Yes great upload...I'm a Die hard Parra fan since 76...great sides both these teams...had the pleasure of meeting a few players from both sides over the year..martin.eadie.harvey Price. sterling Still..go Parra
I enjoyed the match.Parramatta played great for three quarters of the match. It's a shame Cronin couldn't kick more goals.Even though Parramatta built up a strong 11-2 lead,it still seemed not truly indicative the way Parramatta were playing. They had 3 tries to Manly's nil. A lead of 17-2 would have been a better indication. The last quarter of the match Parramatta fell away badly.Parramatta were a real chance of winning the comp that year.In fact during the mid to late 70s they had an extremely teasing period. They came so close to winning 76 and 77 premierships.Even 1979 they were a big chance. They got to the preliminary final that year. They were defeated by Canterbury. However the 80s finally paid dividends for Parramatta. They won 4 premierships.
I think at 14:40 Hartley actually lightly tackled John Peard and then penalised him. Maybe Hartley was at marker so he should have played the ball instead.
Thanx for this big Rex’s calls are wonderful ( wouldn’t get passed thought police!!)Rex knew more than he said Sterling only 18 ! Rex knew he was special Beetson still amazes me his ability to offload! Mick Cronin more than just a kicker (add to it he was blind in one eye thanx I believe to that thing Les Boyd who was responsible for so much damage to ppl to League mum didn’t want there kids to play this awful game always showed Boyd’s lowlights! And they all had jobs !!!!
An endless succession of penalties to Manly from Greg Hartley of course. During Manly’s semi finals run in 1978, Hartley was man of the match in every one of them lol. What a hopelessly biased referee he was. No wonder four clubs (Parra, Wests, Souths and Cronulla) all lodged official complaints about him.
Peard tackle taps the ball then passed.ref give penalty.agains him.eels where never going to win that game .7 tackles etc.match fixing even back in 1978.
1963 grand final openly discussed as fixed. Wests players were told they won't get the result against Stgeorge. But in 78 Cronulla, Wests and Parra all one by one dealt with on and off the field to get Manly over the line. Hartley under instructions changed the course of games and seasons. He should have been in Long Bay. Such a bent game back then.
@@absoluteb22 Agreed. Manly wouldn’t have even made the GF in ‘78 if not for Hartley. Four clubs lodged official complaints about him. Hardly a coincidence. Fortunately he got the tap on the shoulder after his one sided refereeing of the 1980 GF. Never refereed another GF after that. He then went on to the next phase of his career, as an extremely ordinary football caller.
At 21:10 Hartley gives a penalty to Parramatta when any decent referee would have let them continue play as Manly had huge gaps out wide. He was a conniving bastard.
Legendary game , awesome upload !!!! Cheers Retro Rugby League .
The best days of Rugby League !!
Thank you ive been wanting to watch this game forever!!!
Thanks for uploading...have never seen this game
I'll never forget this game. Great Manly come back. One of John Harvey's best games.
Great upload. Thank you Jason. Keep 'em coming mate :)

@@neil2550 Thanks for sharing mate!
Damn Russel Gartner was quick.
I'l never forget that try. The whole stadium was electrified
yeah same mate, thankyou, heard about this game so many times. Great to finally see it.
Was good to see Peter sterling in his first full game

I was at this game ,,Sterlo,,too short that day
And haven't won since and probably won't again.
Great to watch these old games!
And…… who is the blonde headed ball boy? I bet he likes to watch himself with all these footy legends.
I think at 14:40 Hartley actually lightly tackled John Peard and then penalised him.

Hartley deffo took up a marker position. He sure didn't like Parra back then.
Awesome upload. What a match. As great as Ray Price was he was a dirty, grubby player & cost the Eels this match with his dog shot on Eadie.
This occurred a week exactly after the 1978 NRL semifinal match ended in a draw.
It occurred 3 days after the draw. The match took place on the Wednesday following the draw on Sunday.
Russell Gartner was a fantastic player at his best - his speed was the difference .
The Human Greyhound, brilliant runner of the ball.
Fucking fast.
Was at this game
The day J.okeefe died I think

Great game , sad that the game has gone from this to the unwatchable garbage it is today, always good to see my old PE teacher Steve Knight have a run

The old Seventh tackle try,,s. Martin,,Parramatta ripped off
Well it was Greg Hartley after all
They put a bomb up between half way and the 22. How could Hartley have engineered that?
@@Royalpaininbum Four clubs complained to the NSWRL about Hartley. That’s no coincidence. Worst ref since the St. George era.
we need to use AI to sharpen these old games.
Can see why Steve Edge was Parramatta captain in 1981 watching this game, Price tried to intimidate the Referee and didn't do himself any favors.
Price was off the field in this game?

He sent Manlys John Gray off when it was 11-2 Parramatta way. You sure it was rigged?
@@absoluteb22 1962 GF footage shows a Wests player held off the ball at the tryline when looking to score. Saints got lucky two years in a row.

@johnmatthews8810 bulldogs supporter hartley
Price was a poor captain. A good player but a constant whinger. His antics cost “Parra” 2-3 premierships
Maybe. But it’s no coincidence the Eels fell into a heap when he retired.
Who won
Giv ya self un upercut
Bollocks. Price was right to complain. Hartley was only refereeing one side, as usual.
