  • We all know that Darth Sidious was not in love with lightsabers, in fact he only wielded them just as a spite to the weakness of the Jedi that rely on them and this ultimately led him to the Sith convert, his student Darth Vader.

@@harlandeke Its because of those very reasons that the rule of two was instated as being a dark side force user, those individuals would be endlessly power hungry and would create so much infighting that it would counteract any goals they would have of defeating the Jedi and ruling the galaxy.
It also helped the Sith grow stronger as the force wouldn't be spread out among so many users and the act of being Alpha meant that they were made to stay on top of their game in an effort to survive any attempt their apprentice would have on their life.

It’s kind of a forced tradition. The master will pick someone to become powerful, a bit like a trophy but also like a pet. I don’t believe any master truly believes the apprentice is more power than him, until the apprentice slaughters them. Like you say sociopathic narcissistic people can’t imagine anyone else being better than them. When the apprentice attacks, the master will fight for his life. Power decides the fate.

    • @Bklyn93
      @Bklyn93 3 года назад +610

He was definitely scared that, even despite being injured, Vader had the power to eventually overthrow him, yes. As much as Sidious believed in the Sith, he did NOT believe in the Rule of Two. Sidious was in a way a corruption of the Sith; he viewed HIMSELF as the Sith - the only truly necessary Sith, anyway. Even though he knew a natural part of the Sith Code was that the student would one day murder the Master, he was afraid of this, and afraid of Vader's potential. He wanted to live forever as the sole Sith, perhaps using Vader as a weapon or as his eyes and ears in the Galaxy.
So yes, he was afraid of Vader. He knew Vader still had the potential to be more powerful than him. Keeping him down, messing with his already severely depressed mind was a way of keeping him on a leash. Because he was afraid of what Vader might be capable of without any sort of leash.

  • @Halloween111

Originally, the explanation for the red blade was that the Jedi controlled all or most of the locations where Kyber crystals formed. The sith had to produce synthetic crystals for their blades and that process always resulted in a red crystal. They liked the color as a symbol of their order and kept it up even as the Jedi were scattered. The death star used Giant Kybers in it's main weapon and the beam is green so they could get Natural kyber crystals but preferred the red ones for personal use. The synthesized crystal explanation is more straightforward and pragmatic but I will concede that here is a certain mystique to the "bleeding the crystal" thing, though, that fits the sith mindset. The real reason for the colors was to provide contrast for the optics of the film. For example, Luke's green blade was used in Jedi because they found that a blue blade was impossible to make out against the blue sky; particularly in the Sarlac pit battle. It was also easier to tell who's blade was doing what in other fight scenes like Obi Wan vs Vader in the first movie. The lore that evolved from the Light saber blade colors is pretty fascinating.

I really wish for a High Republic world-building issue where we learn how Vader's predecessors acquired their red blades. Vader sort of had it easy; he was out openly hunting Jedi survivors, who had no Ordervto support them. Sidious, Plagueis, and Tenebrous had to find their Jedi conveniently, and kill them without drawing attention to themselves, while knowing that the Order would eventually determine their fate. Who did the eccentric starship designer, or the philanthropic banker, hunt down and kill? Where did they bleed their crystals? Did the Jedi note how these Knights died? Were killed, and their lightsabers taken? I think Sidious had to wait several decades to make his saber. I wonder what Jedi met their end at that sociopath's power? He also had several sabers, so did he have to kill a handful of Jedi? Was he a Senator by this point? I know it is not important, but it's the kind of support content I just really love to see.

After hearing Sidious whine about how "weak" he made Vader, I find myself genuinely craving a canon vision of Darth Vader with no more cybernetics than Anakin had at the start of episode 3. • @AzayBae

Sidious is fronting. In a canon novel set 5 years after Revenge of the Sith he thinks to himself Vader is stronger than before the suit. The writers confirmed canon Vader lacking limbs doesn’t hinder him at all either.
Except maybe making lighting unusable for him. I haven’t seen him or anyone mention him not using force lightning in canon.
I think Sidious surpassed Vader around A New Hope though.
Vader tried to rebel after Empire Strike Back and his defeat caused him to accept his place and legit try to kill Luke if he doesn’t turn to the dark side.

The biggest gripe I have is his "translation" style, where he states a lot of the events point for point and includes many unnecessary details. But it's also not done for all of the events. Just some of them. Idk. It's probably just a personal preference for videos talking about stories like these to instead be summarized, and often with some analysis.

Meaning that if he becomes the master, those arts die out, but no other apprentice can ever hope to take Vader's position, as he is too strong. Also lacking in the field of politics, sith sorcery, people manners, intrigue and a lot more that would be need for leading the Empire. Meaning that the Sith Empire would shortly becoming nothing, after Vader is a master.

You don't waste that much money on something you hate.
He'd probably carry them with him all the time if they didn't give away his identity as a Sith Lord. Also, he was confident that he'd never find an opponent he couldn't subdue with the Force alone, which, in the end, was his downfall; think of how Endor could've ended in a much different way if Palpatine had a lightsaber to cut Vader down when the latter yeeted him into the Death Star's core...

I still can't help but think of Light saber as a weapon of the Jedi and the Sith didn't really use them. Never in the original Trilogy was the red light saber a symbol of the Sith but rather a relic from Vader's Jedi past. Palpatine refers to the lightsaber as "A Jedi's Weapon" and belittles it in RotJ. Prequels kinda threw that concept out the window.

"Ok, ok, sh, sh, I'm sorry I didn't mean that, I'm just a little stressed right now... still making payments on the first station. Teenagers blew up my prized war machine... that's all..." Palpatine tries to placate Vader, who at this point was curled up on the turbo elevator floor in the fetal position, muttering something about his dead wife and rocking himself back and forth, with that rhythmic mechanical respirator punctuating the awkwardness of the entirely too small space Palpatine and Vader shared at that moment...
