The other way around: I would feel so awkward walking into an American store and asking them how they are doing! I'm also never sure how to respond when I'm being asked how I am doing (by the cashier of a convenience store for instance). Such a fun little cultural difference. The word cookies is actually based on the Dutch word koekjes. This was in the period of New Amsterdam where we introduced a lot of Dutch things on the American continent. Just like al the street names (Wallstreet/Muurstraat) and neighborhoods (Brooklyn/Breukelen)
To be fair most of these are enjoyed with a beverage, The 'dry' problem magically disappears then! It's kind of like they are made to be enjoyed like that: Liga's and Duo wafel with a glass of milk, Appelkoeken, Kaneelstokjes, Kanelly, Oranjekoek en Eierkoeken probably best with coffee or tea :)
I actually love marsepein and oranjekoek. They happen to be my favorite but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. I do love your Dutch way of speaking, great job!

I think part of the problem here is you bought all low quality industrial supermarket variants of these products. Most taste a lot better if you get the original pastry baker variants, but those would also be at least twice as expensive.

But what about , freshly made warm stroopwafels at a market. That just hits different then cold ones from the store. Those kanelly ones, i remeber those coming in chocolate too. I would eat boxes of those in a row if possible. Or from verkade, Cocos biscuits, how many of those i eaten.....

I'm born and bred in Limburg, the crap they sell in supermarkets as oranjekoek barely reseambles the real thing. A buddy of mine who was born and bred in Friesland treated us to it from time to time. Crap, I have so many more comparisons, but it all it boils down to this, buy local, buy from specialised people, they have the knowledge how to make things taste good, if we don't, everything is eventually going to taste the same.
There is a big, big, big diffrence in quality of eierkoeken. The packed cheeper ones you have bought are not tasty at all, mostly dry and flavourless. But you should buy and try the fresh baked ones from a good bakkery, the better ones have mostly a crusty bite at the edges, and the inside middle part is very tastfull and also a bit moist which makes it a lot nicer!
Marzipan/marsepein FTW! Kaneelstokjes, though... Mmmm 🤤 A Belarusian client of mine also told me he speaks in a much higher voice when speaking Dutch, while his voice is very deep and dark whenever he speaks in Russian.

You need to eat the fresh eierkoeken with butter and sugar. It is sort of like a thick pancake with double the amount of eggs. I loved them as a kid!

Kanelly's were actually designed to retain (at least some) structural integrity when soaked into tea. They were made for soaking into tea.
