for the Empire and served Sidious is because he had nothing to truly fight for. the galactic alliance would NEVER accept one of their biggest foes joining their ranks no matter how big the advantage he presented.
      and if we were to take The force unleashed into account (It's a game that could still be canon if Disney simply said so) Vader in a weird way was responsible for creating the rebel alliance int he first place because he told Starkiller to gather rebels and traitors to the empire in a weird way i think that was Vader's own way of revenge against Sidious.

    • @0Bonaparte
      @0Bonaparte 4 года назад +4

      Gamernlte also true, essentially trying to join the rebellion was a one way ticket to death. Either the rebellion did their best to kill him and succeeded, or they failed and the rebellion is dead and Palapatine kills him for trying to join them, OR they let him join and Papa Palpy kills the rebellion himself Vader included.

    I think darth Vader regretted joining sidious as soon as he ended up in that suit and realized his position within the galactic empire as Emperor's favorite lapdog. But the fact that he could never leave the suit is one of the reasons he didn't leave the sith until return of the jedi because even if he quit the sith he'd still be stuck in that suit and everyone would instantly recognize him as the terror of the galaxy

He seemed to be nearly done for, but you notice the moment Windu is put out of action Palps is totally fine. Even after being blasted with his own lightening. It literally had almost no effect on him, except making his face deformed.
      In comics, Palpatine's lightening is crazy powerful. He can like blow up things with it. Its almost like he wasn't even going full power on Windu.

    That kind of trickery seems to be how most Sith gain their apprentices.
    They take immature, angry, confused, adolescents (typically ones who have gone through some kind of trauma), and offer them an "easy" way to solve all of their problems.
    Intelligent, and clever as he was, even Palpatine fell into this trap.
    He was angry that his father didn't love him, and frustrated by what he saw as his parents holding him back.
    So when Darth Plaugus demanded that in order to become accepted into the order, Shiv had to first kill his entire family, he did.
    Both his parents, and all four of his brothers and sisters, cut down by lightsaber, by his own hand.
    But even Palatine regretted what he had done; angrily accusing his master of taking advantage of a confused, angry young boy, several years later, as he killed him.

    He wasn't referring to the clone wars but to literally just before the death star being destroyed where he was in command of armies and fleets he just usually dealt with more important missions like with Thrawn or against the Jedi and rebels. Yes he followed Tarkin's orders but Vader respected Tarkin and Vader was still able to do anything he wanted when he wasn't protecting the death star. By the end of this comic run Vader commands the entire Imperial military from his superstar destroyer.

    I think to make Anakin more sympathetic, he should have done it for more than just to save padme. Padme is a big part of it, but if he learned how to not only create life, but save people from dying, he would do whatever he could to learn this power. He wanted Palpatine dead the moment he was told he was a Sith lord and wanted to get rid of him to rule along side padme. He would save his wife but also numerous people and be a true messiah by saving people and preventing wars and all it cost was the senate and Jedi order, two groups he thought were corrupt and outdated.

    • @englishlady9797
      @englishlady9797 3 года назад +9

      Both the Senate and the Jedi are depicted as increasingly corrupt and morally bankrupt in the movies, novelizations and EU (comics, etc). I do think the Clone Wars series should be bought in more though, as during that Anakin and other really a lot more of the rottenness at the heart of the Republic, and that was not just caused by Palpatine.

    The jedi leadership seem to take the same tact that the Imperium does in 40k. They act like ignorence of evil is the best defense. I find it interesting that the Jedi that are the best at combating the Sith and resisting the pull of the dark side of the force are those who study it and truly understand it for what it is.
    In warhammer 40k this is called the armor of contempt. The knowledge that you know what that great enemy offers you and you have seen where the end of that road lies. You have seen these things, and whether it is the darkside of the force or the demon whispered promises of the warp, you want nothing to do with them.

    That's what I don't understand.. his age. In Ep 3 when Padme is giving birth, Anakin is young.. maybe 25ish? When we get to Ep 4, Luke is trying to join the academy so he's roughly what.. maybe 20? That puts Vader at 45.. by the time Return of Jedi comes around, it's about 4 years.. so at most, Vader should be around 50ish give or take a few no? That's still pretty young but they made him look like a senior citizen. Am I missing something? lol

      He got burned up pretty bad and it’s said that the suit is really painful on him. He’s probably just super worn out, kind of like Obi-Wan. I think in legends there’s some issue of sith aging faster or becoming more decrepit the longer they’re involved with the Darkside?
      At the end of the day under all the theories, basically they just picked an old guy to wear the suit while the cameras were rolling. 😂

    Maybe Anakin found peace in being around the clones due to less emotional noise. The clones seemed to have a more purpose/objective driven life to where other ppl have much more emotional exuberance. Ani/Vader seemed to be a huge empath to EVERYONE/EVERYTHING around him. His sorrow for growing up a slave and leaving his mother behind to have this fantastic life allowed him to focus on the negative side of decisions that were made. A revolving door of loathing yet pride behind every single accomplishment. Its absolutely maddening to get lost in.
