I remember, even as a kid, I could tell that Claremont was probably left-leaning, but his stories were almost always nuanced and deftly crafted. Unlike today's ham-fisted propaganda in comics.

Back then writers and creatives knew how to seperate themselves from their art and put their heads in the worlds of characters, and also add subtext without it being preachy

@@ChrisMacPresents Exactly. They were at least professional enough to prioritize the work over their personal subjective opinions.

@@SamGuthrie1977 I was watching the documentary, Chris Claremont's X-Men and He, Louise Simonson, and Ann Nocenti stated that it was wild what a lot of the writers believed, but they still came together to write a comic about the Pope for Marvel per the request of the Pope himself.

@@ChrisMacPresents Yeah, I remember the scene you're talking about. Where all three of them are sitting on the couch.

@SamGuthrie1977 especially the part where Chris is talking about meeting a lady whose husband said she had to stop reading the comics and she broke into tears. He said he was taken aback that she was going to lose something of value to her:
"As a creator, as a writer, as a person, I not only have to respect that, I have to do my best to be worthy of that. If someone is going to commit to this work, to my work, to these characters with that level of intensity, I have to make the characters and the stories worth that commitment and find a way to fulfill the promose."
This a far cry to modern creators that verbally assault fans, making products stating "this is going to piss fan boys off, hahaha"
Definitely a generational difference and how much respect has been lost.
