He's riding about right for the road. At least he doesn't seem like one of those idiots that decide it's 'fun' to do 150+ on public roads... I've lost a few friends who rode like that and it could have been avoided if they'd take the time to ride down to the local track on the weekends and really had a lot of fun there.
I had a 2010 S1000RR that I loved! The handlebar buzz got to me on longer rides at highway speeds. I'd have numb fingers for days! Also, as I got more into sport touring and riding a few hundred miles per day over a 3-4 day weekend, the seat became so uncomfortable. For track duty and shorter rides, the bike was amazing. It's a scalpel! Then I thought an S1000R would be a better compromise for my evolving riding tastes. So I bought a 2015 model, and while it was very fun, it had the same issues with buzzing and a terrible seat. I added weighted bar ends and a new Sargent seat (huge difference & it's fantastic!), but it still didn't do it for me. In 2016 I sold the 2015 S1000R and bought a 2016 Ducati Multistrada 1200S, and have had no regrets. It's got superbike performance and handling and is comfortable to ride, especially for those weekend trips. I have to admit though, I'd love to have an S1000RR in my garage though for those days I feel like riding a scalpel! Great job on the video!
Wow! Incredible information man, thanks for sharing. Very interesting that you ended up on the Multistrada, although I totally see myself moving that direction as well (cough cough s1000xr)
I test rode the S1000XR because I wanted to stay with BMW, but the buzz was worse than the S1000R or S1000RR. I so wanted it to work, but I knew I wouldn't be able to live with it. I believe they've tried to address this issue in the 2017 model, so might be worth a look.
Great video mate. I'm lucky enough to own a 15 S1000RR and a 15 Super Duke. I honestly don't know which one I would part with if I had to go with one bike only. They're both so different, and I love riding them for different reasons. If I were going to have one bike only.... I'm leaning towards a 17 Tuono as a middle ground. Better chassis and handling than the Duke but not a super bike like the BMW. More low down grunt than the BMW but less than the Duke... see why I can't choose.
They are certainly different enough to own at the same time. The Tuono really does split the difference between the naked and supersport world pretty well. I say you stick with you two beasts :P
DukeOfDC I'll hold onto both as long as I can. Family life may push me towards the Tuono, but I'd be a fool to complain about only having that bike. I've ridden the 1100 RR and Factory and it was the first bike I've test ridden where I've been confident enough to get a knee down without being worried about binning it because it's handling was natural and predictable. My only issue was that the electronics felt a bit abrupt when they kicked in. Anyway, keep the videos coming, good stuff.
Just got back into sports bikes having had a Tuono 1100 for 18 months. My previous 899 put me off sports bikes as I found it hard work, but the Daytona 675R i recently picked up is far more comfortable than the 899, and actually less cramped than Tuono!
Been commuting on my 2014 rr for 2 years. Love it, much better on gas than my car and way more fun. I live near Chicago and ride all the way to mid November depending on temps and start back up end of March or April. My bike doesn't seem to vibrate, maybe I don't notice it. As for the heat, any 200hp bike you drive in traffic is gonna get hot, this is not a BMW thing lol. Cool video tho.
Seems odd that your feet would get hot? What are you wearing for shoes? Would you be comfortable going on a say a 4 hour spirited ride on the RR without getting sore/fatigued.
In this video I am wearing my Alpinestar MX-5 riding boots and still a bit hot (although they're known for airflow). I'll have to get back to you later in the week on the long ride feeling.
DukeOfDC Was not disappointed! After your week with the S1000RR, I'd love to hear your thoughts about the pros and cons when compared to a super naked. I've always been curious that if super nakeds are 90% as good in terms of performance and WAY better in terms of comfort, are super sports really worth it for the street?
I will most certainly be giving a conclusion at the end of the week with a heavy focus on the comparison to my bike and all other motorcycles classes as well.
@DukeofDC Can you do a brief comparison between 2017 Super Duke and 2016 RR as I am bit confused I am getting both in same price KTM new RR used from BMW store I am 6.1 hight and bit healthy so my concern is do you have to be ultra fit to ride any of these on daily basis
I am anything but ultra fit, so to answer your question there, you can totally ride either bikes if you're just an average joe (although being healthy and fit certainly benefits all riders). As for a comparison, I would say the KTM will be your brap master general, hooligan machine whereas the S1000RR is a precision tool that could turn any windy road into a GP track. Best advice, buy that bike that makes you smile, makes you feel comfortable, and ultimately you can't make a bad decision with either.
Yo! You inspired this girl to create s channel AND I went to LA Moto. I had a recent interest in buying an RF LE number 38/200 made! Great price but I trade my Ducati baby in for a BMW S1000R 2017 Premium package with ALL the bells and whistles and only 670 miles. I’m putting new levers on Saturday. Quick shift and auto blip is like butter! I wish I could get as many subscribers as you have. I just don’t have the time to do much on the channel. Thanks to you and 650ib and Campisi! 😎
Layser-Focused Riding so happy to have inspired you!! Just checked out your channel! Lots of great potential. Would love to give you a couple pointers that I think could really help you out!
SpikeRR RSV4 is so much more engaging to ride. Inline 4 cylinders get boring super quick. Literally have no character to them. V4's are so much fun to ride plus the sound. The RSV4' s chassis is superb as well, telepathic handling almost.
I wouldn't say that this inline 4 has been getting boring, but completely agree that V4's aka the RSV4 has more character. Also, fully agree that the chassis is magical on the Aprilia.
the heating problem is the only reason I haven't bought this bike. I wonder if adding an aftermarket full titanium exhaust would it take away the heating problem.? and does the IMU allow you to break and corner? how durable are these bikes. I ride about 15k a year. I need durability and comfort.
Apparently all big(ger) cc multiple cylinder bikes have this problem. So when youre stuck in very slow moving traffic or in stationary position, you'll feel your thighs heating up. Much worse if its also a hot afternoon! I heard even a cb400 super 4 Revo is hot enough to give you red marks on your thighs! R1s & panigales are pretty bad too in this respect, ive been told.
jbdoggy I live in southern California and have an 05 r1 and it gets hot! if your stuck at a long light or multiple lights you roast. the fans kick on and blow all the hot air right onnyou haha..it never over heats tho.. think I might try adding an additive into the radiator to drop temps a bit
I ride a '16 Daytona 675R every day in Idaho (it gets really hot and cold here). It's an awesome every day bike IMO (ride about 10k miles per year season round). I really would like an S1000RR once my Daytona gets up there in miles. The Daytona doesn't get hot at all. The fans do kick in in slow traffic, but when its hot (90-105) I don't notice it from the bike, mostly just the surrounding air. And since it has lower top-end power than a liter bike, I can get it up in the revs often where it pulls hard... it is still very very quick but probably not "mental".
The RR is the only RSV4 that I was able to ride, but its similar to what you're asking about. The Aprilia is gruntier (more torque) and stiffer (non-adjustable suspension). All and all, the BMW would be my choice if it was a "own one bike only, to do it all" scenario.
Your question, ask it a different way because I have no idea what you're getting at lol. "How long have you been riding for DoDC?" I am the Duke Of DC aka DoDC... I've been riding for myself forever lol
LamurCribbVlogs the gixxer is just perfect as a starter bike. the r6 is amazing but a bit uncomfortable and very track focused. the 636 is In the middle of the two.
DukeOfDC first off all, I have ridden both and the 300 has no character in my opinion. The exhaust sound awful, they look weak, and they are pretty much very weak.
LamurCribbVlogs mate you can start on a hayabusa to be honest(maybe not) but is all about the mentality of you. if you can control power wisely you can start on anything
Would certainly sound better with a proper exhaust, but I don't mind the stock can on this. IMHO it's one of the better stock exhaust notes out there (except maybe the RSV4)
Taking it easy on the tire eh? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
650ib he is scared of his bike. "its such a good bike". 😂
I respect the power. Not quite at the scared level, but close lol
:D Taking it easy in comparison to you, Lord of the Smackdowns lololol

As I look at cycle trader for this bike now XD I'm lookin forward to the close up cinematic vid I'd love to get a closer look!
I'm a mind reader :D Possibly shooting the cinematic sequence tonight, so stay tuned for tomorrow "Living with a Superbike Part II"!
The Muscle Biker tmb get that h2 please
“I can feel a superior connection to the road” “So ridiculously planted” “Confidence inspiring” Lucky indeed!
I have a '16. Two words: Effortless awesomeness.
PS: Get some longer/heavier bar end weights. Worked for me.
Jeffrey Shultz I have 14 ounce weighted bar ends on mine and I wish I had done it sooner. They were about $85 but worth it.
Great info here, thanks guys!

Counter balanced upper lip valve & lower crank gobblegoop . Lol right on man
You should get a fender eliminator kit.
Man, I could listen to that engine all day. Thanks for the vid.
+slcea7 you're welcome! Thanks for the comment :)

I don't live with a super bike... I live with TWO... lol... 2018 S1000RR and 2019 Ducati V4 Panigale "Speciale"
Vibration is the greatest at 4000rpm where u were cruising at
Good to know, thanks man!

That bike is a beast! 👊🐢☠️
A freak of nature!
What do you think of that scottoiler? Good vid!
haven't even watched the video yet, but I'm super excited to hear your thoughts!

Loved that bike when I road it but yes, it's hot. Man, you gotta get that thing up higher in the rev range! ;-)
I'm a baby back bitch lol
Huh?
I know its been a while since you rode the RSV4, but how would you compare the 2?

Which event are you going to on Saturday?
Some biscuit place is opening up in the district and they're starting a weekly cars and coffee.
Can you post/pm the info on that? Would love to stop by there and at Katie's.

Let's see this type of vid for the R1 please
I'll see what I can do! I need to trade with JoeGo101 for a day or two :P
DukeOfDC Haha! That'd be sweet!

Thanks man! Also, meant to get back to you on twitter. Bikes and Breakfast was great! Hopefully you'll be able to make it out next time.
How long have you been riding for DoDC?
Wait what? I am DoDC lol
DukeOfDC I don't get it?
DukeOfDC It wasn't a loaded question.
Your question, ask it a different way because I have no idea what you're getting at lol. "How long have you been riding for DoDC?" I am the Duke Of DC aka DoDC... I've been riding for myself forever lol
DukeOfDC How long have you had your full road motorcycle licence sir? I can't put it any clearer old boy!
🔥🔥🔥🔥sick bike
Great content. How much did you pay for it?
I'm just borrowing it for the week from a friend that has my Super Duke, but I believe he purchased this new for close to MSRP.
see you all time passing my job
+Juan Wick hmmm, if it's this bike you're seeing then it's not me lol
Oh😐....I see..... awkward
Lol...I thought is was you
I like the ktm more!
I love the KTM as well, but it's close haha
You had me at countershafted fuckface.
LOL this was the first comment I read this morning and it made my day!
Nice video. But 12 miles is not a commute. So you not a commuter. lol 😁

lol. true so a mile is a commuter. i ride and hr to work...... but hell you can take metro. It's all good. nice bike
How do you know my 12 miles doesn't take over an hour lol. You must not be from Washington D.C. lol
I'm definitely from DC. So I do get the traffic problems. trust me.... lol
Remove that baffle. Takes all of 10 min.

Just need some salt and I'd be a walking snack mix XD
Getting an R6, 636 or gsxr for my first bike. Which one is most street friendly? Don't give me the you will die bullshit
Not a smart choice to go with a "big" bike as your first motorcycle, but of those two the 636 would be my pick.
Bike Life I have that same picture as a my profile picture. the R6 and 636 definitely have the looks. The Gixxer is very common in Georgia.
LamurCribbVlogs mate you can start on a hayabusa to be honest(maybe not) but is all about the mentality of you. if you can control power wisely you can start on anything
FFS change gear !!!!
meh doesn't sound good
Would certainly sound better with a proper exhaust, but I don't mind the stock can on this. IMHO it's one of the better stock exhaust notes out there (except maybe the RSV4)
DukeOfDC agreed
An Austin Racing Exhaust would sound amazing on this thing.
