But R&D by the consumers/engine builders was not instant. It’s taken a while to get from the 5/600hp of the late 80’s Touring car engineers to 1200hp these days.
Hp academy really got lucky with this interviewer. He listens closely, asks all the right questions so the viewers understand what’s going on (even the noobs). Then his voice is always clear and consistent Give him a raise. He makes the video
As a massive Ford fan its great to see you still using these legendary engines still over there Just sold my sapphire cosworth the yb is fantastic when built/setup properly 👌
This is an original pinto iron block as stated. I think that is a lot of reliability relative to the later model aluminium modern engines. the stud changes are pretty impressive as well. Very cool to see these 'retro' engines still pulling their weight with modern injection and turbos bolted on. I'd like to build up a BDA engine one day, but it'll be tough to get by the girlfriend!
I flippin love YBs. I know the SR20 is the fanboy engine of the universe, but YB is another level vs the normal DET versions. VET is an amazing head, but YBs seem to take more of a long term beating for track and rally use than SR blocks.
@@Realtime1501 because nobody uses YBs for drag engines normally. They’re legendary/successful rally and circuit race engines, unlike SR20s. By your ‘logic’ the best 4cyl on the planet are GM ones, the Ecotec and the XE, as that’s the fastest two drag 4cyls. And I doubt anyone would agree with that either...
@@StavTech Just in case you didn't watch the video, they are drag racing this car not rally or circuit racing it. So your argument about YBs vs SRs for track and rally use is irrelevant.
@@albertt7784 well done Albert, great spot. Yet you miss my point wildly. People not using them is people not using them. That’s very different to people have tried to use them but they don’t last, aka SR in rally/racing

He's had a had a long and illustrious career starting with Woodstock 69' 😎 Looks a bit naff but awesome at cutting out the wind noise so well worth it. If you watch any of our Pikes Peak content (other than the one were there's a generator running in the background 😅) and compare it to anyone else with footage of them talking while up at Pikes Peak hill climb, you'll see what I mean 😉 - Taz.
Depends how much it has been used. 1000hp+ engines require more work than a 100hp Toyota Camry, that's for sure with some components life span being measured in runs down the strip rather than kms when it comes to drag racing 😎 - Taz. ruclips.net/user/shortsCPxK_eI38SE?si=rO7WzcnUUX6PyHnS
The good old YB, designed 35 years ago!

Original block comes from the early ‘70s

I swear he said Alice, then my brain caught up and realised it was LS. Great interview as always Andre
Yeah he's got that NZ or Australian accent
YB's are just so iconic... I wish I could once have one in hand.... Thank you for sharing such a interview
That's awesome seeing a YB lump in an s15
Great video Andre
You have come along way from the unit in Tyres Road
History of formula one lasting 15 years
Cosworth... 💕
Love seeing guys using the smaller displacement stuff and making it work👍
Very very cool to see a YB in there 😎😎 very cool interview too thoroughly enjoyed this one!!
Hey up mad Matt. You need to feature this on your IG.. got to qualify as Gangsta shit.
Look at all the room for activities in that engine bay.
I wish I had my old 3dr cosworth with 1200hp Awesome.

Love it yb fixed the s15
Thanks for taking us into the pits for real conversations with people who know their stuff.
Cosworth !!!
Hammer engine!
holy shit so much nifty tech makes my head spin. Pity there was no pass or at least some engine sound in the clip. :)
Argh those long wires to the ignition coils really hurts my eye =))

2 of the top 10 fastest 4 cylinder drag passes of all time are Sr20 ,Yb's are on a level below yes

Work of art
It is using a fueltech. Very nice.
Love to see a set up like that in a whale tail cossie 😎😎👌👀
It's weird seeing a Aussie go with this type of setup in an S15 -I've actually never really heard of anyone even using this motor! obviously works...
that would be an awesome engine in an eb xr6
How much output can the YB produce with NA only tuning?
Around 330-350 @ 10k rpm
hi, i saw a fueltech ecu, you didn't mention it, is it good ? and reliable ?
Do like to know how the cylinders hold up and not crack. Liners?
