Interestingly, we do have a gay couple in an Erin Hunter spin-off series, Bravelands. There are two important male lions who are explicitly said to be in a romantic relationship and that has gone with no controversy - or notability, for that matter. While it doesn't really mean much for Warriors, it does show that they are willing to include LGBT content in Erin Hunter brand, so it's not impossible that we'll get that with Warriors too... At some point.
I was floored when those two were confirmed. Before it was just subtext and saying they were good friends as well. Sneaky, sneaky writer able to squeeze that tiny tidbit through by sandwiching it between a list of other hetero relationships when they were mentioned.
When I first heard about that I was amazed, but I also wanted to laugh at how small of a line it was. It's a tiny line, but it means so much for an Erin Hunter book. I hope we'll be able to get something similar in Warriors, but I doubt it since it's a much bigger series that the publishers rely on more for profit
At the start of June, on the Warrior cats subreddit, someone made a head cannon about what part of the LGBT+ community they thought certain characters were a part of. Everyone joined in the comments. This one idiot went on a rant about how it was all “heterophobic” and “straight erasure” and when we gently pointed out that the Erin’s HAVE stated in the past that they would love to make LGBT+ couples but can’t because of the publisher and that Ravenpaw and Barley are as close to a canon gay couple as the Erin’s can make them without outright making them a canon gay couple, they doubled down by saying “can’t two dudes live in a barn together without it being gay?” Like… are you serious…? There is NOTHING hetero about their relationship… then this idiot started using Ravenpaw and Barley to prove his point about us being “heterophobic.” -__- after that, we just started telling them they’re a complete idiot and needed to shut the heck up.
@@Amberstarwarriors I very much was annoying. I had fun talking to people about their LGBT+ headcanons! I don’t know anyone IRL who reads the series and live with my uber ”Christian” grandma, so subreddits about those topics are where I get to talk about those things most, and it was nice talking to people about both! But TRASH people have to ruin things.
I always imagined Barley to be waaay older than Ravenpaw so when I was younger I was never into the ship because of that, but after reading Ravenpaw's novella I was super on board and it's been my fave LGBTQ+ ship in Warriors since. That being said, I was happy when in Bravelands, they [SPOILERS] stated that Fearless and Keen were canon in the second arc as they were said to be "a tragic romance" with no room for argument in the sentence itself - cleverly done whoever wrote that one bc there was no denying those two lions were simply close friends with how they acted around each other lol
This is by far my favorite ship in the entirety of the series. Their relationship is so wholesome and sweet, combined with them having hang-ups and working through them makes for one of most sweet and loving couples I've seen in the series so far. Me: So, are they more than friends? Authors: Best friends? Me: No, more than that. Authors: Mega best friends?
I feel like Ravenpaw & Barley and Tallstar & Jake are in a weird territory between canon and not canon. They’re both so close to being canon and we know they care about each other deeply but it can’t be stated outright. How frustrating! They both have some of the best developed relationships in the series.
Yep, in Ravenpaw's Farewell, I believe Riley asked that question. Both of them got flustered/embarrassed and said no. So going off that, and the fact I love this ship, I love to believe it's true.
I read Ravenpaw's Farewell for the first time a couple months ago. Part of me is still mad that it wasn't a super edition. Another part of me doesn't think I'd have been able to handle how sad it would've been as anything longer than a novella... 😢
When I read The Dawn of the Clans Arc last year I thought there was a lesbian couple in there, explicitly being called mates and all (background characters), but maybe they just made a mistake in the allegiance or I thought based on the names both were she-cats, because nobody ever talks about that
SPOILERS FOR A LIGHT IN THE MIST Has anyone ever heard of quantum mechanics? I'm obviously not an expert and just some guy online and quantum mechanics is so confusing and muddled that I don't feel confident even talking about it (basically grain of salt) but to my understanding the quantum world (The very very small) works a little differently than the world we live in. Particles that are on this scale, such as electrons, can exist in multiple places AT THE SAME TIME, even in a potentially infinite amount of spaces, and also exist in multiple places throughout time. Once this particle is observed, however, the quantum state collapses and the particle's location is fixed. So far this doesn't make sense but bear with me. **Spoilers** When Bristlefrost died in A Light In The Mist, the Warriors RUclipsr Bright Guardian Akira pointed out that there were two interpretations of the timeline, one where Bristlefrost dies and one where she doesn't. Both interpretations are referenced in the book itself, with Rootspring being able to "find" the alternative timeline. Akira claimed that if you accepted the variation where Bristlefrost lives, your word is none less valid than that of the authors. This is a claim some would not agree with, but I would argue for it, as many people say that books belong to the readers, and not the authors. Even if you do not agree with it, let's put in some perspective. When a reader is reading a book, some aspects of the book can only be filled in via interpretation. If two readers come up with two different interpretations, both are equally valid. What is your interpretation of the scene where Rootspring finds the alternate timeline? Let's ask a different question: Just how much of a book (or any form of media) is up for interpretation? Let's say a character tells their life story. This story will be considered canon and will go on all the wikis. But what if you, the reader, say to yourself: "Wait, by analyzing the thought patterns of this character, I notice that there is a very strong chance this character is lying". The book does not confirm your theory, and so you never find out. But does this make this interpretation null and void? Enter what I like to call "Quantum Fiction". This is the term I made for the idea that characters, and really anything if fiction, exist in a quantum state, in which they have an infinite number of interpretation that are ALL CORRECT AT THE SAME TIME. I believe this is how fiction works. After all, in the end it is...fiction. It is your job as the reader to come up with your definition, observe the storyline, and "collapse the quantum state". Do the books say RavenBarley is canon? No. Do you? Probably. So which is it? BOTH. AT THE SAME TIME. How is quantum literature practical? If there is not "canon", why even bother trying to figure things out? In physics, there is the quantum realm, but that's not all there is. We are not governed by quantum mechanics. If we are talking about canon, just as the writers said it, we would be talking about "classical literature". As we get more and more into interpretation, we start to go into quantum literature, just like in physics that smaller you go the more likely you are to be governed by quantum physics and the larger you go the more likely you are to be governed by classical physics (huge helping of salt on the physics part). You can be somewhere in the middle, or you can go full quantum and say "I don't care that the books say Ravenpaw's eyes are yellow or green or whatever. They're purple, and you can't change my mind". So according to this headcanons are just as valid as canon. Conclusion: I think we put to much emphasis on canon, and I love RavenBarley Great video btw
They're such good friends that in the Ravenpaw's Farewell manga their nest are directly next to each other
And they pretty much adopt two children.
They’re the bestest of friends like how the other cats suspected they might have kits, I too have kids with my best friend
Probably my favorite part of Ravenpaw's Farewell was when Bella asked Ravenpaw and Barley had kits. Like even a kit knew they were gay.
And yet she dosent know men can’t have children on their own lol (no hate)
Ravenpaw's Farewell made me cry. Im not ashamed to admit it
It’s so sad 😭
Agreed
