I'm glad Daddy Hoff highlighted sound, it's a big deal for me. In a small house and my daughter has some sensory issues around loud sounds. Plus I don't want to wake up the house if I make a cup early. I use a 1zpresso for that reason, but I appreciated he included sound comparisons. I get that many people don't have those issues, so I understand why it isn't highlighted in other reviews.
Agreed. I started with a blade grinder that was ridiculously loud, and it taught me that I absolutely do not want to have to tolerate such a racket early in the morning (or even in the evening if I make some dessert coffee). My 1ZPresso Q2 is great for me but it's a little small for making bigger batches, so I'm still thinking of adding another grinder. Maybe I should get something like an Ode 2 secondhand and give it a few runs; if I don't like it, I could resell it for little to no loss.
“Hoffman did a review, so now that saves you 30 minutes of lance doing the reviews.” This video is an hour long… It added an extra 30 to get the same information 😂 Love the video 👍
Please, when you do the ‘54, please, please, please talk about how ANY alternative burrs taste (and cost) and what burrs are available, or will/ could be available. Potential burr upgradability is a factor in my decision to either buy the ‘54, or save more for a 64mm grinder. If I can be 90% happy with a 54 with other burrs vs say the 064S at half the price, I’ll get the ‘54. If, a 64mm grinder is very noticeably better, I’ll save up an buy the more expensive grinder. If you can give the ‘54 a letter grade to match your previous mass comparison, even better.
@ I did. But my understanding of Eurika’s burrs is that they’re more of a “traditional,” medium through dark roast kind of thing. I’m looking to get the most of the light roasts I prefer. And not just for espresso.
To be fair, he had 5 grinders. He rated it in the middle- better than Smart grinder and varia. Inferior to df54 and baratza (due to changing grind size). What's the third letter of the alphabet.... Hahaha!
Nice comments by papa Lance! Have DF54. It was my first grinder. Works perfect. After 6 months using it hits upgraditis and want to experiment with burrs. Bought DF64 and SSP HU burrs. To compare both I like DF54 workflow more. It has more silent motor, better indicator with prolonged graduation for each 5 steps, fantastic plastic see through dosing cup and it is more compact and cleaner. On other side DF64 is faster and of course aftermarket burrs do they job. But for money DF54 is a killer grinder. P.S. daddy Hoff has older version of DF54 with plastic switch in this video and no rubber 45 degree catch cup angler. So it might be one of the first iterations of this grider. You should take it to consideration I think P.S.2 for Lance I would like to see video about DF54 burrs selection and motor rewire to go to other side as a lot of 54mm burrs are designed to spin in other direction than DF54 grinder spins. Some hardcore shit on this cheap grinder as Gaggia with gaguino mods. Who knows, how it goes 😁

Hey Lance! Great video, as usual! Let me ask you a question... Do you believe a DF64 gen 2 or a Timemore Sculptor (either the 64s or the 78s, since I'd be more focused on espresso) would make a valid upgrade from a Breville? If so, which one would you go for? Either one would represent a considerable investment here in Brazil, due to the astronomical shipping and import taxes...
I think on value proposition alone, the df54 is the best. all the other grinders try to market themselves in the $200 area but are really lacking in the quality of build materials compared to the giant hunk of metal that is the df54. The opus is $195 (which I think is an absurd price based on my personal experience using one) and the df54 is $230. for $30 more I think you're getting something that is really leaps and bounds ahead in terms of build quality and access to the flat burr
I also came to the comments to point this out. I like to watch these longer videos while washing dishes, and it wasn’t possible at even the highest volume on my phone. Not a huge deal, I’ll watch it some other time, but I thought Lance might like to see this feedback
1.5 was a little to much but definitely bearable. was fun to watch james video knowing almost all that info from previous your videos) interisting how would you rate cups from kingrinder K4 and K6 in comparison to these 5 electric grinders.

Couple remarks though: 1.5× is simply too fast, especially for non-native English listeners. Putting yourself over results-graphs etc.-is silly, you have three other corners. Do the Ditting burrs really fit? They maybe can be screwed in the attachment but aren't they cutted for grinders running in the opposite direction than the Df54, are they? That would be a nice aspect for your upcoming DF54 review!
I just upgraded from the Smart Grinder Pro which I’ve had for 10 years to the df83v. Biggest problem with the Smart Grinder was consistency. I could occasionally get out super chocolatey espressos but it was hard to replicate and would more often than not come out too sour or bitter to drink in anything but a latte. The DF, of course, has been much more consistent and with the flat burrs, I can now taste the lemongrass when the tasting notes say lemongrass on the bean.

I don't like James? what?! that's wild. I am good friends with James. very weird take away
Watching Lance speed up to 1.25 as I’m watching in 1.75 on an already meta video… 🤌🏻
Nice format and nice « indirect » collab (I guess James Hoffmann gave his consent and I see that positively)
