  • Part One of this October Solo Canoe Trip - back to one of the prettiest lakes in the Algonquin backcountry. Along the way I have an amazing up close encounter with a large Bull Moose, find extensive tornado damage on Sunbeam Lake, and with the help of crisp clear October evenings, accomplish some of my best astrophotography to date.

    I remember being on Burnt Island when I was 5 or 6. Born in 54. Canvas tent. Cloth sleeping bag. Collmen gas stove. ate lots of fish. A float plane landed beside us to check on us. I love the shield. Your camera work is great!

    Perfection - this time of year in Mother Nature, exquisite beauty, the sounds, the peace, and your photography to convey it to us. I like your style - gentle, artistic, subtle use of music and light-hearted chat. The tornado damage was devastating, but left enough fire-wood for a few years!

    This is some of the best footage I've ran into. Great series! The close up on the moose was unreal. Can you share a little about your camera stabilizer. We have been looking for a gimbal solution for portages which might fit multiple different cameras.

    • @JasonIrwinTumblehome
      @JasonIrwinTumblehome  Год назад

      Yeah the new gimbals are great... a bit bulky maybe. The stabilization in the Moose shot was actually the stabilizer in the lens (70-200 f4 Canon) combined with some stabilization in post... turned out well for that short clip :-) The other shaky 30 seconds is on the cutting room floor :-). The stabilization in the new Go Pros is amazing too.

    that "crappy Algonquin Park". Yeah, there's multiple other places I would like to paddle, but I'm always settling on Algonquin. Been there more than a dozen times on vacation from Pennsylvania. All my best paddling memories were from Algonquin. Thanks for bringing me back. Your camera work is awesome! Had my Jeff's map out following along. "inlets along the way", those are the best trips. Did you go in the middle of the week? That stretch is usually crowded that time of year. That tornado damage shows what you need to prepare for. Nature is a mother.

    • @JasonIrwinTumblehome
      @JasonIrwinTumblehome  Год назад +1

      @@mcsarge I have a Hero 8 which gets used the most. It has a small Pedco tripod "Ultra Pod" as well. I recently cracked the backscreen however, so we'll see how long it lasts :-) My other camera is a Canon R6 which I use for video and stills. Lenses for that camera are 16-35 2.8, 70-200 4.0 and sometimes the 24-105 kit lens. If I need to pack lighter I'll sometimes opt for the smaller, lighter cheap primes vs the zooms... 50mm 2.0 and 16mm 2.8. I bring along a little trip pod as well. Sometimes I'll bring a Tascam digital audio recorder too. I have a small Rhodes mic for the R6 but it doesn't see much use.
