    The only part of Small Soldiers that is completely impossible was shown in this video and just entirely glossed over:
    As shown in the movie, the toys were *printed out as fully formed figurines*. So... No, they wouldn't have been able to move on their own at all. Even ignoring that and looking at what the original idea was for them, posable limbs alone isn't enough to make them move, they need internal parts to act as muscles to make them move. Otherwise, no matter how advanced a computer chip inside of them, they won't be able to move on their own. The main toys were not designed capable of automatic movement, its the equivalent of placing a computer chip in a Barbie.
    If designed properly, then yes, toys that are printed out and are capable of walking, talking, and kicking ass on their own are entirely possible. Well, to an extent, of course. Even now, AI isn't advanced enough for the kind of precise movements they can manage in the movies, nor the levels of intelligence some were shown to have (the Commando Elites were just copying their TV counterparts for their motivations, but the Gorgonites were far more intelligent and free thinking).
    So not *quite* as advanced as in the movie, but yeah, not too far off. Just enough that the whole "kids toys terrorizing the neighbourhood with their own war and nearly killing innocent people" part wouldn't happen, unless they were specifically design to do that (hopefully not the case for a toy)

    • @markthecruel1055
      @markthecruel1055 3 года назад +4

      The fully formed figures we see originally in this vid are the prototypes. Just after in the movie we see the internal mechanisms being made which is exactly the way the puppets are made for the movie. Also take a look at the Boston dynamics vids

    • @makairidah8354
      @makairidah8354 3 года назад

      Kinda funny you say that since the commandos actually did put chips on barbies and yer for some reason they moved on their own
      Those dolls cant even stand on their own, the fact that someone thought that they should walk and jump in the movie still baffles me to this day

    • @makairidah8354
      @makairidah8354 3 года назад

      Also something that is also a design flaw its the gorgonites themselves
      The guy played by that actor from arrested development designed them as peaceful but the toyline redesigned them as the bad guys..so why its their programming making them docile and friendly? By design alone they should be programmed to be more violent and agresive than the commandos so how is it that the commandos follow their intented purpose yet somebody progamed the gorgonite chips to follow their original concept?

    • @Generalphoenix8438
      @Generalphoenix8438 2 года назад

      I think that's what made the x1000 quite interesting. An ai that can only learn through the boundaries of its PRIMARY PROGRAMMING. So if we programmed a an ai with this chip to be peaceful and wanting to learn how to co exist with humans. That robot would then follow that and perhaps create things to be accepted. It makes you wonder if that's how we should programme some ai to simply build and live with humans incase they do become sentient somehow but still follow that programme.

    • @corvididaecorax2991
      @corvididaecorax2991 2 года назад

      @@Generalphoenix8438
      The problem turns out to be just how complex and nuanced 'peaceful and wanting to co-exist with humans' actually is. It may be able to be done, but it isn't simple and is quite easy to screw up. If you get it 99% right but forget something small with a sufficiently powerful AI it can turn out far worse than just all of us dying.

    Hey Lord Ravenscraft, the step shown in the movie likely isn't an alcohol bath and is just the initial curing, as there really are laser based resin printers.
    The machine in the movie works insanely quickly, but maybe they're just using better resin that the $45/kg Amazon stuff that we use in our DLP machines.
    There's also a process called SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) where you use lasers to melt powder (either plastic or metal) into the shape you want, although this isn't that.

    Not an alcohol bath actually. Early SLA resin printers pulled a perforated platform down into clear resin and ran a laser along the surface; this kept the vat at a consistent volume through the entire print. Then the finished print raises up out of the resin to be removed from the build platform and cleaned.

    Because no a neural network is not even close to real neurons, it's literaly orders of magnitude weaker, less efficient and less complex... But it works good enough for most purposes so who cares, you aint going to get a self learning general artificial inteligence with neural networks but it is capable of some impresing feats for a computer

    I’m not the best at wording things so I’m a bit anxious about getting tone right - but I want to start by framing everything I’m about to type as a compliment.
    I king of put off watching this video, cause I never watched Small Soldiers and the basic concept didn’t really interest me. But I eventually figured hey I love your other videos so I might as well give it a shot. And (of course) I really enjoyed this video!
    Something that was especially nice to me was how relatable you were. Like instead of watching something that I don’t understand or could never get close to achieving, I felt more like I was hanging out with a really smart friend and doing crazy experiments. I could still never get close to achieving it :P but I realised that feeling of hanging out with a friend who is teaching me all this amazing stuff that I never realised or really thought about before is really consistent in all your videos. It’s like you’re helping me to be smarter, but in a very friendly, para-social-y way where I just feel like we’re friends and you’re telling me about all these amazing things you’ve discovered or are experimenting with. I have a couple friends in real life who are like that, so that kind of friendship (parasocial or not) is really special to me and it just adds to the knowledge and learning that I was already enjoying getting from your channel.
    I guess for a TLDR you could say your channel has a really nice friendly vibe and I’d like to think we would be friends if we encountered each other in the real social world? I dunno :P but whatever it is I’m trying to say it’s that your channel is cool and I’ve only been subscribed for a few weeks but it’s definitely become one of my favourites in that time and I look forward to hearing about whatever you feel like telling us about (and educating us about :P ) next

    Honestly.... The figures you see at the beginning of the " In Production" scene are in fact concept figures. Models that would show what the product would look like after being finished. It is for the workers to have reference when looking over the product before boxing. This ensures there was nothing wrong with paint or other things. If you watch the scene again, you can see how each figure is actually made. Could you print the outer shell of the figure?? Yes! Though in reality I am not sure where you'd find a way to have the figures do what they do in the movie. Besides the two way communication and the fact they could talk to one another. But that is with the tech we have already developed.

    I find it glorious that Tommy Lee Jones (who voices Maj. Chip Hazard) says the line "best of the best" which was also a line in MIB 1 said by Will Smith
